The Fairy Queen’s Wish

Cassian’s face darkened. He felt hurt; he hadn’t stopped thinking about her for a single moment
since they had parted, but it seemed she had forgotten about him.
“Did you forget me in the short time we weren’t together?”
“Has it been a short time for you? Lucky you.”
“What do you mean by that?”
“As you know, time passes differently in the fairy realm. What has been a short time for you has
been years for me.”
“What do you mean?”
“After you all left, the queen took away the medallion the elves had given me. For a long time, I waited for you to come look for me. I knew I couldn’t leave with you anyway, but still, I longed to see you once more, to taste your kisses, to feel your warmth while you embraced me.”
“And because I didn’t come, did you find comfort in someone else’s arms?”
“Things aren’t what you think.”
“Then explain it to me, because I don’t understand anything.”
“I knew Fay would come to the human world. I’m not allowed to leave the fairy realm, but I wanted to see you, so I agreed to an engagement with him to be able to accompany him and see you.”
“And did you really think it would make me happy to see you knowing you’re engaged to another
man?”
“I knew you wouldn’t like it, but that was the only way the queen would let me come; besides, I never said I was going to marry him. I can break off the engagement at any time.”
“So you’re just pretending to be engaged?”
“Fairies can’t lie, so everything has to be real. My engagement is real, but I don’t intend to marry
Fay; he already has someone.”
Cassian felt he could breathe again. He hugged her and said,
“I’m sorry, I couldn’t help but feel jealous when I heard that man was your fiancé.”
Maya returned the hug and replied,
“I realized that. It really offends me that you though I forgot about you, because I didn’t. During all this time we were apart, there wasn’t a single day I didn’t think of you.”
“I’m a complete i***t, right?”

“Yes, you are, but don’t worry, I knew that when I fell in love with you.”
Cassian pulled back a little and pressed his lips to Maya’s. Their kiss became deeper, full of intensity, of contained desire. Maya responded in the same way, as she kissed him, she ran her fingers through his hair, over his shoulders, and down his back. She wanted to feel him, for her hands to remind her of the familiar intimacy. She had longed to be with Cassian in that way so much that for a moment she forgot why she was there.
Fay re–entered, cleared his throat to get their attention, and said,
“We don’t have time for this. Save your time with your human lover for later.”
Cassian felt little sympathy for that fairy, even though he knew he had helped Maya reunite with
him.
“I’m coming, Fay.”
“Okay, but don’t take long.”
Fay left the tent again, Cassian asked,
“Why have you come, Maya?”
“The queen has sent us here to forge an alliance.”
“An alliance? I thought she didn’t want to participate in this war.”
Clairm
“She changed her mind when they attacked the fairy land. Actually, we are also at war; we are also fighting against those monsters born from darkness.”
“But why is King Venobich fighting against the fairy and?”
“The king’s daughter is leading an army of monsters. She believed the fairy queen had one of the keys to the gates of Hades and tried to make a deal to obtain it, but the queen didn’t have it. The queen told her so, but the daughter didn’t believe her and began attacking us a few weeks ago. Those monsters are nearly impossible to kill; we desperately need weapons to fight them.”
“You need enchanted weapons.”
“That’s right, Fay is in charge of the negotiations, and I accompanied him.”
“The enchanted weapons come from the elves; you will have to speak with them.”
“I know, but the queen wants to form alliances not just with the elves, but also with the humans.”
“Why?”
“When the queen found out about Abril, she became interested in her.”
“What? Did you tell her about her?”

“She asked questions, I can’t lie, I had to answer all her questions.”
“You could have omitted it.”
A shadow of concern crossed Maya’s face, and she replied.

“It’s not as easy as you think. Even when I tried to lie, I ended up blurting out the truth. No matter how much I resist, the words spill out uncontrollably. It’s horrible.”
“I’m sorry, I didn’t…”
“I know you had no way of knowing.”
Fay peeked into the tent again, and before he said anything, she said goodbye to Cassian.
“I have work to do. I’ll see you later.”
Cassian grabbed Maya’s hand, preventing her from eaving. When he saw her walk away, he felt he wouldn’t see her again. She seemed to notice his anxiety, placed her hand on his arm and said,
“I’m not leaving, at least not yet. I’ll be back in a while.”
“I’d better accompany you.”
“That would be nice.”
Maya said as she looked at Fay, who nodded. Maya entwined her arm with Cassian’s and said,
“Then let’s go.”
As they exited the tent, many soldiers turned to look at them. Some recognized Maya and, seeing her with Cassian, were happy for him. Others couldn’t take their eyes off Maya’s fairy companion; he exuded an otherworldly aura that made him seem anything but human. He had white hair and red eyes, his skin was pale, and he was slender, his appearance was beautiful but strange.
Cassian guided them to the elves‘ tent.
“May I come in?”
Dantriel came out of the tent and was very surprised to see Maya and the other fairy
accompanying her there.
“What are you doing here?”
Fay replied.
“I am Faylion, representative of the fairy queen. I have come as a messenger and request an audience in your presence.”
“Come in.”
Upon entering the tent, Fay handed a letter to Dantrel. After reading it, he said,

“So you are also being attacked.”
“Yes, the queen is furious, she wants to destroy the human king who dared to defile her lands.”
“Why have you come here and not gone directly to my kingdom?”
“It is what my queen asked of me. I only fulfill her wishes.”

“What your queen desires is not something I can give her at this moment. The blessing of light is something only a member of the elven royal family can give.”
“That’s not true. In this camp, you have what my queen desires, a member of the elven royal family, a princess to be more exact.”
Dantriel looked at Maya, she lowered her head, feeling guilty for having revealed such an important
secret as the existence of Abril, and apologized.
“I’m sorry, I couldn’t help but reveal it.”
Dantriel sighed. He knew that all fairies were compelled to tell the truth; the queen must have
made her speak.
“I think you’re confusing me with someone else, I’m not the one who can help you with that.”
“That’s not entirely true, she is half elf princess and half human queen, and as far as I know, that’s something the elf queen doesn’t know.”
Cassian spoke instead of Dantriel.
“Is that a threat?”
“No, I’m stating the situation. My queen wants the princess to come to the fairy land to receive her
blessing.”
“And why not go directly to the elf queen and ask for weapons to fight the monsters? Why does it have to be Abril who goes?”
“Fairies can’t use weapons made of iron, it makes us weak, and a weak warrior is a useless warrior, a walking corpse on the battlefield.”
“That’s not true, Maya can use weapons made of iron.”
“May I remind you that fairies cannot lie. Maya can use weapons made of iron because she is mixed–blood, half–human, half–fairy; we need our weapons blessed and, as Dantriel already knows, the elf royalty never leaves their lands. They won’t come to our aid. That’s why it has to be your
princess who has to go.”
“And if we refuse?”
“In that case, we will use any method to get what we want, no matter how vile and underhanded
