Part II: A Stained Bloodline
Enora continued observing her face, her hands touching her cheeks and hair. This young woman was the spitting image of the sister she had lost and searched for so long.
Dantriel, seeing that Enora seemed unable to believe what Abril had told her, stepped forward and said,
“My Queen, the girl is not lying. She is Princess Sophia’s daughter, your niece.”
Enora stepped away from Abril and tried to regain her composure, even though inside she felt as if she had just lost her sister again. If she continued looking at this girl, she felt she would break, so she focused her attention on something else: the man who had accompanied her, his face still covered by his cloak.
“Why haven’t you yet uncovered your face when I gave the order to do so?” she asked him.
Alessandro pulled back the hood of his cloak, revealing his face.
When Enora saw that he was a human, she drew the dagger she always carried at her waist and pointed it
at him. “How did you enter this place?!”
Alessandro raised his hands in surrender. “I simply walked through.”
“Humans cannot enter my kingdom. The barrier that surrounds us prevents it.”
Alessandro, seeing her surprise, realized that Ethan had not lied to him, and this puzzled him. He hadn’t done anything special; he had simply stepped forward and crossed. “I didn’t do anything special.”
“You lie.”
Abril stepped between Enora and Alessandro. “He’s not lying!” she retorted. “He simply crossed the barrier,
so lower your dagger.”
“Silence! It is not to you that I was speaking.”
Abril locked eyes with the Elven Queen. Her golden eyes, like the blazing sun, showed fierceness and
courage. It made Enora’s mind reel. For a moment, she thought this girl was not her niece but her beloved,
lost sister.
Abril continued, “I did not come here today to fight, but if you do not lower your weapon, if you dare touch
a single hair on my husband’s head, you will see my wrath burn this place to the ground.”
Although Enora was astonished by Abril’s fierceness, she could not remain silent with so many eyes
watching them intently. “Though you may be a queen in the human world, you are not one here. Here, you
are nothing but a half–breed whose very existence is anathema. I am the queen here, so bow your head
before me.”
“I will not bow to you, for you are not my queen.”
“Elven blood runs through your veins, and therefore, you belong to me. My authority is over you.”
“Human blood also runs through my veins. Your authority does not extend to me.”

When Abril mentioned her human bloodline, Enora became furious and exploded in anger. “I know that already! Your bloodline is tainted, and therefore your very existence is a stain on this world. Guards, seize
them!”
The guards approached Alessandro and Abril to arrest them, but a strong wind swept through the room, preventing them from advancing. Alessandro had summoned the winds.
Knowing Alessandro’s power, Enora used her magic of nullification. Two guards seized the opportunity to immobilize Alessandro, grabbing his arms, but he fought back. Several guards were needed to subdue
him.
Abril had intended to follow Ethan’s plan, but seeing how they were treating the man she loved, all the
anger and rage she had contained until that moment erupted like a volcano. Silver flames engulfed the
entire room and everyone in it, except for Alessandro.
Everyone began to scream in terror, even the queen flinched as she saw her body in flames.
“Release him,” Abril commanded, “or I will reduce you all to ashes.”
Those silver flames had no heat. Enora thought it was just a trick, a simple illusion. She laughed and said,
“What harm could you possibly do with flames that do not burn?”
“My silver flames do not burn,” Abril said, creating a ball of yellow fire. “But these do, and it wouldn’t take
much for me to change the color of my flames. In an instant, I could reduce everything to ashes.”
Enora’s expression hardened. The girl’s defiance angered her like never before.
Dantriel, seeing the intense stare between them, like two ferocious predators, approached Enora and said,
“Your Majesty, calm yourself. Do not forget that this girl is the only daughter of your sister, someone for
whom she was willing to give her life to ensure her safety. She is her last will.”
Those words calmed Enora’s anger. Addressing the girl who defied her authority, she said, “I can nullify
your magic whenever I please. Cease your act of bravery and make your magic disappear.”
“Then order them to release him.”
Enora signaled to the guards to release Alessandro. Once free, Abril rushed to his side and checked him
for injuries. Besides a few bruises, he seemed to be fine. He took her hand and said, “I’m alright, Aby.”
Everyone present murmured and pointed at Abril as if she were a monster. Abril ignored them, helped
Alessandro up from the ground, and held her head high. If she showed weakness, they would descend on
her like a pack of hungry wolves.
Enora returned to her throne, crossing her legs as she stared intently at Abril and Alessandro. Abril did not break eye contact for a moment. Seeing that the queen was not saying anything, she decided to break the
silence herself.
“I have come to retrieve my daughter. Where is she?”
“She is safe. My daughter has taken very good care of her. But I believe you are mistaken in saying that

you have come to retrieve her. She will not leave this place, and neither will you.” Enora turned to Alessandro. “And you will not leave this place until you tell me how you crossed my barrier.”
