Five Years Wasted Now They Beg Her Back novel Chapter 472

The holidays were just a month away, but Graceline Technologies was still bustling with activity.

Grace was reviewing the year-end financial statements while Ivy Dawson sat on the sofa, mindlessly snacking on a bowl of almonds and complaining about the weirdo she'd met on a recent blind date.

"You have no idea. The guy actually asked if we could not hire a nanny after we get married. He said a nanny wouldn't be as nurturing, and I should raise the kids myself."

Ivy rolled her eyes. "So I asked him, 'Then can you stop breathing? You're polluting the environment.' Then I just grabbed my bag and left. There are so many obnoxious guys with inflated egos these days."

Grace couldn't help but laugh. "You and your sharp tongue. Be careful, or you'll never get married."

"I, for one, am destined to be a strong, independent woman. I'm not about to let love get in my way!"

Just as Ivy tossed a sunflower seed into her mouth, there was a knock on the office door.

The assistant's voice was hesitant. "Ms. Hart, that Ms. Shum is here again…"

Grace's smile vanished instantly.

Serena.

That woman just wouldn't give up.

After Grace had rejected her partnership proposal last time, she had stayed away for a while. It was unexpected to see her show up again before the holidays.

"Let her in."

Grace closed the folder, adjusted her posture, and slipped back into her cool, professional demeanor.

Ivy didn't leave. She sat on the sofa, nursing a cup of coffee, settled into a more comfortable position, and prepared to watch the show.

The door was pushed open.

Today, Serena was wearing a white cashmere coat over a long, pale purple dress. Her makeup was exquisite, and she looked every bit the part of a wealthy socialite.

"Ms. Hart, I hope I'm not interrupting?"

Serena walked in with a beaming smile.

Ivy walked up to Serena, took an exaggerated sniff, then wrinkled her nose in disgust and fanned the air in front of her.

"My, my, this office smelled fine just a moment ago. Where did this strange odor come from?"

Serena's face stiffened. "What are you trying to say?"

"What am I trying to say?" Ivy scoffed. "It's the smell of a two-faced snake! The stale, rotten kind that gives you a headache!"

"You!" Serena shot to her feet, pointing a finger at Ivy. "Who the hell do you think you are, talking to me like that!"

Ivy rolled her eyes. "And who the hell do you think you are?"

"You know perfectly well that Grace wants nothing to do with you, so why do you keep showing up? I don't get it. Are you some kind of leech? Once you latch on, you can't be peeled off?"

"And another thing," Ivy said, looking Serena up and down. "Aren't you cold, wearing so little in the middle of winter? Oh, sorry, I forgot. People like you have such thick skin, you probably don't feel a thing."

Serena was trembling with rage, looking as if she were about to explode with rage.
