A Silly Fairy
When Abril found out Maya was at the camp, she ran over and, upon seeing her, threw herself into
a hug, exclaiming,
“What a joy to see you!”
Maya returned the hug and said,
“Aby.”
“I thought I would never see you again.”
“To be honest, I thought the same, I believed I’d never see you all again.”
“What are you doing here?”
Before Maya could respond, Ethan shouted angrily,
“They are here to take you. That woman is a traitor. She has told the fairy queen everything about who you are and what you can do. Stay away from her.
Abril stepped away from Maya in surprise.
Maya’s expression darkened, and she loathed herself for betraying them.
“Abril, I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to betray you but…”
“You probably didn’t have a choice, right?”
“I really didn’t want to reveal your secrets to the fairy queen, but I couldn’t help it. I can’t lie, I tried to hide it, but she is too clever, she can’t be deceived.
Abril took Maya’s hands and said,
“I believe you, Maya, after all, you can’t lie, right?“>
“That’s right.”
“Then I have no reason to doubt you.”
Maya hugged her and said,
“Thank you so much for believing me, for trusting me.”
“You are my friend and I know you wouldn’t do anything to hurt me.”
Ethan pulled Abril away from Maya and said,
“She just wants to use you, can’t you see? It’s true fairies can’t lie, but they can bend the truth.”
Fay was starting to get annoyed with Ethan’s attitude and replied,

“Fairies with a long life learn to do it, but Maya is just a child and new to the whole, not being able to lie about things. She doesn’t know how to disguise the truth, so stop talking nonsense, you
know she’s not lying.
“You can’t say the same about yourself, you do know how to disguise the truth, nothing that comes
out of your mouth is true.”
“Elf, this doesn’t concern you, so why don’t you shut your mouth and stop interfering?”
Ethan felt an urge to punch Fay. He was about to jump on him but Dantriel stopped him and said,
“Calm down Ethan, this is not something you should interfere in, the decision to help them or not is
Abril’s.”
Dantriel arrived early that morning to find them. He hadn’t had time to explain anything so he just mentioned Maya and Abril’s proposed departure. Alessandro had followed her and didn’t wait for him to say anything either. Alessandro spoke,
“Can you explain what this is all about?”
“They have come to take her.”
Ethan shouted, very agitated.
Alessandro’s face darkened, he didn’t know if what Ethan was saying was true or false, but what he was sure of was that no one would take his wife.
“I don’t care why they’ve come, but no one will take Abril.”
“It’s not like you have options, king of humans, you’re obliged to cooperate with us.”
Alessandro drew his sword and said,
“If you lay a hand on my wife, you won’t live to tell the tale.”
Abril stepped between Alessandro and Fay.
“Calm down, Lessan, let’s hear them out first before making any decisions, please.”
Alessandro sheathed his sword and said,
“Okay, but I won’t let anyone separate you from me
Abril turned to Fay.
“Can you tell us what you want?”
“My desires don’t matter; it’s my queen’s desires. We are being attacked right now by an army of monsters born from darkness, and our weapons are useless against them.”
“Are you looking for blessed weapons?”

“We don’t need weapons; we need your blessing. The elven royalty don’t leave their kingdom, so they won’t help us. But you are different; they don’t know about you yet. You can come to fairyland and bless our weapons.”
Alessandro stepped between Fay and Abril, reaching for his sword as he said,
“She won’t go anywhere with you.”
“You’re not in a position to refuse. If you don’t help us…”
A loud explosion echoed in the distance, followed by the roar of thousands of monsters. Alessandro cursed.
“Damn it, it had to happen now.”
“What’s going on?”
“We’re under attack; I have to go.”
Alessandro kissed her forehead and said,
“I’ll be back soon.”
Alessandro shot Fay a murderous look and said,
“Stay away from my wife. If you harm her, I’ll kill you!”
Cassian quickly donned his armor as Maya approached him and said,
“Let me come with you.”
“I’m heading to the battlefield; it’s too dangerous. You should stay here.”
“No, I’m coming too. You know I’m an excellent warrior; let me help you.”
Cassian leaned in, his forehead touching Maya’s, and said,
“No, it’s like hell out there. I don’t want you in a place like that; I couldn’t forgive myself if anything
happened to you.”
“I feel the same way. I don’t want anything to happen to you. Let me come with you and watch your
back; let me protect you while I can.”
“But…”
Maya kissed him, silencing him, and said,
“I won’t take no for an answer. If you don’t let me come now, I’ll follow you later. I’ll find you on the
battlefield, no matter what.”
“You’re so stubborn.”

“But that’s what you love about me, right?”
Cassian kissed her and replied,
“Yes, that’s one of the reasons I fell in love with you, though right now I wish you weren’t.”
“You’d better give me a weapon, and let’s go before we’re left behind.”
Seeing Maya leaving with Cassian, Fay said to her,
“Maya, you shouldn’t go.”
“If I don’t listen to the man I love, why would I listen to you?”
Fay sighed heavily and said,
“Just don’t die out there. I’d be in serious trouble with the queen if I don’t take you back in one
piece.”
“Don’t worry, I don’t plan on dying here.”

Maya left with Cassian. Dantriel almost dragged Ethan out. Ethan was complaining that he didn’t
want to leave, that he wanted to stay to protect Abril. He was cursing Fay and also threatening
him, saying he would kill him if he dared to take her away.
When everyone left the tent and only the two of them remained, Abril asked Fay.
“Hey, if I help the queen out, could she let Maya go?
“Do you want to negotiate with her?”
“Yeah.”
Fay scratched his head and replied.
“Honestly, I don’t think she’ll go for that.”
“Why not?”
“Because Maya has caught the queen’s attention, she’s her favorite, she won’t let her go.”
“Then she’s not getting my help.”
“You’re not in a position to negotiate.”
“Neither is she.”
Abril replied, then left the tent and headed to the entrance of the barrier. All the soldiers were prepared. Among the crowd, in the front row, Abril saw Alessandro and in front of him, behind the
barrier, a horde of ink–black monsters of all shapes and sizes clawing at the barrier.
Abril lifted her gaze to the sky and prayed to God to take care of her husband and her friends, that

As she watched them, she said.
