“How am I here?”
“Yes.”

“It’s a long story.”
Cassian didn’t know how Maya had gotten there, but he was glad to see her. He hugged her tightly;
since he had been separated from her, his only wish and longing was to have her in his arms again.
“You can’t imagine how much I’ve missed you, how much I’ve dreamed of having you like this in my
arms. Tell me this isn’t a dream.”
Maya caressed Cassian’s head and replied.
“No, it’s not a dream. I’m here with you now, in your arms, and I’m real.”
Cassian took her face in his hands, gazed at her intently, then gave her a soft kiss on the lips and
said.
“I’m sorry, Maya. Forgive me for not coming to find you. I wanted to, but the war started and …”
Maya placed a finger on Cassian’s lips, and said,
“Don’t worry, I understand completely. I know you couldn’t come for me, and it would have been in
vain if you had.”
“What do you mean?”
Maya was about to respond when a handsome and good–looking man entered the tent, wearing
clothes very similar to Maya’s. When he saw them together, Fay frowned.
“Maya, what are you doing with this human?”
“Fay, I told you to wait outside.”
“You were taking too long, but now I see why.”
“Who is this guy?”
He asked, clearly puzzled. Maya ignored his question and turned to Fay.
“Fay, wait for me outside, I’ll be there soon.”
Fay left the tent a bit annoyed and said,
“Don’t take long, don’t forget why we’re here.”
“I won’t.”
When they were alone again, Cassian asked.

Dream or a Nightmare
“Who was that guy, and what did he mean by what he said?”

Maya wished she could lie, but she couldn’t anymore. The words came out of her mouth without being able to stop them.
“He’s Faylion, one of the fairy princes. He’s my fiance.”
Cassian was left speechless. What had been a dream just moments ago had become a terrible nightmare. He could finally reunite with the woman he loved, but she hadn’t returned alone from the land of the fairies; she had returned with a fiancé.
“Tell me you’re joking. That man can’t be your fiance, that can’t be, it must be a lie, right?”
Maya clenched her hands into fists, feeling powerless for not being able to deny it.
“I can’t lie, Cassian. I’m obliged to always tell the truth. Even if I wanted to tell you that it’s not true, that Fay is just a friend, it would be a lie, and I can’t tell lies anymore.”
Those words broke Cassian’s heart. He wondered what had happened to Maya during the months they were apart that led her to become engaged to another man.
