“Don't say it, Ivy!” Grace's heart twisted in pain. “It's not your fault! They're the evil ones! You just wanted to love someone. There's nothing wrong with that!”
“Love?”
Ivy gave a self-deprecating laugh. “Love is disgusting.”
Those words made Grace's eyes well up.
Once upon a time, she had said the exact same thing.
Yes, love is disgusting.
“Let's go.”
Ivy took a deep breath and straightened her back. “The sooner we go, the sooner it's over. I'm a little tired.”
Grace didn't dare say anything more. She just held Ivy's hand tightly and led her out the door.
On the way to the police station, Ivy didn't say a word.
Grace tried to speak several times but didn't know what to say. Any words of comfort would seem pale and powerless now.
When the car stopped in front of the police station, Ivy's body trembled noticeably.
Grace immediately tightened her grip on her hand.
“I'll wait for you outside.”
The car came to a stop.
Elliot was already waiting at the entrance.
For a police officer, his expression was grimmer than anyone's.
“Grace, Miss Dawson.”
Elliot walked over quickly, his eyes full of sympathy as he looked at Ivy. “I'm sorry. The order came directly from the higher-ups. The people from the DA's office are here, so I… I can't interfere too much.”
“Elliot, she's been framed!” Grace said urgently. “She's the victim!”
“I know, I know all of it.”
Elliot sighed. “But the evidence they've found is very damaging to Miss Dawson. The company's account transactions were all under her operation records, and the surveillance footage from her office has been deleted. Unless there's proof she wasn't there at that time, then…”
Then it was an open-and-shut case.
But… procedure was procedure, and they had to follow it.
“What kind of rule is that?!” Grace became frantic. “Her mental state is very fragile right now. If…”
“Mrs. Clarke,” the officer said, trying to patiently persuade her, “please have faith in the system. Just wait a little longer.”
Felix also hurried over to help calm her down.
Grace took several deep breaths before she finally managed to compose herself.
Two people in suits came out of an interrogation room, glanced blankly at the dispute, and then beckoned to Ivy.
“Ivy.”
Ivy, standing at the doorway, looked back at Grace one last time.
“Ivy…”
Grace felt a lump form in her throat.
Ivy smiled, mouthed the words “Wait for me,” and then followed the two people into the interrogation room.
