Unpleasant Memories
Abril sensed that Alessandro was very anxious, as if something was bothering him, so she
asked him.
“You seem really anxious. Is something wrong?”
“No, nothing.”
“Are you sure?”
“I just don’t want to leave you. I want to be by your side. Whenever I’m away from you, I feel
anxious.”
“I’ll be fine. You don’t have to be anxious.”
Alessandro caressed her cheek and said,
“I know that already, but it’s something I can’t help.”
Someone knocked on the door; it was Alessandro’s assistant.
“Your Majesty, there are many things for today.”
Alessandro sighed and said,
“I’ll be right there.”
He kissed Abril on the cheek and said,
“Duty calls, I must go.”
“Will you have lunch with me?”
“I don’t think it will be possible, but I’ll try.”
“I’ll be waiting for you.”
Alessandro changed and then left. His assistant was waiting by the door, and he bowed and greeted him.
“Good morning, Your Majesty. I apologize for coming so early, but there are many things for today, documents that need your approval, and the meeting with the nobles.”
“I know, today I have to meet with that pack of vultures.”
Alessandro started walking, and Gabriel followed a few steps behind and said,

“You shouldn’t speak that way about the nobles, Your Majesty. They would be offended if they heard you.”
“But it’s the truth. They are like vultures waiting to devour my flesh at the first slip. I want you to speed up the temple. I want the coronation ceremony to be done as soon as possible, and make sure to find a dance teacher for my wife.”
“A dance teacher?”
“Wait, a female teacher would be better. I think Lady Elizabeth would be perfect for it. Ask one of the servants to bring her.”
“Your Majesty, are you planning to bring the princess to the ball?”
“That’s right. She will be formally presented as my wife and my queen.”
Gabriel was very surprised by the king’s words, as just a few months ago he had shown disdain and indifference towards the princess.
Alessandro continued walking as he spoke.
“I also want you to start organizing everything for my wife to be crowned as my queen.”
Gabriel stopped again and asked,
“What? Crown the princess as queen?”
“Yes, do you have a problem with that?”
“No, but I don’t think the nobles will like it.”
“I don’t care. Abril is my wife and, therefore, my queen. Their opinions don’t matter to me.”
Alessandro continued walking, and Gabriel had to quicken his pace to catch up with the king.
“Your Majesty, are you completely sure about what you’re saying?”
“Yes, are you also against my wife taking her place on the throne beside me?”
“Of course not, but I’m not sure she’s prepared to be queen. So far, she has never been involved in anything. When she becomes queen, she will have to start being part of social circles and take on her duties as queen.”
“Don’t worry about that. When the time comes, she will be ready.”
Gabriel, seeing the confidence the king showed in the princess, couldn’t say anything more.
“I also want you to organize a meeting for this week with the generals.”

“War is imminent, isn’t it?”
This is not the best place to talk about that. There are many ears and eyes watching us.”
“I’m sorry, Your Majesty, I was imprudent.”
“Choose better places where you can ask delicate questions next time.”
“I will, Your Majesty.”
After Alessandro left, Abril called for the maids. After breakfast, they prepared her bath. When they were done, Abril was sitting in front of the vanity and they were combing her hair, one of the maids asked her,
“It’s a beautiful day today, Wouldn’t Your Majesty like to take a walk in the garden?”
Even if that maid hadn’t suggested it, that was precisely what she had planned to do, but upon hearing the maid’s suggestion, she couldn’t help but recall that the first time one of the maids had suggested taking a walk in the garden, she still had some marks on her body from the thorns that had pierced her body that day. Abril shuddered.
“Is something wrong, Your Majesty?”
“No, I just recalled something unpleasant.”
“Nothing like some fresh air to clear your head.”
“I suppose you’re right.”
After the maid finished styling Abril’s hair, Abril asked her to go get something for Koda to eat. After she left, Abril wrote a note and stepped out into the hallway, where another maid was present. She handed her the note and said,
“Could you please deliver this to Guard Noah?”
“Of course, Your Majesty.”
Abril returned to the room, and the maid who had been attending to her returned with Koda’s food. After he ate, they headed to the garden.
As they strolled through the garden, the maid insisted they visit the rose garden. Abril had bad memories of that place; she was reluctant, but the maid’s persistence eventually led her there. When they arrived at the rose garden, a blonde woman emerged from the rose bushes. Abril had only seen her once before, but she recognized her immediately as Victoria Vampel, the woman who had been Alessandro’s former fiancée.
Abril looked at the maid who had brought her there, and she avoided her gaze. Abril didn’t

want to be there, she stepped back, but Victoria said,
“Stop her.”
The maid seized Abril, stopping her from leaving.
“Where do you think you’re going?”
“I have nothing to do with you, tell her to let me go.”
“Of course, you have matters to attend to with me.”
Victoria approached Abril, lifted Abril’s face with the fan she held, and said,
“It seems it’s true that you’ve started to gain His Majesty’s favor.”
“If you don’t let me go, you’ll get into trouble.”
“Alessandro will always put me above you, and don’t think that a few days of Alessandro’s kindness can make you important to him. He and I were engaged for years; our ties are stronger than any you could ever have with him.”
“You don’t know anything about my relationship with Lessan.”
“Lessan, are you trying to sound close to him by using his nickname?”
“You can think whatever you want.”
