Forgotten Wife Let the traitors kneel Down (by Patricia Maradiaga) novel Chapter 302

Part II: It’s not the end

Barto had stopped halfway, and Maya wondered what had happened. She opened her eyes, which she had kept closed because everything was spinning, to see what was going on. Her brother was

staring fixedly at a beautiful blonde girl, whom he seemed to know because he had pronounced

her name. Kiara.

Who is that girl, Barto?Maya asked.

Barto hesitated a moment before answering Maya’s question, as Kiara had always wanted their relationship to remain a secret, something he had respected until that moment. Although Maya knew he had been seeing an elf girl, Barto had never mentioned her identity, much less her name.

Kiara approached them in a fury. When she stood before them, she stopped and placed her hands on her hips, making her look even angrier than she already seemed.

Why don’t you answer her question?she demanded.

I thought you didn’t want anyone to know,Barto replied.

Kiara couldn’t refute Barto’s response, but that didn’t change the fact that she felt deceived by him.

And that’s why you’re cheating on me?she yelled.

Cheating on you? What are you talking about?Barto asked, bewildered.

You have another girl in your arms and you have the nerve to ask me that?

Wait, this isn’t what it seems, I can explain,” Barto pleaded.

I don’t want to hear the lies you’ll make up. My eyes have already shown me the truth,” Kiara

retorted.

Kiara

My mother was right; all humans are the same.

Kiara turned and began to walk away, spitting out those words with great disdain, anger, and disappointment. Barto shouted her name.

Kiara!

She stopped and turned to look at him one last time, exasperated.

What?!

She’s my sister.

Kiara shifted her gaze to the young girl in Barto’s arms. The girl had black hair and red eyes like

Barto. She looked back and forth between them repeatedly, observing them closely. The

resemblance was undeniable, but she still had doubts.

You’re lying!she accused.

Maya, seeing the scene, realized who the girl was. She was Barto’s lover. Although she didn’t know how Kiara had gotten to the palace or how she knew she would find her brother there, Maya

wanted to help her brother clear up the misunderstanding.

Barto isn’t lying. I’m Maya, his younger sister. I’m not feeling well, which is why he’s carrying me in

his arms.

It wasn’t until Maya mentioned it that Barto remembered his sister was not well at all. He resumed walking, and as he passed by Kiara, he said, I need to take my sister to rest. We’ll continue this conversation later, so don’t even think about leaving.”

Kiara watched as Barto walked away, wondering if the whole situation had been a misunderstanding. She stood by the door for a moment, contemplating what to do, and then decided not to wait for him like a fool. Even though he had told her to stay there, she didn’t plan to do so. She decided to follow him secretly, staying a few steps behind.

Cassian had been informed that Maya had returned to the palace. He ran like a madman to meet her, and in one of the hallways, he found them. Barto was carrying Maya in his arms; she looked pale and weak. Seeing her in such a state made his heart clench in his chest.

Maya!he exclaimed.

Seeing the look on Cassian’s face, Maya regretted not waiting until she felt a bit better before returning to the palace. Seeing the pain and helplessness reflected on her beloved’s face broke her

heart.

Maya asked her brother to put her down, but seeing her in such a bad state, he refused.

You’re still not well.

I’m fine. Put me down and go clear up the misunderstanding with your girl, or you might end up losing her.

Barto set Maya down on the ground and stayed by her side for a moment to make sure she wouldn’t fall. Maya gave him a light punch on the arm, though her intention had been to hit him

harder.

Go on, I’m fine.

Seeing that his sister was feeling better, Barto turned and began to walk away.

Cassian hurried to Maya’s side. He held her by the waist to make sure she wouldn’t fall.

Are you okay?he asked.

Maya kissed him on the cheek. I’m fine, so change that face.

You’re very pale. I’ll take you to Abril.

They’ve returned? How did it go?

They returned yesterday and are fine. They’ve recovered Lissana.

Maya sighed in relief. That’s good.

Seeing how pale and unwell she looked, Cassian asked again, What happened, Maya?

But this time, his tone had changed, as if saying, don’t lie to me, tell me the truth.

I just got dizzy from using the teleportation scroll. I still feel queasy, which is why my brother was carrying me.

You’re not lying to me?

No, this time I’m not. It was from using the scroll. The same thing happened when I used it to go,

but after resting, I felt much better.

Even so, I think it would be better to go to Abril.”

I’d prefer to rest a bit before seeing her. I still feel like everything is spinning.

Alright.

Cassian picked her up in his arms. Maya rested her head on his shoulder and said, Sorry for

worrying you.”

You have nothing to apologize for. I’m your partner, your companion, and even though I haven’t done it before an altar, I’ve promised to be with you in good times and bad, in health and sickness,

until

Cassian’s words were cut off abruptly. Maya finished what he couldn’t say.

Until death do us part.”

Cassian continued walking in silence. Long ago, he had thought those words were romantic because he believed death would come after a long life with his beloved. But death loomed over Maya, and he thought those words had become a curse.

Seeing the expression of pain and sadness on Cassian’s face, Maya said, I won’t die soon, so that until death do us partwill come when we’re both old, with white hair and hunched backs. So don’t

Kiara had followed Barto, but when she saw him starting to walk away, she hid, not wanting to be seen in such a pathetic state. Barto passed by, and Kiara stayed hidden a bit longer to ensure she wouldn’t be discovered. When she emerged from her hiding spot, she saw that girl being embraced by Cassian and unintentionally overheard their conversation. This cleared up all her doubts. When they left, Kiara heard Barto’s voice behind her saying, After what you’ve seen, do you

believe me now?

Kiara jumped at the sound of his voice, as she hadn’t noticed his presence. Don’t scare me like

that!

Then don’t hide.

Kiara was still somewhat upset, though she wasn’t sure why. She pushed him and said, Don’t

come so close.

Do you still not believe that the girl from before is my sister Maya?

The fact that they were siblings was undeniable; she couldn’t argue otherwise. But something made her keep her distance from Barto, a strange feeling of abandonment she had never felt before. Seeing her avoid eye contact, Barto took Kiara’s face in his hands and forced her to look at him. Why won’t you look at me?

Kiara stared dumbly at Barto’s beautiful face, his deep gaze, his red eyes like precious jewels. Do you not love me anymore?

The trance Kiara was in shattered into a thousand pieces. She was very upset by what Barto was saying. She loved him so much that she was willing to disobey and rebel against her mother for him. The mere idea that he thought her feelings had faded was an insult to her. Pushing him with great force, she responded, Forget you? The only one who seems to have forgotten me is you.

Kiara turned her back and started to walk away, not wanting to have that conversation as she was too upset. But Barto grabbed her hand, holding her back. I haven’t forgotten you. My feelings for you haven’t changed. I’m just as in love with you as I was a year agono, maybe even more now, because my love for you doesn’t wane; it only grows.

Kiara turned to look at him. His eyes fixed on her conveyed what his words expressed. They told her how much he loved and missed her. Barto let go of Kiara’s hand to hold her waist and said, I missed you, Kiara. Having you in my arms again is like a sweet dream.

Barto caressed Kiara’s cheeks, feeling the softness of her skin. I wonder if this is a dream?

Did you really miss me?
