Maya, seeing that Cassian and Dantriel seemed about to attack Fay, intervened, saying,
“Our intention is not to fight; we just want your assistance.”
“Well, that’s not what this guy’s been saying,” replied Cassian, shooting daggers at Fay.
Maya jabbed Fay in the ribs, making him wince.
“Ouch, that hurts.”
“Apologize, Fay.”
“Why should I apologize?”
“For being so arrogant even though we are the ones who need help.”
Fay turned his face to the side. Fairies were very arrogant and proud. Although it was true they needed help, he did not intend to retract his words. He knew they wouldn’t release their light
bearer without a fight and that without threats, they wouldn’t achieve anything.
“I don’t intend to.”
“Fay.”
“Maya, even if you know them, remember whom you serve.”
Claim
Maya couldn’t forget it even if she wanted to. She sighed heavily and apologized on Fay’s behalf.
“I’m sorry, he’s not very polite.”
“Fairies aren’t known for their manners,” responded Dantriel.
Maya tried to do something to calm the mood; otherwise, she would end up returning with Fay’s lifeless body.
“I truly regret the hostility Fay has shown, but we need help, and Abril is the only one who can give it
to us.”
Maya bowed her head as a sign of humility and said,
“Please lend us your help.”
Cassian spoke first.
“That decision is not in our hands; it must be Abril who decides what to do.”
Fay opened his mouth again.
“Actually, she has no choice; they must help us even if they don’t want to.”

Maya wanted to shut Fay up for good; he was only making things worse. Cassian ignored his
comment and said to Maya, who still had her head bowed,
“It would be better to discuss this tomorrow morning when Abril and Alessandro are present.”
Cassian extended his hand to Maya.
“Let’s rest; today we can’t do anything more. Abril wasn’t feeling well, so you won’t be able to talk
to her even if you demand it.”
Maya looked at Fay, and he responded,
“I suppose there’s no other option. Do what you want; I’ll crash somewhere else.”
Maya took Cassian’s hand, and they both left Dantriel’s tent and headed to Cassian’s tent. Upon
entering, Maya felt compelled to apologize once more.
“I’m sorry.”
“You have nothing to apologize for.”
“Even so, I…”
Cassian took Maya’s face in his hands and said to her,
“None of this is your fault, Maya, so don’t blame yourself. You must be tired. Let’s rest.”
“Alright.”
They both laid down on the small bed in the tent.
“I thought, being a prince, you’d have a bigger bed.”
“The one with the big bed is my brother; I’m a prince without privileges, remember?”
“That’s true, I had forgotten, now you’re a duke.”
“Yes, but honestly, I prefer it small so we can be closer.”
Cassian pressed his hard and firm body against her back. Feeling his warmth and gentle breathing made her wish the moment would never end, but it also made her feel guilty. Maya felt as if she were betraying everyone by having spoken about April, but she couldn’t help but talk about her. The queen summoned her daily for tea and to discuss her life. At one point, she asked how she met the human prince. She told the story of how she met Cassian and tried not to talk about Abril, omitting some things, but the queen was very perceptive and realized she wasn’t telling everything. The queen forced her to tell the whole story without omissions. The magic that bound her compelled her to reveal everything, even against her will.
The queen showed great interest when Maya mentioned Abril and her abilities. When they were attacked and the queen saw they couldn’t win, she sent Fay to find Abril. Upon learning this, Maya

did whatever it took to be allowed to accompany Fay. At first, the queen was reluctant, but when
she committed to Fay, she agreed to let her go, but not before ordering her to return. Maya felt her
words like chains, knowing that even if she wished to, she couldn’t stay.
She turned to face Cassian, spent a moment contemplating his face, and then said,
“Even though I had wished with all my heart, I never thought we’d be together like this again.”
Cassian gently stroked her hair as if he were touching a delicate object and feared breaking it.
“I don’t plan to let you go again; it would drive me crazy.”
“Let’s not talk about that now. We parted so abruptly; I just want to enjoy this moment.”
“Are you going to leave?”
Maya wanted to tell him no, that she would stay with him, but, as always, the truth slipped out.
“Yes, I must return to the land of the fairies. It’s an order from the queen, and her orders are like shackles that drag me back. Even though I hate it, I must do what she desires.”
“There must be a way for her to let you go. I’ll give her whatever she asks; I’ll do anything to win back your freedom.”
“I doubt she’ll let me go.”
“The fairy queen loves exchanges; I’m sure I’ll find something that catches her attention.”
“I suppose we could try.”
Maya replied as she nestled in his arms, unsure if she would ever regain her freedom, but she wanted to believe she would, that she would once again be free to be with her beloved.
That night, Maya slept peacefully in Cassian’s arms and the next morning, when she woke up, the first thing she saw was Cassian’s sleeping face. She was happier being with him like that than she
had been in a long time.
Cassian woke up, hugged her tightly, and breathed in the scent of her neck. He said,
“Good morning.”
“Good morning.”
Fay entered the tent without knocking, and upon seeing them still in bed, said,
“Are you planning to stay in bed all day?”
They both got up, speaking in unison,
“Don’t you know how to knock?”
“Don’t you know how to get up early?”

“Apparently, fairies don’t have any manners.”
Cassian said, while giving him a murderous look.
“You’re such a nuisance, Fay.”
“Don’t waste time. Remember why we’re here and stop playing with your human lover.”
Claim
Ethan entered the tent without knocking, just like Fay, looking furious, though it wasn’t clear if he was angry with Cassian or Fay, as he looked at both of them as if he wanted to kill them.
Cassian growled.
“Seriously! Doesn’t anyone know how to knock before entering?”
“Sophia isn’t going anywhere.”
“Sophia?”
“Abril, she isn’t going anywhere.”
Ethan shouted as he corrected himself.
Alessandro and Abril entered along with Dantriel, in the same way Fay and Ethan had. Cassian felt
invaded; it seemed like no one knew how to knock before entering.
