Five Years Wasted Now They Beg Her Back novel Chapter 257

"Take them away!"

At Elliot's command.

The special police shoved the Fenwicks, father and son, into a police car.

Elliot carefully placed Grace in the back seat of his SUV.

To make her more comfortable, he adjusted the seat's angle and put a cushion under her head.

Only after doing all this did he straighten up and let out a long, heavy breath.

Finally.

I got you out.

But this was far from over.

Elliot turned to face the entrance of the Fenwick's courtyard.

Two elderly figures stood there.

They looked particularly stooped under the flickering lights.

It was Grace's grandfather and grandmother.

They had been standing there the whole time.

From the moment the police stormed in and arrested the men, to Calder being dragged away, to Grace being carried out.

They saw everything.

But they didn't move.

They were like two outsiders, watching it all unfold with cold indifference.

Her grandfather was even still holding his pipe.

But his hand was shaking.

Shaking so badly that ash fell all over the ground.

Elliot looked at these two so-called "closest relatives."

The rage in his heart burned hotter than when he had faced Calder.

It was more disgusting.

Being hurt by a stranger is bad luck.

But being betrayed by your own family is a stab to the heart.

Grace had been through so much—rejected by her father, framed by her stepmother, abandoned by her husband.

She had finally escaped, seeking refuge with the only two relatives she had left in the world.

And what was the result?

They threw her right into a pit of fire.

Is this human nature?

Is this what they mean by 'blood is thicker than water'?

To hell with 'blood is thicker than water'!

Elliot strode toward them.

He stopped about six feet away.

"For your son, you pushed your own granddaughter into a pit of fire."

"You used her innocence, maybe even her entire life, in exchange for a little peace of mind in your old age."

"Mr. Hawke, can you sleep at night?"

"Your daughter is watching over you!"

The grandfather's face instantly turned deathly pale.

The pipe in his hand fell to the ground with a clatter, breaking in two.

"I... I had no choice..."

The old man finally broke down, tears streaming down his wrinkled face.

"We're so old. I can't get revenge anymore!"

"Grace is young... she can make a life anywhere..."

"That Calder might be a bit of an idiot, but his family is well-off..."

"Shut up!"

Elliot couldn't listen to another word.

Such self-righteous excuses were sickening.

"Well-off?"

"Do you have any idea that if I had been one step later tonight, your granddaughter would have been ruined!"

"She was a top medical researcher! Her hands were meant to hold a scalpel, not to bear children for an animal like that!"
