Part II: I Am Your Daughter
Abril grew increasingly nervous as they advanced; the closer they were to the palace, the more her anxiety and fear grew.
Alessandro seemed to be just as nervous as she was, repeatedly running his hand over his head and touching his hair, something he often did when he was nervous.
As they neared the palace, Alessandro asked, “How are we going to get into the palace?”
“Through the main gate. We will need an audience with the queen, and announcing ourselves is the only
way to get it.”
“That’s risky. What will we do if she doesn’t grant us an audience and sends us straight to the dungeons?”
What Alessandro had said had also crossed her mind several times.
Ethan replied, “That won’t happen. She wants to see Abril.”
“How can you be so sure of that?”
“Queen Enora never leaves the kingdom, but she did to go looking for Abril. It’s clear what her purpose
was: she wants to see her sister’s daughter with her own eyes.”
“That’s true, but Se, we’ll be in serious trouble.”
When they reached the palace gates, Ethan said to the guards, “We request an audience with the queen.”
One of the guards replied, “You know you are forbidden to enter the palace, Ethan, so we cannot announce
you.”
“I know, but it is not for me that I am requesting an audience.” Ethan asked Abril to come closer and
continued to address the guards. “Tell her that Abril Venobich, daughter of Princess Sophia Babette, is
here.”
Both guards‘ eyes widened at Ethan’s words. They tried to see the woman’s face, but it was hidden under
the shadows of the cloak.
“And how do we know she’s not an imposter?”
“That is not something you could know, but the queen does, so announce her.”
The two guards had a silent discussion, and finally agreed to his request, for if the person was a liar, the
only one who would be affected would be Ethan.
“Very well, I will announce her.”
Before leaving, the guard told Ethan, “You know that if this woman is an imposter, you will have to pay the price for trying to deceive a member of the royal family.”
“She is no imposter, so don’t worry about me.”

Abril was the first to remove her hood, revealing her face. When Enora saw her, she thought she was looking at a ghost. She stepped down from her throne and approached, staring at her intently as a tear
rolled down her cheek. “Sophia!”
Abril saw love and sweetness in the elven queen’s eyes. She stared back at her; she was beautiful and
bore a certain resemblance to her mother.
Enora raised her hand and gently caressed the girl’s cheek. Feeling the warmth of her skin, she embraced her. “Sophia! You’re alive! You’re alive!” the queen repeated over and over again as she hugged her tightly,
as if afraid she would disappear if she let go. “You’re here! You’re alive!”
Enora cupped her face in her hands and gazed at her for a moment. “They told me you were dead, but it seems they lied,” Enora said, shooting a murderous look at Dantriel, letting him know that he would pay
dearly for lying to her.
Abril pulled away from her and said, “That’s right. My mother, Sophia, is dead. I am Abril Venobich, her
daughter.”
