When Cassian heard that, the first thing he thought was that maybe that princess was Abril’s mother. It seemed Maya had reached the same conclusion and said to him.

“Maybe she is your friend’s mother and that’s why she possesses the magic of light.”

“Yes, maybe it’s her.”

“Well, let’s go now, I’m eager to meet that special princess.”

“My horse is nearby, let’s go.”

As they walked, Maya asked.

“Will we travel by horse?”

“Only certain stretches, then we’ll use teleportation scrolls, I need to let my horse rest.‘

“And why didn’t you just use scrolls, that way the journey is faster.”

“But it’s also more exhausting.”

“Not for me.”

“I don’t think you’re a normal person.”

When they arrived at the stables where Cassian had left his horse, he gave a silver coin to the caretaker. After he handed it over, he patted his horse’s back and said.

“Let me introduce you, this is my horse Imperion.”

Cassian’s horse was completely white. When his injury got healed, he had sent someone to fetch it. When he had suffered the injury to his leg, he had been unable to ride it, but now that he was well again, he didn’t want to use another horse since it had been a gift from his father when he was old enough to ride. Maya found it beautiful, she stroked the horse’s muzzle and said.

“It’s a beautiful horse.”

They took a day to reach the city of Zather. Throughout the journey, Maya had complained about how tiring it was to travel that way since she had only traveled using magical scrolls. Upon arriving at Duchess Mollin’s mansion, Maya felt grateful to get off the horse’s back. Her legs were numb, and Cassian had to hold her so she wouldn’t fall. She leaned against his chest and said.

“I’m never traveling like that again, it’s awful.”

“Can you walk, or do you want me to carry you?”

“Just give me a few minutes for my legs to recover.”

“Take your time.”

The sun was setting, an orange light bathed the mansion. Maya stood admiring how beautiful the mansion was and said.

“Is this your house?”

“No, this is a noble’s mansion, I arranged to meet my brother here.”

“Have you figured out what you’re going to say?”

“Not yet.”

Maya wrapped her arms around Cassian’s neck and said.

“My offer to be your lover is still on the table, if you can’t think of anything, you can tell him

that.”

Abril appeared suddenly, and Cassian, upon seeing her, moved away from Maya.

“Hi Aby, I’m back.”

“When I heard you were back, I came right away.”

Abril looked at the young woman who had just been in Cassian’s arms and asked.

After dinner, Abril took the children and a maid guided Maya and Cassian to their rooms, which were next to each other. Before entering her room, Maya said goodbye to Cassian.

“Good night, prince charming, see you tomorrow.”

Before Maya closed the door, Cassian told her,

“Wait a moment.”

“Have you changed your mind and want us to share a room?”

The maid, who was still there, stared at them intently and then left. Cassian said to Maya,

“Don’t say things that could be misunderstood.”

“So what’s up?”

“What you told the children a while ago about your eyes, is it true?”

“Are you curious?”

‘Honestly, yes. You know, golden eyes are rare to see, but actually, I’ve never seen anyone with red eyes.*

“I suppose that’s not a very common color either.”

“So what you said, is it true? Were your eyes a gift from a fairy?”

“Maybe there’s some truth to what I said, but I’m tired now, so I’ll go rest. Another day I’ll satisfy your curiosity about me.”

Maya entered the room and closed the door, leaving Cassian more curious than before. The next day, Maya got up very early as she usually did. She went out to the balcony, wanting to feel the first rays of the sun caressing her skin. While enjoying the warm morning, she looked at Cassian, who was running in the garden, looking very active. She decided to approach him, stepping into his path, and asked,

“What are you running from?”

“I’m not running from anything.”

“Then why are you running as if you were?”

“I’m just getting in shape.”

“I’m not referring to that. Until very recently, I had an injury in my leg. I couldn’t stand for long and running was out of my reach. I couldn’t even walk fast without falling, but now that that’s no longer a problem, I want to do everything I couldn’t do before.”

“The princess healed you with her magic.”

Cassian squeezed his leg, remembering the pain he had felt for several years, the

helplessness of having to drag his leg while walking, and replied,

“That’s right, thanks to her I’ve regained my life. I’ve become the man I was before the injury.”

“I’m glad that’s the case and, especially because I like this version of you a lot.”

Cassian blushed. Maya approached and said to him,

“Your face has turned red, don’t tell me you’re embarrassed.”

Maya got even closer to Cassian. He stepped aside and said to her,

“Breakfast will be soon. I’d better go take a bath. I’ll see you later.”

Maya lingered a bit longer, appreciating the beautiful garden, then returned to the mansion. She met Abril, who was with the children, and they were heading to the dining room.

“Good morning, Maya. Did you sleep well?”

Alessandro had risen very early and met with his guards. One of them asked him,

They had been visiting the Forest of Lore because, for a few months, people from nearby villages had been disappearing, and all the clues pointed to one place: The Forest of Lore. However, they still hadn’t found anything; that forest was enormous, making it very difficult for them to discover what was happening there.

“We will return to the forest. I know the answers I am looking for are there, so prepare everything; we will depart as soon as possible.”

“Yes, Your Majesty.”

After they prepared everything, they set off for the Forest of Lore. That day, at the entrance of the forest, they saw a trail of blood, which they followed into the depths of the forest, leading them to a cave. Alessandro used his wind magic to determine the depth of the cave and what was inside. He could sense the presence of a strange creature within the cave; Alessandro didn’t know exactly what was in there; all he knew was that the presence was unlike anything known.

Alessandro drew his sword and asked the guards to light some torches to illuminate the interior of the cave, which seemed to be shrouded in a darkness as thick as ink, an unnatural

darkness.

Alessandro took one of the torches from a guard and said to them,

“Do not stray from me; there is something strange in this cave.’

The guards followed the king, and upon entering the cave, they all felt a chill run through their bodies. The cave was shallow, and they soon reached the end, where something stirred in the shadows. Alessandro moved a little closer, and upon seeing what it was, he was stunned; it was the same creature that had attacked Abril a few days ago.
