From a distance, Abril spotted a tall, grand marble building that rose magnificently among the hills. As they got closer, she could see small colorful houses. It was a breathtaking view, full of beautiful flowers.

Maya shouted.

“We’ve arrived, we must descend.”

They landed in a small meadow next to a stream, where there were several fairies. Some had green or blue skin, some didn’t appear human, but others did, although all had a certain enchanting beauty. They approached with fruits, flowers, and some branches with colorful leaves. Abril thought all those things were being offered to them, but soon realized they were for the winged horses.

The fairies passed by them, casting disdainful glances. Abril wondered why those fairies seemed to hate them or if it was just her imagination.

Maya seemed to decipher her expression and said,

“The winged horses are really loved and cherished by the fairies and that’s why they have come to greet them. Humans, on the other hand, are not very welcome here.”

“I’ve noticed that.”

Fay began to walk towards the palace and said,

“Follow me, we must greet the queen.”

Abril had heard a lot about the queen, so much that she was curious to know what she was like.

Fay led them to the marble palace, and the guards stationed at the doors let them pass without asking questions.

Further ahead, they encountered a young fairy, short in stature, with smoky–gray hair and gray eyes. She bowed before Abril and said,

“Hello, I am Narim, welcome to the land of the fairies, Queen of the Humans, Princess of the Elves. Follow me, I will guide you to where the fairy queen s.”

The young fairy walked ahead of them, guiding them to a spacious room with a glass dome that let the sun pour in. The place was decorated with vines and beautiful flowers.

This was the queen’s throne room, and the place brought back bad memories for Cassian.

The queen was sitting on her throne. To Abril, she appeared as a woman of ethereal beauty, yet with a cold demeanor.

Everyone except Abril bowed before the fairy queen.

‘So she also shows her dignity as a queen,‘ thought the fairy queen as she watched her.

But that couldn’t be further from the truth. Abril was not accustomed to bowing to anyone, not only because of her royal status, but also due to her unfamiliarity with such customs. That was the real reason she hadn’t bowed before the fairy queen.

The fairy queen began to speak.

“I’m glad you’ve finally arrived. I’ve been waiting for you for a long time, elf princess, Abril Venobich, or should I call you queen of the humans?”

“You can call me by my name, there’s no need to use any title.”

“Alright.”

The fairy queen stood up and approached Abril to get a better look at her. After examining her closely with her gaze, she said.

“Your resemblance to your mother is admirable.”

“Did you know her?”

“Yes, she used to visit me from time to time. It’s a shame she fell in love with a human; that led to her troubles.”

Abril wanted to refute what the fairy queen was saying, but she couldn’t, because deep down she knew it was true.

“I don’t like to mince words, so I’ll be direct: bless the weapons of my soldiers, I have a war to win.”

“Since you’re direct, I will be too. I will bless your weapons, but you must give me something in return.”

“That seems fair. What do you want?”

“I want you to free Maya.”

The fairy queen turned her gaze to Maya. When their eyes met, Maya knew what the queen’s answer would be.

“No.”

Cassian and Abril were very surprised by the queen’s response, but Maya didn’t seem surprised, although deep down she had hoped for a positive answer.

“You can ask for anything else within my reach, except Maya.”

Cassian said, clearly agitated.

“Why not?!”

“I have my reasons.”

Cassian took out the key to the gate of Hades that the fairy queen had given him before and said

to her.

“If what you want is your key, it will be returned to you, but free Maya.”

The queen, upon seeing that Cassian had the key to the gate of Hades, frowned. She looked truly

upset and said in a grave tone.

“You are a complete fool. How could you think of bringing that key back to my land?”

“This key was in your possession, now I’m returning it to you, so give freedom to the woman I love.”

“No, she will not go anywhere, and you should leave the way you came along with that key.”

The queen began to use her magic to open a portal and ordered the guards who were there.

“Take this foolish human out of my land.”

Abril blocked their way and said,

“Enough! We came to help, and this is how you treat us?”

“The key that this foolish human prince carries is something very dangerous. It is precisely what the person who started a war against my race has been looking for. Excuse me if my treatment is

not the most cordial, but he must leave.”

Cassian responded.

“I’m not leaving here without Maya.”

“That won’t happen, she is a fairy and must live as such.”

Maya drew a small dagger from her belt and shouted.

“Enough.”

The guards stood in front of the queen to protect her. The queen stared at her and asked, very irritated,

“What do you think you’re doing, Maya? Lower that dagger.”

Maya put the dagger to her neck and said,

“If I can’t be free to live as I wish, with the person I love, then I’d rather die.”

Cassian was frightened by what Maya was doing and said to her.

“Maya, drop that dagger. I don’t want you to hurt yourself. We’ll find a way to…”

“There’s no other way, Cassian. She will never let me go and, after being with you again, I realized I can’t live without you anymore, so…”

“Maya, lower that dagger.”

The queen ordered firmly, and those words were like chains that compelled Maya to obey her will. She threw the dagger aside and fell to her knees, clutching her chest firmly, appearing to be in pain.

Cassian ran to her side, took her in his arms, and yelled furiously at the queen.

“What have you done to her?!”

“I just made her come to her senses. Guards, take her to her room.”

Cassian held onto Maya to stop them from taking her away. He tried to use his magic, but it was useless; just like the first time he had been in that place, his magic was gone.

When one of the guards tried to touch Maya, silver lames suddenly surrounded Maya and Cassian.

Abril could still use her magic. She shouted loudly, drawing the queen’s attention, who seemed perplexed.

“Leave them alone. I don’t think I was clear before, so I’ll repeat it once more: free Maya and let Cassian be, if you don’t want to face another enemy”

“Are you threatening me?”

“No, I’m merely laying out the terms. You choose what you want.”

“You don’t know who you’re dealing with.”

Abril raised her head high and responded.

“I say the same. Even though we are in your kingdom at this moment, you seem to have forgotten that we are part of the royal family, and you’ve forgotten that it’s you who needs our help, not the other way around.”

The queen’s face turned red with anger, like a boiling pot. Abril, on the other hand, stood firm and confident.

“I can’t hand over the girl.”

“Then I can’t offer you my help.”
