She’s the Enemy’s Daughter

Victoria became furious upon hearing the clear threats from that guard and said to him,
“I’ve known Alessandro for a long time. Do you really think he’ll punish me? You’re the one
who’ll be in trouble for being so insolent with me.”
“If that’s the case, I’ll accept the consequences.”
Abril stepped between Victoria and Noah and said,
“Noah isn’t rude; you’re the one who came to the palace deceiving and manipulating the servants to bring me here.”
Abril gathered her courage and said to her,
“In this place, you’re just an unwanted guest. I don’t know what your true intentions were in bringing me here, but let me tell you this: remember your place. I’m Alessandro’s wife, and although you were his fiancée in the past, that holds no value now.”
Abril turned around and said to Noah,
“Let’s go, Noah.”
Victoria was so upset by the princess’s words that she broke the fan she had in her hands and whispered with hatred,
“I’ll make you pay for this humiliation, you damned woman.”
After Abril disappeared among the rose bushes, Victoria turned to leave. The maid who had brought Abril there approached her, clinging to the skirt of her dress.
“Lady Victoria, what will become of me?”
“Do whatever you want. It doesn’t matter to me.”
“But I’ll be in trouble when the king finds out what I’ve done.”
Victoria brushed the maid’s hand away with a slap and replied,
“That’s not my problem.”

When they were far from that garden, Noah asked Abril again,
“Your Majesty, are you alright?”
She’s the Enemy’s Daughter
“Yes, thank you for coming to save me.”
“No, forgive me for not arriving sooner.”
“You got here just in time.”
“You did well to send me that note, although maybe you shouldn’t have followed that maid if you distrusted her.”
“I wasn’t sure if she was plotting something or not.”
“The palace had been cleaned, but it seems there were still some untrustworthy people left. But don’t worry, I’ll make sure this doesn’t happen again.”
“Do you think I’m naive?”
“Excuse me?”
“Do you think I’m naive for trusting that maid even when I had my doubts?*
“Not at all, I’d never think that of you, Your Majesty.”
Abril touched a white rose, caressed its petals, and said to him,
“I don’t like to expect the worst from people; on the contrary, I expect the best from them because I know how it feels to be judged by someone who doesn’t even know you, and I don’t want to do the same.”
Noah remembered that the princess hadn’t always been loved; she was the daughter of the enemy and was therefore forced to stay locked in a room and later to live away from everyone in a small cabin in the farthest part of the palace, a place where she was forgotten by everyone until a few months ago.
“I really don’t think you’re naive, Your Majesty; I think you’re a good person.”
“Thank you.”

Alessandro was meeting with the nobles, and since they had entered the room, they hadn’t stopped asking the same question over and over.
“When will Your Majesty have an heir?”
“I’ll have one when the time is right; there are more important matters to discuss now.”
Duke Alfonso Vampel responded,

“The matter of an heir is important, Your Majesty. You must not downplay who will be the
next heir to the throne, and as it seems it will be impossible for you to have children with the princess of the kingdom of Laios…”
Alessandro didn’t let the duke finish what he was saying.
“Duke Vampel, my wife is no longer the princess of the kingdom of Laios; she is now the queen of the kingdom of Cosset.”
The duke stood up, very upset and surprised at the same time, and said,
“Has she not yet been crowned queen?”
“And why do you think I prepared this meeting? Soon, my wife will be crowned as my queen.
“She is the daughter of the enemy, how can you give the queen’s throne to that woman.”
“It is true that she is the daughter of my enemy, but she is my wife and I expect you to address her with respect, Duke Vampel.”
Alessandro gave Duke Vampel a murderous look as if to say, keep quiet if you don’t want to lose your head.
Alfonso sat back down and said.
“I never intended to offend you, Your Majesty, I’m merely stating the obvious, the queen’s throne is not something to be taken lightly.”
“And I’m not taking it lightly, she will be crowned as my queen because I know she will be an excellent queen.”
“The whole kingdom hates her for who she is.”
“Well, they’d better change their opinion, as I will not allow anyone to disrespect my wife.”
Alessandro’s words were firm, and none of those present said anything more; everyone remained silent. Alessandro continued saying.
“I also called you here to inform you that my brother Cassian will take the title of duke, and the ceremony to receive the title will be soon.”
Upon hearing that Prince Cassian would be leaving the palace to assume a noble title, everyone began to murmur, and Gabriel silenced them.
“Silence, His Majesty has not finished speaking.”
Everyone fell silent again, and Alessandro continued speaking. When the meeting ended and
