"Felix!"
"Right here!"
Felix immediately pushed the door open and rushed in.
He moved so quickly that he stubbed his toe.
He winced in pain but kept his eyes fixed on Damien.
"Investigate every social connection Matthew Zayne has, especially who he's been in contact with these past few months. Also…" Damien's expression turned grim. "If Ethan has a lead, it means he's not clean in this industry either. Have someone look into his construction company."
Felix left to carry out his orders.
"You should go home." Damien stood up and fastened his cufflinks, his composure finally restored. "I still have some things to deal with."
"The press conference?" Grace asked.
"Yeah." Damien nodded. "Since this happened, we have to own it. The Clarke Group doesn't run from its responsibilities."
"I'll stay with you."
"No." Damien refused without a second thought. "The scene will be chaotic. There will be a lot of aggressive family members and reporters."
Grace was about to argue, but Damien placed his hands on her shoulders.
"Listen to me. Go home. Take care of Gianna."
Grace looked into his determined eyes and finally nodded.
***
At two in the afternoon.
The first-floor lobby of the Clarke Group tower had been converted into a temporary venue for the press conference.
Grace sat on her couch at home and turned on the television.
On the screen, Damien walked out with a solemn expression.
His team of executives followed behind him.
Damien stepped up to the microphone and offered a solemn, deep nod of apology, holding the silence for a long, heavy moment.
The room erupted at his words.
The untouchable Damien Clarke was actually bowing his head?
"The Clarke Group bears undeniable responsibility for the collapse at The Myriad Galleria project."
Damien straightened up, his voice steady and powerful.
"Regardless of the investigation's outcome, the Clarke Group promises to provide the highest standard of compensation to the families of all the deceased workers. All medical expenses for the injured will be fully covered by the Clarke Group until they have recovered. For the failure in project oversight, I, Damien Clarke, apologize to all of society."
