Before leaving, Alessandro asked Sirius to take care of Abril, to protect her, and bring her back safe and sound. He told the same thing to Taren; he was leaving his most precious treasure in their hands.

Alessandro gave his wife a long kiss. He would have wanted to accompany her to the door, say goodbye to her until the very last moment, but that would only attract attention–something they didn’t want, since

Abril’s trip was a secret.

The last words before Abril left Alessandro’s office were, “Take care of Lissana and keep her close. We

don’t know what might lurk in the shadows.”

Upon leaving, they headed to the entrance. Abril had the hood of her cloak on even though it was hot–she didn’t want anyone to see her leaving or realize that she wouldn’t be in the palace.

At the entrance was the carriage that Sirius had arrived in, which took them to the outskirts of the city. Sirius asked it to drop them off on the way and to return to the tower of the wizards. Once alone, Taren

asked, “How will we continue our journey without transportation?”

Sirius took out some bracelets from his bag. He handed one to Abril and another to Taren.

“We will use this.”

“We’ll use a bracelet? Tell me this is a joke!”

“It’s not a joke.”

Taren analyzed the bracelet skeptically and said, “You should have brought a teleportation scroll at least.”

“This is better than any scroll. These bracelets will allow us to teleport more easily. Although they are used personally, each one will have to use their own teleportation artifact, which is an advantage in case of

problems.”

Abril put on the bracelet and asked, “What do you mean by that?”

“We are going to the enemy kingdom. They could attack us. If that happens, escaping will be our top priority. Only the ones carrying the scrolls can use them. It would be dangerous if we separate. With the bracelets, even if we separate, we will be able to escape.”

Taren stared at the bracelet on her wrist and asked, “And how do they work?”

“You just have to press the jewel in the center twice.”

“What if we press it by mistake?”

“Um… Try not to do it.”

Taren was still a little skeptical of the artifact that Sirius had given them.

hair stands out a lot, so change it and try to cover your face with the hood. We don’t want anyone to

recognize you.”

Abril changed the vibrant red color of her hair to a honey blonde and replied, “I don’t think anyone can recognize my face. I was just a princess in name, always locked away in the farthest part of the main palace. The only ones who could recognize my face are my brothers, the maid who brought me food from time to time, and the guards who brought me here the day of my wedding.”

“That’s good, then we don’t have to be so cautious. We need to be close to each other to appear in the

same place.”

Taren approached and said, “I just hope we arrive safely at our destination.”

“Stop complaining, everything will be fine. On the count of three.”

Everyone placed their hands on the magic artifact and pressed it twice. In the blink of an eye, they arrived

at the outskirts of the kingdom of Laios. The golden towers of the immense palace shone in the distance.

Taren walked away and started vomiting, feeling as if his stomach had turned completely upside down.

Abril and Sirius were fine. Taren looked at Sirius as if he wanted to kill him with his gaze. Abril approached,

took his hand, infused her magic into him, and asked, “Are you okay?”

“I’m fine now.”

He threw a furious look at Sirius and said, “We better use a teleportation scroll. I’m not going to use that

damn artifact again.”

“You complain about nothing.”

Abril asked Sirius, “Are you okay?”

“Yes, perfectly.”

Abril stood watching the kingdom of Laios from a distance and said, “I never thought I’d come back to

Laios.”

Sirius asked her, “Do you hate this place?”

“I don’t have any good memories of this place, but I don’t know if I hate it or if it unsettles me. Let’s hurry up and fulfill our mission so we can go back home.”

Seeing that they were still quite far away, Taren said, “Her Majesty is right. We have a long way to go, so

let’s keep going.”

Sirius started walking and said to them, “We’ll stop at the first village and get a carriage to continue. It’s not far away, so we won’t have to walk too much.”

They walked for half a day. When they arrived at the first village, Abril was surprised to see that all the land was contaminated. What had previously seemed to be a rice field had become barren land where not even

weeds grew.

Taren said, “I thought the kingdom of Laios was very prosperous.”

Sirius replied, “It was until a few months ago. One of the mages in my tower has family in Laios, and when he came, he passed through these fields, and it wasn’t like this. I remember clearly because he kept saying that the rice from these fields was the best.”

Abril approached the field, took a handful of soil, and felt a darkness emanating from it.

Sick–looking villagers approached them and asked if they came from the city and if things were better

there.

Abril responded, “We don’t come from the city, but could you tell us what has happened here?”

An elderly man, barely standing with a cane, answered, “A few months ago, there was a big earthquake. A black miasma covered the rice fields, withered everything, and polluted the water. If you’re just passing by, it’s best to leave immediately. Many of us are sick.”

Abril couldn’t leave that place without helping those people. Even though she didn’t live in Laios, she was still a Venobich. She took his hand, infused a small amount of magic into him so he wouldn’t realize she had done it, and said, “Don’t worry about us. We are healers. Let us help you in any way we can.“–

The elderly man felt great relief and said, “Thank you very much. We will be immensely grateful if you help

us.”
