Ethan stood by the window. Dantriel knew him very well and knew that when he remained silent for so long, it was because he was plotting something
“What are you thinking about, Ethan?”
“About Sophia.”
“I hope you’re not thinking of doing anything crazy; she wouldn’t want that.”
“I’ve been looking for her for more than 20 years. Do you really think I’ll just sit around and do nothing, just waiting for her to disappear?”
“That’s what she wants.”
“And what about what I want?”
“You can’t impose your will on others. She gave her life for her daughter. Do you think she would be happy if you destroyed her daughter’s life just to bring her back?”
Ethan didn’t respond; he continued to look at him in silence.
“Ethan, she came here to say goodbye to you because she knew you wouldn’t rest until you found
her and that sooner or later you’d find her daughter. Her soul is attached to her daughter not because she wants to live, but because she wants to protect her. So, get any idea of bringing
Sophia back out of your mind.”
“I love her.”
“If you truly love her, fulfill her last wish and take care of her daughter.”
Ethan sighed; he didn’t want to continue discussing that topic.
“What do you plan to do, Dantriel? Once you’ve obtained the information you want, will you return
to our kingdom?”
“It’s my duty to report what’s happening here, so I’ll return as soon as I can.”
“Do you really plan to participate in this war?”
“I’ve told you before, Ethan, this is a war that concerns us all. The darkness won’t stop in the human
realm; it will continue to expand and eventually consume everything, including the elven kingdom.
That’s why we must participate in this war.”
“You’ve offered yourself as an ally, but do you think the king will accept this alliance with humans?”
“If we want a chance to win this war, the alliance with humans is necessary.”
“Humans are not to be trusted.”

“I know, but we have no choice.”
“I want to go to the kingdom of Laios.”

“I want to confront the bastard who dared to deceive Sophia. I want to kill him with my own hands.”
“And
you will, but this isn’t the time to act impulsively. Ethan, I want you to come back with me and report to the queen what has happened.”
“Why?”
“Right from the start, this was your mission, not mine.”
“Alright, I’ll go back with you, but I assure you I’m going to kill that damn bastard.”
“I’ll help you do just that.”

As soon as they walked into the shop, they looked for a table. A waitress came over, and Maya noticed she was giving Cassian a hard look, like she had a grudge against him.
“What can I get for you, miss?”
“Cassian said the sweets here are delicious, so what do you recommend?”
“The apple pie is our specialty, would you like to try it?”
“Then an apple pie and something to drink, please.”
“I’ll get that for you right away.”
Dina left without taking Cassian’s order, and Maya said to him.
“I think the waitress doesn’t like you.”
“It seems so.”
Dina returned shortly after with Maya’s order and completely ignored Cassian. He had to call her several times to take his order, and in the end, she didn’t even bring what he had asked for. Maya
laughed and said to him.
“I think she really hates you.”
“I can’t think of anything I did to deserve that.”
“Maybe she had a crush on you, and seeing you with me, she wanted to take it out on you.”
Maya’s comment reminded Cassian that this girl was a friend of Laila’s. When they had visited the café, she had said they were on a date. Dina must have thought he was cheating on Laila with

Cassian thought, since between him and Laila there was only friendship, but for some reason, he also didn’t want Maya to misunderstand, so in the end, he decided to leave things as they were and talk to Laila later. As they ate, Maya seemed really happy, and Cassian realized he’d been staring at her for too long. She asked him.
“I know I’m pretty, but why are you looking at me so much today?”
“Sorry, did I make you uncomfortable?”
“It doesn’t bother me, I’m just curious to know what you’re thinking when you look at me so intently.”
“Honestly, I wasn’t thinking about anything in particular.”
Maya locked her gaze with his and with a half–smile said to him.
“You’re not very romantic; you should’ve said it’s because you don’t want me to go.”
Cassian reached out with a clean handkerchief and wiped the crumbs off her cheek, then replied.
“Maybe so.”

Alessandro stayed with Abril for the rest of the day, as he didn’t want to leave her alone at any moment. When night came, Alessandro fell asleep first. Abril couldn’t sleep, so she freed herself from his embrace very slowly to avoid waking him, got up from the bed carefully, and went to the balcony. That night there was no moon, and the garden was plunged into total silence and darkness. While she was looking intently at the garden, Abril noticed the figure of a man staring at her, sending a shiver down her spine. Frightened, she decided to go back inside her room.
Abril still felt as if she were being watched. She returned to bed, seeking refuge in Alessandro’s arms, and wondered who that man could be. That night, it took her a while to fall asleep. When she finally managed to enter the world of dreams, she found herself with her mother, standing in front of a lake and observing the agitated water.
“Mother.”
Sophia turned around when she heard Abril calling her and, while pointing at the lake, said,
“The waters are agitated; this is not good.”
Abril moved a little closer and asked,
“Mother, what do you mean by that?”
