Hearing this, a rare look of surprise crossed Damien's face.
Grace stood up abruptly.
"What did you say? How do you know?"
"Because... I've been keeping track of everything going on with you."
Cassian lowered his head, his voice raspy. "Grace, whether you believe me or not, ever since I found out the truth about Mom, I've... been living in agony every single day."
He truly was miserable.
He scoured the internet daily for any news about Grace, even the most trivial rumors.
"As you know, Serena Shum came to see me a while back."
Cassian took a deep breath. "She gave me a check and wanted me to help her."
"To be honest, I didn't refuse her just because you're my sister. Even though I'm down and out now, I would never sell my dignity. And..."
He paused, taking several deep breaths before continuing. "I've already made a mistake once; I refuse to make it again. After I told you about Serena that day, I went back and realized she had left her files on the table. And those documents mentioned Mr. K."
Grace remained silent, just listening quietly.
Sensing Grace's skepticism, Cassian let out a self-deprecating laugh.
"I know you don't believe me, but I have no reason to lie. I saw the news about Serena being arrested, and I knew things had blown up."
"I have a friend who used to be a hacker. I asked him to look into it for me."
"Normally, we wouldn't have found anything. Mr. K's firewalls are incredibly tough. But..."
Cassian glanced at Damien. "But we also had Lottie."
"Lottie?" Grace froze.
"Yes."
Cassian nodded. "Lottie is your twin sister. If this Dr. Serrano helped Lottie, then he must have some connection to the Grant family. Following that connection, and combining it with Mr. K's background, my friend managed to find a trail."
Despite his past flaws, Cassian's mind was as sharp as ever.
