Gathering with the Nobles
When Alessandro woke up, he found himself alone. Abril had gotten up at some point without him noticing.
He looked around the room for her; she was on the balcony receiving the first rays of the sun, her auburn hair flowing in the breeze. She looked beautiful, and he stared at her intently. For a moment, he feared losing her, as if she were going to fly away off the balcony, leaving him behind, and that terrified him.
Abril returned to the room and, seeing that he was already awake, greeted him.
“Good morning, Lessan.”
“Good morning, Aby, how are you?”
“I’m fine, I just needed a good night’s sleep; I’m feeling totally refreshed.”
“Did you dream of your mother last night?”
Abril knew that every time she told Alessandro she had dreamed about her deceased mother, he would worry. She didn’t want to lie to him, but she thought it would be for the best; otherwise, he wouldn’t stop worrying.
“No, she doesn’t always visit me in my dreams; sometimes days go by without her appearing.”
Alessandro got out of bed, approached her, removed a small leaf from her hair that had flown over to her, showed it to her, and said,
“Have you been awake for long?”
“No, I woke up a little while ago, saw the sun rising, and wanted to watch the sunrise.”
“Why didn’t you wake me up?”
“Because you seemed tired. I know you were busy, so I didn’t want to disturb your precious sleep.”
“I used to sleep very little; for me, three hours of sleep does the trick.”
“Of course not, three hours is far from enough. If I only slept three hours, I would end up getting sick, so don’t do it; I don’t want to see you fall ill.”
“Don’t worry about that; your husband is full of life, I won’t fall ill.”

Adni sat on the erge of the bed and said to him,
* don’t do it I can’t bear losing you.”
Alessandro caressed Abril’s cheek, kissed her forehead, and said,
“That won’t happen, I’ll always be by your side.”
Alessandro stayed with Abril for a while, then had to get out of bed even though all he wanted was to hug Abril and stay like that with her for the rest of his life. But he knew that was impossible, as king, he had many duties to fulfill, and that day in particular, he couldn’t stay with Abril and escape from his work, as he had a meeting with the nobles. That day, he would be announcing that Cassian would soon be appointed as a duke.
Alessandro knew this would cause displeasure among the nobles, but Cassian seemed to have made a decision, and he wanted to respect it. Especially because it would be of great help, the war could start at any moment, and the last thing the kingdom needed was internal strife, causing it to fragment. They needed to be united to face what was coming.
He knew that with Cassian, who has fully recovered from his injury, many nobles who had formed factions before the war would rise again, as there were many nobles who hated him for not being a puppet they could manipulate. What they didn’t know was that his brother was even worse than him; Cassian never bowed to anyone.
Alessandro hugged Abril tightly, and she gave small taps on his arm to get his attention.
“Lessan, not so tight, I can’t breathe.”
“I’m sorry, I got carried away.”
