Blooms in the Sky
The next day, when Alessandro woke up, the first thing he did was make sure Abril was by his side, but he didn’t find her. He became anxious and wondered if it had all been a dream brought on by
his longing to see her again.
He clutched the sheets of his bed and whispered his beloved’s name, convinced that nothing that
had happened was real.
“Aby.”
Abril, who had been on the balcony, peeked into the room upon hearing her name and greeted him
with a smile.
“Good morning, Lessan.”
Alessandro was surprised to see Abril. He stumbled to his feet and headed towards her. When
they were face to face, he reached out his hand to touch her but hesitated at the last moment.
“What’s wrong, Lessan?”
“Are you really here? Is this not a dream?”
“I’m here. How long will you keep saying the same thing?”
“I’m afraid that if I touch you, you’ll disappear.”
Abril took Alessandro’s hand, placed it on her face, and replied.
“See, I’m not going to disappear. I’m real, and we’ll be together. I don’t intend to leave you again.”
Alessandro hugged her and responded.
“I don’t intend to leave you again either. I won’t let you go.”
“I don’t want to go anywhere without you either.”
“It’s still early; you should be resting. Remember, you’re now a pregnant woman, and the mornings are still a bit chilly.”
“I know, that’s why I put on a shawl.”
Alessandro scooped her up in his arms, carried her back to the room, gently laid her on the bed, and said.
“Even so, I think you should stay in bed. We were a bit too enthusiastic yesterday. Should I call the doctor just to check that everything’s alright?”
Abril stopped Alessandro before he left.

“I’m fine, Lessan, and our daughter is too.”
“Our daughter?”
“Yes, I’m sure our baby is a girl.”

Alessandro was so happy that he was speechless. The idea of having a daughter who resembled Abril overwhelmed him with emotion. But Abril took that silence as a negative response, and she
asked.
“Doesn’t it make you happy that it’s a girl? I suppose you would have preferred it to be a boy!”
In the kingdom of Laios, the gender of the heir to the throne didn’t matter, only their abilities, but in the kingdom of Cosset, it was different. There, the heir was always a boy, never in the kingdom’s
history had it been a girl.
Alessandro took his wife’s hand and replied.
“Of course not, the mere idea of having a daughter who looks like you fills me with emotion and
leaves me speechless, so don’t doubt for a moment that I am not happy that our baby is a girl”
Abril laughed and said to him.
“Honestly, I don’t think she’ll look much like me, although she will inherit the color of my eyes.
“You can’t know that, she hasn’t been born yet.”
Abril caressed her belly and replied.
