Abril, Alessandro, and the knights began cleaning the duchies that very afternoon. Since it was late, they only managed to clear the closest path, which was near the city and the mansion. For several days, they continued this routine, waking up very early and returning late. These were exhausting days for Abril, as
many of the areas where the monsters had appeared were agricultural fields that had died due to the darkness, turning into swamps of black mud. Abril had to purify the land and its surroundings, which was
even more tiring as it consumed a large amount of magic.
When there were no more monsters left in the city of Zathier, Abril blessed all the weapons of the duchy
and said to Duchess Mollin, “Your weapons have been blessed. If the monsters attack again, use these weapons to fight. Only these weapons can harm them.”
The duchess took Abril’s hands and said, “Thank you, Your Majesty. I will always be in debt for what you
have done for us.”
“You have nothing to thank me for; I have only done my duty as queen.”
“I see you have changed a lot since the last time I saw you. I am glad to see you have become a good
queen.”
“You were the first to treat me as a queen, even when everyone despised me for being the enemy’s
daughter. I will never forget that.”
“Now there is no one who would dare think ill of Your Majesty. You have become our savior; many
consider you a saint. Now, no one despises you.”
Alessandro wrapped his arm around Abril’s waist and said, “And they better keep it that way, unless they
want to lose their heads.”
“We must go. Please take care, Duchess, and continue looking after the children as you have been.”
“I will, Your Majesty. When all this is over, please come visit us.”
“I will, I promise.”
The knights were already prepared to depart when Sirius approached them and said, “We should go.”
Abril hugged the duchess and said, “See you soon.”
“I wish you a safe journey, Your Majesty.”
Abril and Alessandro returned to the palace. Kiara was waiting for them at the entrance, and the first thing she did was search for Barto with her eyes. When she confirmed that they were uninjured, she focused her gaze on Abril and Alessandro, who were standing in front of her.
“How did everything go in our absence?”
“Boring, there was nothing to do. There were no attacks.”

“That’s good,” Abril said, as she was a bit worried that people in the palace might get hurt if Cira attacked.
“And how did it go for you?”
“There were many attacks, but everything is under control now.”
“You must be tired, so I’ll leave you.”
Kiara turned around and started to walk away. Barto followed her, and when they were out of sight of
others, she asked, “What do you want? Why are you following me?”
“Are you still upset?”
“No.”
Barto tried to take Kiara’s hand, but she pulled it away. “But that doesn’t mean our relationship continues.
It’s over.”
“Why are you doing this? I love you, and I know you love me too.”
“It’s true, I still love you, but I don’t want to continue because I know you will never love me the same way I
love you. I will return to my kingdom. I only stopped to tell you this.”
“Why are you leaving?”
“I have nothing left to do here. There’s no reason for me to stay.”
“You plan to run away from me like this.”
“I’m not running away.”
Barto stepped in front of Kiara and forced her to look at him. “Look me in the eyes and tell me you’re not
running away.”
“This is not good for either of us, Barto. Our relationship never should have been and never will be. Everything separates us; it’s like swimming against the current, and I’ve realized I’m doing it alone, and I’m
tired.”
“I’m sorry, I was wrong. Don’t leave me.”
“You didn’t hesitate to leave me first.”
“And I regret it. Give me another chance, Kiara. Don’t leave me. I don’t want to be without you. If you go to Arkala, I’ll never see you again, and that would kill me.”
“It took me a lot to make this decision. Why are you making it even harder than it already is?”
“Because I love you and don’t want to lose you.”
Barto brought his face closer to Kiara’s. He was so close that Kiara almost stopped breathing for a moment. His fingers tangled in her blonde hair. “Can I kiss you?” he asked in a pleading voice. Kiara knew that if she didn’t give her permission, he wouldn’t kiss her. That stubborn fairy never did anything without her consent, something she had once liked because it showed the respect he felt for her. But at that

moment, when her mind said no, but her body screamed otherwise, she wished he wouldn’t ask and just kiss her because she longed to feel his moist lips on hers again.
Kiara shook her head. Barto’s eyes grew teary; her response was breaking something inside him. He didn’t just want to kiss her; he wanted to know if she would stay with him.
“Kiara!” Her name came out as a plea from his lips, breaking her heart into pieces in a way she never imagined possible. But she didn’t want to continue being hurt by this relationship that would lead nowhere.
“Is this really our farewell?”
“Stop this, Barto. Let’s stop hurting each other.”
“I don’t care if you hurt me, if you break my heart into a thousand pieces or make it bleed, just don’t throw it away. Don’t leave me.” There was desperation and pain in his voice. And in the end, Kiara hesitated once more. She wanted to let him go, but she couldn’t. She had given him her heart so long ago that if she left him, she would be nothing but a walking corpse, a body without a soul, merely existing because all the joy and happiness would stay with him.
Kiara kissed him. And Barto received her with passion, all his emotions overflowing like a dam that could no longer hold the water.
Kiara let herself fall headfirst into the kiss, as if she were really falling from a mountain into the sea. Barto’s lips on hers were firm and sweet. She let out a soft cry when she parted her own lips, and the heat where their mouths fused seemed to double.
It was Barto who pulled away first, though only far enough to cradle Kiara’s face in his hands. “My Kiara, you are the owner of my heart, my love, everything I have and everything I am. These days away from you have made me realize that a life without you is a sad and meaningless life, a life I don’t want to live.”
Barto brushed Kiara’s cheek. She shivered; after tasting his lips and hearing his words, her body burned just like her heart. Her love was stronger than she was.
“I see you in my mind during the day and dream of you constantly at night.” Barto spoke in a whisper; his jet–black hair clung to his cheeks and neck.
“I have loved you since the moment I met you. I have loved you all this time we were apart, believing I would never see you again. I have loved you without hope or expectation.”
Kiara grabbed the front of Barto’s shirt violently. “Love me, then, and don’t give up on me so easily,” she said in a harsh voice. “Show me with actions, not just words, how much you’love me.”
