The next day, Abril woke up first. Upon seeing Alessandro’s sleeping face, she nestled on his chest,
wishing to stay a little longer before leaving, wishing she didn’t have to separate from her beloved or from
their daughter. But she couldn’t. She couldn’t ignore the whole world when perhaps she was the only one
who could save it.
When Alessandro woke up, he caressed her head and said, “Good morning, my love.”
Abril sat up and replied with a smile to hide the sadness of her departure that she held in her heart.
“Good morning.”
Seeing that the sun had not yet fully risen, Alessandro said to her, “It’s still early. You should sleep a little
more.”
Abril shook her head and replied, “I want to leave as soon as possible.”
Alessandro’s lips touched her forehead as he wrapped his arms around her. “Please take care and don’t do anything reckless. Think of me and Lissana, okay?”
“You’ll always be in my thoughts at all times.”
Abril got up, took a blue tunic from her wardrobe, black pants, and matching boots. While she changed,
Alessandro stayed watching her and asked, “And those clothes?”
“I want to be able to move easily if necessary. Dresses are uncomfortable and impractical.”
“You’re right about that.”
Abril tied her hair into a bun, small unruly strands sticking out on the sides. Even though she dressed simply, she still looked beautiful. “I’ll go say goodbye to Lissana. Are you coming?”
“Of course, just give me a minute.”
Alessandro stood up and put on the first thing he found in the wardrobe. After washing their faces, they both headed to Lissana’s room.

Abril opened the door very slowly, trying not to make any noise so as not to wake the baby, but she was already awake. The nanny was carrying and rocking her around the room, trying to put her to sleep. When he saw that the queen and king had entered, he turned towards them and bowed.
“Good morning, Your Majesties.”
Lissana, upon seeing her mother, stretched out her arms towards her to be held. Abril took her daughter and told the servant to wait outside the room.
Once alone, Abril spoke to Alessandro, “Take good care of Lissana in my absence.”

“Of course, I will take good care of our daughter.”

Lissana stared at her mother with her beautiful golden eyes, clinging to her mother’s clothes as if she
knew she was leaving. Abril looked at her tenderly, kissed her on the cheek, and said, “My little one, Mom
will be back soon.”
The little girl started crying as if her tears were asking her to stay. This broke Abril’s heart, so she used her magic to put her to sleep, as she couldn’t bear to be separated from her if she heard her crying. She
placed her in the crib and told Alessandro, “I know you’re always busy, but try to spend more time with
Lissana.”
“Don’t worry, I will. I’ll take advantage of Cassian being here.”
“We should leave and let her sleep,” said Abril as she covered her daughter with a blanket.
“Yes.”

Then they went to Maya’s room. Abril knocked on the door and waited for it to be opened or for an
invitation to enter.
Maya opened the door and gestured for them to be quiet, as Cassian was still sleeping. She left the room
and closed the door very slowly to avoid making noise.
“I came to see how you were doing. I’m glad to see that you’re well.”
Maya still didn’t feel completely well, but she felt well enough to get up. She wanted to be honest with Abril, but Alessandro was standing next to her. In the end, Maya had to lie, even though she didn’t want to
do it.
“Yes, I’m fine.”
Although Maya said she was fine, Abril could see the shadows under her eyes and the lack of color in her skin. She took Maya’s hand and infused her magic into her without Alessandro noticing, which Maya
thanked her for.
“Thank you very much, Aby.”
“I’m here to say goodbye. I’ll be away for a few days.”
“Good luck on your journey.”
“Thank you very much, I’ll need it.”
Alessandro saw one of the servants passing by, so he excused himself for a moment to ask the servant to prepare a bag with food. Abril took the opportunity to talk to Maya.
“Yesterday I remembered that in the kingdom of Laios, there is a book that talks about fairies. I thought it was just fiction, but I don’t know, maybe it can help you with something, so I’ll bring it for you.”

Maya hugged her and said, “Thank you very much, Aby.”
“I promised to help you, and I will.”
“I don’t know how to thank you for your help. You always save me.”

“You’re my first friend. I do it willingly, so don’t think that you have to thank me, because it’s not necessary.”

When Alessandro returned, they both headed to his office. Sirius and Taren were already there, ready to leave. Abril thanked them for their availability.
“Thank you both for coming so soon. I count on you for this journey.”
Both nodded. Alessandro took out several bags of gold coins, handed one to Sirius, another to Taren, and the last bag to Abril. It was bigger and heavier than the others, and when she received it, she said, “Don’t you think this is too much? I’m only going for three days.”
“I know, but even if it’s only three days, I hope it’s enough for you and that you don’t lack anything.” Someone knocked on the door, interrupting their conversation. Alessandro immediately let them in. It was the servant they had encountered in the hallway, carrying a bag in one hand and brown loaks in the other. Alessandro took Abril’s cloak and helped her put it on. Abril said to him, “I see you’ve thought of everything. Thank you very much.”
“I wish you a good trip and a quick return.”
Abril kissed him and said, “Until soon, my love.”
