The Keys to Hades

Sophia sighed heavily. She had thought of speaking secretly with Ethan and leaving Abril’s body, but everything had spiraled out of control.
“This is not the time for us to fight among ourselves. If Vritra is not stopped soon, darkness will
rise again over this world.”
“You said you knew what King Venobich was plotting. Tell us what you know.”
“That’s right, Vritra is part of an ancient lineage; darkness runs through his veins.”
Ethan couldn’t help but ask, “Why did you marry someone like that?”
“Vritra wasn’t bad when I met him. At that time, the darkness within him hadn’t awakened. I tried to help him, but when I became pregnant, I had to stop. I used all my power to hide my little one’s light. From the moment she was in my womb, I had to suppress her power to prevent Vritra from realizing she was a bearer of light. I planned to help Vritra when Abril was born, but by then, my power was depleted, and Vritra had already been consumed by darkness. In the end, I died without being able to save him.”
“Do you know how he plans to awaken the darkness, or if he has already done so?”
Alessandro asked, returning to the original topic. Dantriel answered his question.
“If the darkness had already awakened, I assure you, you would know.”
“That’s right, Vritra still hasn’t been able to awaken the darkness because he needs the keys to the gates of Hades.”
“The keys to Hades?”
“Darkness was sealed in Hades, or so the elven history books say.”
“If we get those keys, wouldn’t that prevent the darkness from awakening?”
“Yes, but no one knows where they are. To open the gates of Hades, two keys are needed. According to ancient books, those keys were hidden in two different places by the elves.”
Maya was very excited about what they were saying and suddenly remembered a story her father had told her when she was just a child. In that story, he mentioned the keys to the gates of Hades.
She said,
“Maybe I know where one of them is.”
Everyone turned their attention to Maya. She said,

“Although, maybe it’s nothing.”
Alessandro told her, “Speak.”
Maya replied somewhat nervously as everyone looked at her expectantly.

“When I was a child, my father used to tell me a story that mentioned the keys to Hades. Well, actually, it only mentioned one.”
“Did the story mention where that key was?”
“I think so, but I don’t remember that story very well. But I can go back home and ask my father.”
Cassian told her,
“You would do us a favor if you did that.”
After finalizing what they would do, Alessandro looked directly into Sophia’s eyes and said,
“If that was all you had to say, leave my wife’s body.”
Ethan objected,
“No, don’t do it, Sophia. Don’t leave yet.”
Alessandro stepped between them and with a murderous look said,
“Even though she is Abril’s mother, that body does not belong to her. Understand this, she is already dead, so don’t touch my wife’s body again, or I’ll make sure you re
Sophia understood Alessandro’s attitude perfectly, so she apologized.
“I’m sorry, it wasn’t my intention to cause problems.”
Sophia looked at Ethan and said,
“I only came to say goodbye. I thank you for everything you’ve done for me, and I release you from all ties, Ethan. Go home and be happy.”
Ethan was going to take her hand, but Sophia pulled it away.
“This is not my body. I can’t let you touch it.”
Sophia looked at Alessandro and said,
“Actually, she wouldn’t want anyone else to touch her either, as for Abril, you’re the only one she
trusts.”
After saying that, Sophia looked at Dantriel and said,

“I know you don’t owe me loyalty, but I want to ask you one last favor: keep my daughter’s
existence a secret.”
“For now, I will, but be aware that her father will find out about this eventually.”
“I know, but I’d rather it be later than sooner. Wait until she can defend herself, until the last seal is
broken. I ask no more of you.”
Dantriel nodded and gave a slight bow as he responded.
“I will do so, Your Majesty.”
Sophia stood in front of Alessandro and said to him.
“You’d better take care of my little one. If you make her suffer, I’ll come back and make you regret
it.”
“I don’t intend to make her suffer. I love her, and all I want is to make her happy. You won’t have to
come back, I assure you.”
“I hope so.”
Sophia gave Ethan one last smile and before fainting into Alessandro’s arms, she said.
“Goodbye, Ethan.”
Alessandro headed towards the door with his wife in his arms, and before russing the door, Ethan
said to him.
“Will I ever be able to talk to her?”
“I don’t think you have any business with my wife, so no, Sir Ethan. She’s not the person you’re looking for, so don’t try to use her as a substitute.”
After Alessandro left, Cassian thought it best for them to leave too. He took Maya’s hand and
excused himself.
“It would be better if we left too. I don’t think this is the best time to talk.”
Ethan was still affected by losing Sophia, he just wanted to be alone so he didn’t stop them; Dantriel simply responded.
“Yes, I think it’s best to leave it for tomorrow. There are still some questions I want to ask you.”
When Maya and Cassian left and they were alone, Dantriel said to him.

“Why are you apologizing?”
“For not helping you search for her back then.”
