Part II: A Good King

After all the monsters disappeared, Abril looked for Sirius and Taren. Once she was reunited with them, she told them to leave; they had attracted a lot of attention. Some curious eyes followed them, expectant of what they would do next.

It’s better if we leave before they start approaching to ask questions,” Abril said while trying to hide her face with her hair. She could easily change the color of her hair, but her face was something impossible to change.

Sirius helped Taren walk since he didn’t look very well. He could barely stand on his own. As they turned a corner, they distracted the curious eyes that followed them with the help of magic.

When they left the slums, they headed straight to the royal palace. Upon arriving at the gates, the guards in charge of guarding it, seeing that they had stopped in front of the gates, told them, Go away, don’t obstruct the way.

Sirius said to them, We request an audience with the king.

The guards glanced at them quickly. Seeing the deplorable state they were in, they laughed out loud and told them, The king has more important things to attend to than beggars, so get lost.

Abril was a little annoyed by the contemptuous attitude shown by the guards and said to them, Tell him that I am here to fulfill my words. If you convey my words, I am sure he will let

us in.

What nonsense! What importance would the word of a beggar have for the king?

More than you can imagine. If you truly value your life, I advise you to go and convey my words exactly as I have expressed them.

The guards turned to look at them when they heard the words spoken by that young woman. They gave them another look. Although they looked dirty, disheveled, and their clothes were old and worn out, they had a certain dignity that they couldn’t hide, so they decided to announce them, though they doubted the truth of what they were saying.

We will announce them, although I think it will be useless,” one of the guards said as he turned around. That guard took a long time to return, but when he did, his attitude had changed drastically. He stopped treating them like beggars and started treating them like guests. The other guard, seeing his companion’s change in attitude, apologized to them. One of the guards led them inside the palace.

On their way, they only encountered a few servants. The servants looked down on them, but none of them bowed their heads. They walked with pride, completely ignoring their deplorable state.

The guard took them to a room with large windows that showed a beautiful garden with colorful flowers on the other side. Although she had lived in the palace almost all her life, Abril did not recognize any of the places she had passed. It reminded her that, even though she had been a princess, she had never been treated as part of the royal family.

The guard told them, Wait here, they will attend to you soon.

They sat down to wait. They had fought all night and felt tired. Sirius said, Do you think they

will come soon?

Abril responded, “I hope so.”

After a few minutes, the door opened and Enzo entered. He looked tired and haggard. He didn’t recognize Abril at first, as she had her hair dyed blonde. But after examining her face closely, he knew it was her and said, Finally, you’re here.

I left Cosset as soon as I received your letter, but I saw that many villages were suffering because of the monsters, and I decided to help them.

Enzo sat on an individual sofa in the room, completely ignoring Taren and Sirius, and replied, Not just the villages, the whole kingdom is under constant attack from the monsters.

Enzo sighed heavily, ruffling his reddish hair, and said, I hope that by closing the rift in Hades, all of this will improve. Otherwise, we won’t be able to endure much longer, and it will be the end for the kingdom of Laios.

If things were so bad, why didn’t you ask me to come earlier?

I did. I’ve been sending you letters for a long time asking you to come, but someone has been intercepting my letters. The monsters with human skin hiding among the noblesthey have isolated Laios and are destroying it.

Abril remembered that one time her mother had shown her a scene where several nobles had been killed and darkness had brought them back to life, but there was nothing human left in them.

Enzo continued speaking as if he wanted to vent, to tell someone about everything that had happened up until now. When I returned from the fairyland, I took the throne. The first few months were peaceful, but then the monsters started attacking small villages, and then the cities. I’ve been fighting tirelessly since then, trying to keep my people safe. But as you may already know, those monsters don’t dieyou’re the only one who can put an end to them.

I know, and as I told you before, I’m here to fulfill my word.

Claim

I’ve been informed that some strangers have killed some monsters. I suppose it was you. It has caused quite a commotion.

We were there when the monsters attacked. I couldn’t just stand by knowing I could help.

I would like for you to close the rift in Hades immediately, but judging by your appearance, I don’t think that will be possible.

I would like to rest a bit. We haven’t been able to since we arrived.”

I will request that they prepare a room for you and a change of clothes. I believe you will

need them.

Thank you.

Enzo stood up and said, Soon someone will come to guide you to your rooms. I must leave; I

have a lot of work to do.

Enzo headed towards the door. Before leaving, he turned around and said to Abril, “The monsters will attack again at nightfall. Could you help us with the weapons?

Of course, after taking a bath and resting a bit, I will help you.

Enzo opened the door and left without saying anything else. Sirius said, I thought being a Venobich he would be a complete idiot.

And he is, but I think he really cares about this kingdom and the people who inhabit it, so we must help him, even if we don’t like him.
