Forgotten Wife Let the traitors kneel Down (by Patricia Maradiaga) novel Chapter 244

Part II: Stories that hide the truth

When Cassian woke up, he heard Maya talking to someone. He searched for the person she was talking to, but she was alone. There was no one else in the room apart from the two of them.

He got up from the couch, picked up his clothes from the floor, and after putting on his pants, he asked her, Who were you talking to?

Maya turned around and replied, With my brother.

Cassian looked around the room again, making sure they were alone. He asked again because he thought

he had heard wrong, With who?

Maya laughed, showed him a necklace she was wearing with a red stone in the center, and said, With my brother. This necklace allows me to communicate with him even when we are far away. The fairy queen

gave it to me some time ago so that I could stay in touch with my family.

Maya got even closer to Cassian, wrapped her arms around his neck, and said, I asked him to come. He

said he’ll be here at noon.

That’s great.”

I’m hungry; shall we have breakfast?

Sure.

Maya let go of her arms and started to walk away when Cassian took her hand and asked her, Are you

alright?

With a big smile, Maya replied, Better than ever.

As Cassian finished dressing, they were heading to the dining room when they saw two guards dragging

one of the maids down the hallway while she begged for mercy.

Your Majesty, please forgive me! Have mercy on me!

Maya and Cassian turned to look and asked at the same time, What was that?!

Maya looked at the maid again and recognized her. Cassian, that maid is one of those responsible for taking care of Lissana.”

Are you sure?

Yes.

Cassian hurried to Alessandro’s room. He entered without knocking on the door. Seeing his brother trying to calm Lissana, who wouldn’t stop crying, he got scared and asked him, Lessan, what happened? Is Lissana okay?

Yes, she just got a little scared because of the servant’s screams.”

Maya extended her arms and said to him, May I help you?

Of course.

Maya took the baby, and she calmed down quickly. Alessandro asked her, How did you calm her down?

I just held her. I don’t know why, but she really likes being with me. We saw that they took a servant away forcefully; what happened?

She stopped feeding Lissana to try to seduce me. She left her in her crib, completely ignoring her in an attempt to manipulate me. She will receive her punishment, so let’s stop talking about it, otherwise, I’ll end up doing something too violent in front of Lissana.

Maya thought it would be best to change the subject since she had just calmed down Lissana, and Alessandro seemed too angry. I’ve been in touch with my brother; he will come at noon today.

Alessandro had a terrible night, and his morning had started even worse. But what Maya told him made

his day better. Thank you so much.”

Can I ask what you want from my brother?

I need him to find something for me, although I’m not even sure if it’s real.

And what is it?

Magical mirrors with which you can see and talk to another person, no matter the distance between

them.

Maya had never heard of something like that, but the function it performed reminded her of the pendants the fairy queen had given her. Maya showed him her necklace and said, It’s not a mirror, but this necklace does the same thing. My brother has the other one; I can talk to him no matter the distance between us. I used it many times when I was in the fairy realm, although as far as I know, they can only be used by fairies, or at least that’s what the fairy queen told me. But I don’t know if she said that just to prevent Cassian from having it. She wanted me to break all ties with him.

Do you mind if I borrow it for a moment?

Of course.

Maya took off the pendant and handed it to Alessandro. After examining it closely, he said, The design of this necklace resembles the mirrors I saw in a book a long time ago.”

That means it must have been made by fairies, because if you look closely, it’s made of ivory. Although I’m not sure what type of gemstone the jewel is, even though it looks like a ruby, my brother told me it

wasn’t.”

That’s true.

Alessandro smiled and said, Then it’s most likely real.”

In which book did you read about these mirrors?

Cassian vaguely recalled something about the mirrors Alessandro was talking about. He replied, From our mother’s storybook.

Alessandro said, Recently, I started reading those stories to Lissana. I discovered that many of those stories weren’t just fantasy; they were stories about fairies, elves, and monsters hiding in the darkness.

Cassian remembered all those stories and realized his brother was right. And something else bothered

him even more: the fact that the book his brother was talking about had been written by their mother.

Lessan, does that mean Mother knew that fairies, elves, and the monsters born from darkness were real?

What do you mean? Mother only read that book; she had no way of knowing that all those stories were

real.

Lessan, our mother wrote that

That can’t be true!

When I was a child, I became obsessed with that book. I wanted to meet the author, to know who had written those amazing stories. So, I started researching about the author. One day, Mother approached me and told me to stop looking for the author, that they had always been in front of me, that she was the one

who had written it for us.

Maya was just as surprised as Alessandro. She said, Who exactly was your mother?

Actually, I don’t know.

Alessandro, upon hearing what his brother was saying, remembered something his mother had told him a long time ago: My little Lessan, remember that all stories always have some truth to them, no matter how fantastic or crazy they may be.

It seemed that Mother hid many secrets and wasn’t who we thought she was.

Abril had fallen asleep by the window. She woke up to the sound of whispering voices.

As she opened her eyes, she saw that almost all of the villagers were awake and trying to speak softly so as not to wake those who were still sleeping.

Sirius approached her and said, Everyone seems to be fine, but there’s something you should see.”

Abril got up and followed him. As she saw him starting to move away from the village, she asked him,Where are you taking me?

Sirius brushed aside some dry bushes, revealing a cave. What is this, Sirius?

I think there’s some kind of monster in that place.

Why do you say that?

I went out for a walk early this morning and saw a dark shadow entering and hiding in that place. Maybe

Part II Stones that hide the truth

there’s more than one.

Abril created a silver fireball in her hand and said to him, Then we must cleanse this place before leaving.”

She entered the cave; Sirius followed her. He used his magic to illuminate the whole cave, and what he

saw horrified him: that place was filled with small monsters. Abril remained calm throughout. When the

first monster lunged at her, she threw the fireball she held in her hand, causing it to ignite. She covered the cave with her silver flames, and although Sirius didn’t feel them burning, in seconds she turned all those monsters into ashes. When there were none left, Abril extinguished her flames and said to him, There is nothing more we can do here, so let’s go. We have a journey to resume.
