Five Years Wasted Now They Beg Her Back novel Chapter 52

Her older brother Cassian, Lucian, and her stepmother, Sabrina.

Lilian was there too, dressed in a long white dress, sitting beside Sabrina. When she saw Grace, she put on a worried and innocent expression.

The whole family was there, assembled and waiting.

But not a single one of them was wearing dark clothes suitable for a memorial.

Nor was there the slightest hint of grief or preparation for a visit to the cemetery.

There was no memorial.

This was clearly... a trial.

Grace's heart had already sunk the moment the lock clicked shut.

Now, it was completely frozen.

She was an idiot.

A complete, hopelessly naive idiot.

To think she'd actually believe this pack of wolves possessed even a shred of family feeling or humanity.

She slammed the daisies onto the polished floor.

The petals scattered like a shattered dream.

"What do you think you're doing?"

Cassian stood up, leisurely adjusting his cuffs as he looked down at her.

"Nothing. We just want you to stay home for a few days to cool off."

He laid his cards on the table.

"I've already spoken with Mr. Brooks. The wedding is set for the eighth of next month. The date has been chosen."

"Until you come to your senses, you'll be staying here."

Grace trembled with rage, her nails digging deep into her palms.

"This is false imprisonment! I'm calling the police!"

Cassian chuckled as if he'd just heard the world's greatest joke.

"Grace, the Hart family raised you for years. Now it's time for you to repay us."

He walked toward her, his tone laced with menace.

"I suggest you cooperate. Don't force me to use other means. That would be unpleasant for everyone."

Sabrina set down her teacup and chimed in, her voice dripping with sarcasm.

"Oh, calling the police? We're doing this for your own good."

The sharp sound of shattering ceramic echoed through the living room.

"I'm telling you, you're dreaming! I'll die before I marry that old bastard!"

"I'm calling the police! I'm calling them right now!"

Lucian shot to his feet, rushing toward her with a violent look on his face.

"You dare to smash things?!"

He raised his hand, ready to slap her.

Cassian stopped him just in time.

"Lucian, don't."

Lucian reluctantly lowered his hand, but he continued to curse at her.

"You ungrateful bitch!"

He pointed a finger at Grace's nose and sneered.

"The police? Go on, call them!"

"I'd love to see who they believe when they get here—our family handling a 'domestic issue,' or the ravings of a discredited academic with a 'record'!"
