The Elven Queen was taking a walk in the garden when one of her servants informed her that Dantriel was requesting an audience.

“Tell him to come. I will receive him here.”

The servant bowed and left, returning a few minutes later with Dantriel. He knelt before the Fairy Queen. Although she was older, she still had a young appearance. Her short blond hair, reaching her shoulders, framed her face. Her pointed ears slightly stood out, and her golden eyes had an intense gaze that

intimidated even the fiercest warrior.

Without lifting his face, Dantriel began to speak.

“Long live Her Majesty, the Queen.”

“What do you want, Dantriel?”

“Your Majesty, please reconsider Ethan’s punishment.”

“I have nothing to reconsider. If he wants to leave the place where he is, he just has to tell me what I want

to know.”

“Your Majesty, he has already told you everything he knows.”

“That’s not true. His story is full of half–truths, and if you don’t want to end up like Ethan, locked up in a

dungeon for a lifetime, it’s better that you stop interceding for him–unless you want to complete the

unfinished story that Ethan told me.”

The Queen approached Dantriel, who was still kneeling before her. She forced him to look at her, locking

her golden eyes with his, and said, “Tell me what happened to my sister, and I will set Ethan free.”

Dantriel had promised to keep Abril’s existence a secret. He could not break his word, even when it was

the Queen who asked.

“My story is the same as Ethan’s, Your Majesty.”

“You lie, just like him.”

The Queen said as she turned around.

“You better leave before I forget that you are my best general and lock you up with your friend.”

Dantriel stood up, bowed, and left before the Queen could change her mind.

Dantriel headed to the dungeons where Ethan was being held. Ethan was in a corner of the cell, sitting on the floor with his back against the wall. The guard announced that he had a visitor, but Ethan didn’t lift his

face until he heard Dantriel’s voice.

“You’re ignoring me.”

“What are you doing here?”

Dantriel turned to the quard. “Leave us alone.”

“I can’t do that, it’s the Queen’s orders.”

“I won’t let him escape. Please, leave us alone for a moment.”

The guard hesitated but eventually accepted Dantriel’s request and left them alone. Dantriel approached the cell a little closer and continued speaking.

“I’m worried about you, Ethan. You’re my friend, and I don’t want to see you die.”

“The Queen won’t kill me.”

“She’s getting impatient. If you don’t give her what she wants, she’ll torture you until you talk or until you

die.”

“Did she send you to scare me?”

“No. Once again, I tried to intercede for you.”

“It doesn’t matter, Dantriel. Honestly, I think I prefer this. I have nothing to live for. Without Sofia, this world

has no meaning to me.”

“She didn’t want to hear you say that.”

“You know nothing!”

“I know because she was my friend too. Her death hurts me just like it hurts you, but it would hurt me even more to see my friend die for something that will come to light sooner or later. Let me tell you, she won’t rest until she learns the true story behind Sofia’s death. Ethan, talk to the Queen.”

“What will happen to Sofia’s daughter if I reveal the whole story to her?”

“She’s her aunt. I don’t think she’ll harm her.”

“She’s a half–blood. You know what her fate would be if the Queen discovers her existence. I can’t do it. I

promised Sofia.”

“So, you’re waiting to die so you can break your promise?”

“Of course not.”

“In my opinion, that’s what you’re doing.”

Dantriel had a turmoil of emotions inside. On one hand, he wanted to fulfill the promise he had made, but

on the other, he wanted to save his friend.

“Ethan, if you don’t speak up, I will. So you choose.”

Dantriel started walking away and said, “I hope you choose wisely, Ethan.”

Maya was waiting for Cassian to wake up when the little fairy suddenly appeared and said to her, “Even if you have improved, it won’t last forever. It’s only temporary.”

“Go away, little pixie. Cassian could wake up at any moment, and I don’t want him to hear you.”

“I have been thinking that if I can’t convince you, maybe I will make your human lover do it for me.”

Maya caught the little fairy in her hand, applied some pressure, and with a deadly look, asked her, “Do you

want to die? Because if that’s the case, I can kill you right now.”

“It was a joke. I won’t say anything.”

“You better hope so. I can tolerate you annoying me all the time, but don’t you dare do it with Cassian, or I

won’t be responsible for my actions.”

“You’re crushing me! You could let me go.”

Maya hesitated for a moment, unsure whether to let go of the pixie or not. With tears in her eyes, the fairy pleaded, “Please don’t kill me! I won’t say anything to your human lover. I’m too young to die.”

Maya released the little fairy and said to her, “Go away. I don’t want to see you.”

The pixie didn’t think twice before disappearing. Maya approached the bed and lay down beside Cassian. She wanted to feel his warmth and calm her anxious heart. He woke up feeling her next to him. He hugged

her and said, “Good morning, Maya. How are you feeling?”

She returned the hug, buried her face in his chest, and said to him, “Very well, happy to be in your arms.”

Cassian didn’t know if what Maya was saying was real or not. He wished to believe that it was true, that

she was fine, and that his concerns had been exaggerated.

“I am even happier to see that you are recovered, that you will be fine.”
