The queen was furious. Maya, her recently recovered descendant who resembled her long–deceased daughter, was about to be lost again. She played the last card she had left.

“If you refuse to help me, the elf queen will learn of your existence. I will personally ensure she knows, and I assure you that when that happens, you will no longer be able to live among humans.”

Abril responded without any fear or hesitation.

“Then do it, I don’t care.”

“Don’t you love your human husband? Does it really not matter to you to have to separate from him?”

“Of course not, but I don’t intend to let anything or anyone separate me from the man I love, even if it leads me to war.”

“You’re being foolish.”

“Yes, and I have already stated my demands: Maya’s freedom or our help. What will you choose?”

The queen had nothing left to negotiate with and was running out of time. Her magic was depleting, and she wouldn’t be able to delay the war much longer. The only thing she could do was to accept Abril’s demands.

“Alright, I’ll free her, but only if that’s what she truly wants, and it will be after we have won the war against your sister.”

“How can I be sure you will keep your word?”

“I always keep my promises.”

“Free her before.”

“No, I’ll do it afterward; otherwise, how can I be sure you will help me?”

Abril didn’t know how to respond. The queen smiled and said to herhim,

“It’s obvious that neither of us trusts the other, but unlike you, I cannot lie. If I say I will keep my word, it’s because I will, but I can’t say the same about you, so we’ll do it my way.”

Abril exchanged glances with Cassian and Maya and both nodded.

“Alright, then it will be done your way. We will help you, and in return, you will give Maya her freedom back.”

“I give you my word, I will free Maya after this war ends, as long as she wishes it, but I don’t want the prince in my kingdom; he must leave.”

walk away.

“Fay, take Abril to the armory and have her bless out weapons.”

Ordered the queen before leaving the throne room.

Abril approached Maya, who was still on the ground looking tired.

“Are you alright?”

“Don’t worry, I’m fine.”

Cassian remained holding Maya and said to her.

“Don’t ever try to harm yourself again.”

Maya placed her hand over Cassian’s and said,

“I’m sorry, I didn’t think very well about what I was doing.”

“Maya, I love you, and even if we couldn’t be together, I could bear it if I knew you were alright, but a world without you, that I couldn’t bear. Our lives are intertwined, so next time think very carefully

about what you’ll do.”

“I will.”

Fay approached them and addressed Abril first.

“We must go to the armory. Maya, you should go rest. You don’t look well.”

Cassian spoke.

“Abril should rest a bit before…”

“That won’t be possible. The queen has already given her order, and as you know, the demands

made are something she wouldn’t have given so easily.”

“You don’t have to worry about me, Cassian, I’m fine, I’m full of energy, so don’t worry. You take care of Maya, I’ll come find you when everything is over.”

“But, I promised my brother I would take care of you. How could I let you go alone?”

Ethan said to him.

“She won’t go alone, we will accompany her.”

Cassian didn’t trust the elves much, but even though Maya said she was fine, her face showed otherwise. He had no choice but to accept that the elves would protect her.

Fay began to walk ahead, with Abril, Ethan, and Dan riel following him. After they left, Narim approached Cassian and said,

“Maya needs to rest. The queen’s orders, given with such force, affect not only our bodies but also our souls. The firmer the order, the worse it is for the recipient.”

Maya seemed barely conscious, Cassian took May in his arms and said to Narim,

“Enough talking. Start your work, we have no more me to waste”

Abril stood in the center of the room, closed her eyes, and began to spread her magic like a torrent throughout the room. The weapons started to glow slightly. Abril blessed each weapon. Unlike when she blessed Alessandro’s armor, this time she wasn’t tired at all. The magic flowed freely through her body. She smiled at Ethan and said,

“See? Doing something like this is no longer a problem for me. I’m strong now.”
