“Any program written by a human has a loophole.”
He felt as if he was back five years ago, when Grace was still running experiments and he was helping her debug the data.
Back then, he had told her, “Sis, I’ll protect your experiment data. No one will ever steal it.”
But later, he broke his promise.
He had personally handed her achievements over to Lilian Hart.
“This time… I won’t lose again!”
Dorian roared and slammed his hand down on the enter key.
*Clank!*
The blast door, which had been steadily descending, suddenly jammed just a foot from the ground.
A moment later, a piercing alarm blared from the system.
[System reset successful. Access granted.]
The blast door slowly began to rise.
“Nice work!” Felix couldn’t help but exclaim.
Without a word, Damien led his men and charged inside.
Inside the secret room.
The Butcher was holding a silver-haired elderly woman, a gun pressed to her temple.
Though the woman was bound and her face was bruised, her eyes were clear and showed no trace of fear.
“Stay back!”
Seeing the door open, a flicker of panic crossed the Butcher’s eyes. “One more step and I’ll kill this old hag!”
Damien halted, his own gun aimed steadily at the Butcher.
“You can try,” Damien said coldly. “Let’s see who’s faster. You or me.”
Just then, ignoring all attempts to stop her, Grace rushed in from behind.
“Grandma!”
Tears streamed down Grace’s face the moment she saw her grandmother being held hostage.
“Grace…” Her grandmother’s cloudy eyes welled with tears. “Don’t worry about me… Go… They’re after you…”
“Shut up!” The Butcher tightened his grip around the old woman’s neck. “Grace, hand over the key! I know you have it! Or… is it in your belly?”
The Butcher’s gaze shifted down to Grace’s slightly rounded abdomen, a venomous glint in his eyes.
“I’ve heard the ‘Dawn’ family passes the key down to the next generation. How about I cut you open and see for myself?”
Dorian yelled, pulled the pin, and threw it directly at the Butcher’s feet.
*BANG!*
An intense white light instantly filled the entire room.
The Butcher instinctively squeezed his eyes shut, his actions faltering for a split second.
*BANG!*
Damien pulled the trigger at almost the exact same moment.
The bullet precisely struck the Butcher’s gun-wielding wrist.
“Argh!” the Butcher screamed as the gun flew from his hand.
“Grandma!” Grace rushed forward without a second thought.
The Butcher’s wrist was injured, but with a savage look on his face, he used his other hand to pull a backup micro-pistol from his coat and aimed it at the approaching Grace.
“Go to hell!”
Damien had just fired and was readjusting his aim, unable to get another shot off in time.
Grace was holding her grandmother, her back to the Butcher, with no way to dodge…
