Five Years Wasted Now They Beg Her Back novel Chapter 490

“Ivy! Open the door! Ivy! Don’t do this to me!”

Grace started slamming her fists against the door, her voice cracking with sobs. “Open the door! Ivy, open the damn door!”

Hearing the commotion, the elder Mrs. Clarke and Marianne rushed upstairs.

“What’s wrong? What’s happening?”

“The door’s locked! She locked it from the inside!” Grace turned, her eyes red as she screamed, “The key! Where’s the spare key?!”

“The butler has it! Quick! Call the butler!” Marianne was panicking now, too.

“There’s no time…”

Grace stared at the heavy, solid wood door, her mind racing with a thousand terrible possibilities.

She took two steps back, her expression hardening with grim resolve.

“Get back!”

Grace yelled at the others behind her, took a deep breath, and threw her entire weight against the door.

BAM!

A sharp pain shot through her shoulder, but the door didn’t budge.

“Ma’am! Let us!”

The butler came rushing up.

BAM!

BAM!

CRACK—

With the sharp sound of splintering wood, the door was finally forced open.

Grace was the first one inside.

But the scene before her made her collapse to the floor.

The room was dark, lit only by the eerie blue light of a laptop screen.

By that faint glow, Grace saw Ivy lying quietly on the rug.

Bright red liquid was flowing from her left wrist.

“IVY!!!”

Grace let out a piercing scream and scrambled toward her.

“Ivy… don’t scare me… please don’t scare me…”

Grace was sobbing so hard her whole body shook, tears streaming down her face. “You promised you’d be Gianna’s godmother, remember? You said you wanted to see the mountains and the sea! How could you break your promise…?”

The paramedics arrived within five minutes.

After applying first aid to stop the bleeding, they lifted Ivy onto a stretcher.

Grace instinctively moved to follow them out.

“Grace, wait.”

It was Marianne who spoke.

“Mom, I have to go…” Grace’s voice trembled, her teeth chattering. “She only has me…”

“I know, I know.” Marianne gripped her hand firmly. “But look at yourself right now.”

Grace looked down.

Her clothes and hands were stained with blood.

The elder Mrs. Clarke approached, leaning on her cane. “If you rush out of here covered in blood like that, what do you think tomorrow’s headlines will be?”
