Part II: The Right Decision
Sirius, Taren, and Abril rode until they reached the forest near the village. They camped in the thickest part of the forest. After lighting a fire, Taren ventured further into the forest to hunt something for dinner since Abril had given all their provisions to the villagers.
Once Taren left, Sirius started writing a letter. When he finished writing it, he magically turned it into a bird that flew up into the sky. Abril approached and asked him, “What are you doing?”
“I sent a report to your husband. He made me promise to send him a report about our journey every day; otherwise, he wouldn’t be at ease.”
“But is it safe for you to do that? Someone else could read your letter.”
“It’s a magical letter. Only His Majesty the King can read it.”
“Well, you could have let me write something.”
“Do you miss them already?”
“Yes, it’s only been a day, but when you’re separated from your loved ones, time seems to pass differently, too slow and torturous.”
“If we hadn’t lingered in that village, we would be in the royal capital of Laios by now.”
“If I hadn’t helped them, many would have died today, and within two days, none would have been left.”
“You can’t help everyone on this journey, Abril.”
“Have you ever been sick and begged for help, even when you knew that no one would come to your aid?”
“No.”
“Well, I have. At this moment, I am a queen. Everyone respects me and bows before me. But it hasn’t always been this way. In this kingdom, I was forgotten in an abandoned palace. Every day, I begged the heavens to let me live. I begged for someone to come when I was sick and starving, but no one came. Although my prayers were heard, I am still alive.”
Abril looked at her hands and said, “Those people were in the same situation I was in back then. With this power, I can save many, and I want to do it. I want to help those who have been abandoned to their fate
and suffer in oblivion.”
“I’m sorry, I spoke without knowing your reasons.”
“Sirius, I know I said this would be a short trip, maximum three days, but I don’t want to rush my arrival to the royal capital. According to the elder we met, it’s not just them who have been suffering; there are many other nearby villages in the same situation. So, I would like to visit each of them and save those people, help them in any way I can.”
“If we do that, it will take days to reach the royal capital of Laios.”

“I know, and that’s why I’m asking you to continue accompanying me on this journey that has just begun, and I don’t know when it will end.”
Sirius scratched his head, took a deep sigh, and replied, “Alessandro won’t like this.”
“I know, and it’s not like I like it either, but I can’t ignore all those people because of my selfishness.”
“Okay, I will continue to accompany you. I will be with you until you decide to return, and I believe the same goes for Taren. He will follow you wherever you go until we return to the kingdom of Cosset and the king tells him otherwise.”
“I’m glad to hear that.”
“If we do what you want, this journey will no longer be a secret.”
“I also want you to help me with that.”
“Well, when the time comes, I’ll figure out what to do.”
Taren came back with two rabbits, raised them high to show them, and said, “It was difficult for me to
catch them, but here is our dinner.”
He handed them to Sirius and said, “I caught them, now you cook them.”
Sirius used his magic to clean the rabbits and put them to roast by the campfire. Taren, upon seeing that, said, “I still don’t understand why you can do so many things with your magic.”
“I use spells instead of my mana; that’s why I can do more things than a simple magic possessor who uses an element by nature.”
“That means that if I learn your spells, I will be able to use magic like you.”
“No, magic bearers usually don’t know how to handle mana.”
“But I can learn, I would like to learn how to do what you did a moment ago.”
“I’ve already told you it’s not like that.”
“And who says so?”
“You know what, think whatever you want.”
Sirius approached the campfire and sat on the ground, making sure the food wouldn’t burn.
Abril said to Taren, “Maybe our journey will be longer. I want to visit the other villages nearby and help if
necessary.”
“I will follow Her Majesty wherever she goes.”
“Thank you very much, Taren.”
That night, after dinner, Abril fell asleep by the fire to keep warm, as even though it was summer, the nights were still very cold.

Taren and Sirius took turns sleeping to ensure that the fire did not go out or that they were not attacked by
any beast while they slept.
The next day, they continued their journey, stopping at the nearest village, which was in the same state as the previous one. The land and its inhabitants were sick and contaminated by darkness.
Upon seeing them, Abril’s heart squeezed in her chest, because compared to the previous village, many had ended up dying there. At that precise moment, she realized that her decision was the right one. She would help everyone she could so that they would not end up the same way.
