I Want to Learn More About My Mother

Alessandro returned to his office and continued working until it started to get dark. He went directly to the dining room, hoping to see Abril, but she wasn’t there, only Cassian was.
“Where is Abril? Why hasn’t she arrived yet?”
“She said she was sleepy, so she went to bed early.”
“Without dinner?”
“Looks like it.”
Alessandro was worried; Abril never skipped a meal.
“I’m sorry, Cas, but I can’t join you either. I want to go see how Abril is doing.”
“Don’t worry, I’m not really hungry either. I’ll go rest too.”
“Good night, brother, I’ll see you tomorrow.”
Alessandro went to his room, and upon entering, he found the lights off. The only light was the moonlight
filtering through the windows. In the middle of the bed, he could see Abril; she seemed to be sleeping. He
approached her and, seeing her sleeping face, wondered if she was okay.
He stayed by her side for a while, then changed into his pajamas and got into bed, wrapping her in his
arms, enjoying the warmth of her body. He kissed her forehead and wished for tomorrow to come so he
could confirm that she was okay, that nothing was wrong with her.
That night, Alessandro could hardly sleep, even though Abril seemed fine; he felt something was off.
When Abril opened her eyes, the first thing she saw was his worried and tired face; he caressed her cheek
and asked her.
“How are you feeling?”
Abril tensed up upon hearing Alessandro’s question. She wondered if Gabriel had told him she wasn’t feeling well, but since she wasn’t sure of anything, she decided to lie.
“I’m doing great.”
“Are you sure?”
“Yes, I have no doubt.”
“You didn’t have dinner yesterday, I was worried about you, I thought you weren’t feeling well.”
“Don’t worry, I’m very well, I was just a little tired, I had a busy day yesterday.”
“Is that really all there is to it?”
“Yes, that’s all there is to it, so stop worrying.”

“Soon it will be Cassian’s naming ceremony, that day I want us to dance together.”
“But I still don’t do it very well.”
‘But you will, I’m completely sure of it.”

From that day on, Abril became much busier, taking classes on palace management and etiquette lessons
for dances.
But she was still tired from having broken the second seal, so she went to bed early. When Alessandro
arrived in the room, she was already asleep.
Abril had gone for a walk in the garden. Several days had passed since she broke the second seal, but her body still felt heavy. She went for a walk in the garden before the sun sets completely to clear her mind. She stopped in front of some camellias, from which she could smell a sweet aroma that made her relax.
“Sophia.”
Said a voice behind her. That voice sounded familiar, although she didn’t understand why he had said her
mother’s name. She turned around.
It was a man with blond, tousled hair. Abril asked him.
“Who are you?”
“I’m Ethan. We’ve met before.”
Abril remembered that he had also called her Sophia back then. At that moment, she realized who this
man was.
“You’re my mother’s friend.”
“That’s right, I’d like to talk to your mother. Can you bring her here?”
Abril shook her head.
“Things don’t work that way, I can’t make my mother appear whenever I want. On the contrary, she only appears in my dreams when she needs to tell me something.”
“I see.”
Abril could see the disappointment on Ethan’s face, so she said something to cheer him up a bit.
“But if she appears in my dreams, I’ll tell her you want to talk to her.”
Ethan doubted he would see Sophia again; she had already said goodbye to him. Yet, he couldn’t accept that farewell, as he wanted to see her again and tell her how much he loved her.
“I’d be forever grateful if you could do that.”
Abril stared at him intently and asked him.
“Did you know my mother well?”
<I Want to Learn More About My Mother
“Yes, we’ve been friends since we were kids.”
Abril, who knew almost nothing about her mother, told him.

“I don’t know anything about my mother. Could you tell me what she was like? Did she have family? Do I have more family in the elf kingdom?”
“I see you already know what we are.”
“Alessandro mentioned it to me a few days ago, and since then, I can’t stop thinking about what she was like before she married my father.”
Ethan frowned when she mentioned her father; it seemed he hated him too. But he answered her question with some sadness.
“Your mother is a sweet, gentle, compassionate, cheerful, and brave woman.A truly wonderful person.”
Abril realized that when Ethan spoke of her mother, his eyes shone with great emotion. She recognized
that emotion. It was love. She asked him.
“Did you love my mother?”
“Yes, and I still do. For me, she’ll always be the one.”

Ethan approached Abril and stroked her hair; she looked exactly like Sophia, except for her hair. Sophia’s was blonde and straight, while Abril’s was auburn and curly, which is why when he had seen her in that
town with blonde hair, he had confused them.
“You really are her daughter.”
“Excuse me.”
“You’re her spitting image; if your hair were blonde, I’d say you were her.”
“It actually makes me happy to know I look like my mother and not my father, although I did inherit my hair
color from him.”
When Abril mentioned her father, the soft and sweet expression disappeared from Ethan’s face, replaced
by one filled with hatred and resentment; Abril stepped back, moving away from Ethan, as there was
something about him that scared her.
Cassian had gone for a walk in the garden when he saw Abril with Ethan from a distance. He hurried over to where they were, worried Ethan might harm her. When he arrived, he saw Abril stepping back, looking a
bit frightened.
“Stay away from her.”
Ethan stepped back a few steps, raised his hands in the air, and said,
“I haven’t done anything to her, we were just talking.”
Cassian stepped between them, shielding Abril with his body, and said,
“You are not allowed to be here.”
“I’m not allowed? Am I a prisoner?”
Ethan laughed sarcastically, saying,
“Don’t forget that I’m an ally, you have no authority over me, I’ll go where I want.”
“This is not your home, you can’t do whatever you want.”
Ethan began to walk away and said,
“You should treat your allies better, lest they become enemies.”
When Ethan had walked a certain distance away from them, Cassian asked Abril,
“How are you? Did he do anything to you?”
Abril shook her head and replied,
“We were just talking.”

“About what?”

“About my mother, they were friends, so I asked him what she was like. I never knew her, so I was curious.”
“But a moment ago, you seemed scared.”
“I mentioned my father, his expression changed completely, it scared me a little, but he wasn’t rude, so you shouldn’t be rude to him either.”
“I don’t like him, I can’t be nice to someone I don’t like.”
“Why don’t you like him? He seemed very nice to me.”
“Because of his obsession with you, it’s strange.”
“Actually, I understand him perfectly, he told me he loves my mother, that even if she’s dead, she will be the only one for him; I look a lot like my mother, I think when he sees me, he longs for her.”
“Even so, you shouldn’t get too close to him, and above all, don’t mention to Alessandro that you’ve talked to him, my brother is very jealous, he’ll be furious if he finds out you were talking alone.”
“Okay, I won’t say anything.”
Abril realized that since they had returned from the trip, they barely saw each other during meals as everyone seemed very busy, so she said,
“It’s been a long time since we went for a walk, do you want to walk with me?”
“Of course.”
While they were walking, Abril asked,
“Has Maya not returned yet?”
“No, and to be honest, I’m starting to worry, she said she’d be back in three days, but it’s been a week, and
she still hasn’t returned.”
“Maybe she had some inconvenience, I’m sure she’ll be back soon.”
“I hope so.”
Abril had seen that Maya and Cassian were very close, and above all, she had heard the servants talking
about them, saying they were more than friends since they slept together. She couldn’t hide her curiosity
any longer and asked,
“Are you in love with Maya?”
The question surprised Cassian a lot, he couldn’t hide it from showing on his face.
“Why do you ask that?”
“It’s just that the servants have been talking a lot about you two, they say it’s most likely she’ll become your
wife.”

Cassian felt a bit uncomfortable talking about this topic with Abril since she had been his first love and he
still had feelings for her, but she looked at him expectantly, so he just answered without giving many
details,
“That won’t happen.”
“Why not?”
“She said she can’t get married, she hasn’t told me the reason.”
“Does that mean you asked her?”
He didn’t respond, but it wasn’t necessary. Cassian was like an open book, all his answers appeared on his
face, Abril laughed and said to him,
“Your face says you did ask her, although it seems she rejected you.”
“That’s right, I’ve been rejected, so let’s not talk about it, I feel like a dagger is stabbing my heart when
someone else says it.”
“Alright, I won’t mention your rejection again.”
“You say you will, but you keep bringing it up.”
“I’m sorry, sometimes I’m a bit slow on the uptake.”
“A bit? Sometimes way too much.”
They both chuckled softly, like people who are just happy to be together. Abril said to him.
“It’s been ages since we last hung out.”
“True, I think we haven’t really caught up since we got back.”
“That’s right. Alessandro told me you’re leaving the palace after the naming ceremony. You’re my first
friend, and I’ll miss you.”
“I’ll miss you too.”
“It’ll be so lonely here without you.”
Seeing Abril’s sad expression, Cassian said.
“Come on, there’s a place I want to show you.”
Abril followed him to a small garden hidden behind some bushes, yet it was well cared for. Cassian said to
her.
“This is one of my favorite places. I used to come here to think when I was little or when I felt lonely.”
“When you felt lonely?”
“Yes, I know it seems contradictory, but that’s how it is. My mother showed me this place once when we
were playing hide and seek with Alessandro. I remember us hiding here for hours, laughing at how long it

would take Lessan to find us. It’s one of my best memories, that’s why when I come here, strangely
enough, I don’t feel alone. Sometimes I feel like I can still hear my mother’s laughter.”

Abril had no memories with her mother, in fact, she didn’t have a single good memory from when she was
a child. She said to him.
“I wish I had a memory like that. I think I wouldn’t have felt so alone if I did.”
“But you’re not alone now. You have my brother, and even from afar, there are people who care about you.”
“I know.”

When the sun had completely set, Cassian said to her, “I think it would be better if we head back. If
Alessandro gets to the dining room before us, he’ll start wondering where you are.”
“Can I come here whenever I need to think or feel a bit lonely?”
“Of course, you can come whenever you wish.”
Abril and Cassian were heading to the palace when one of the servants hurriedly approached.
“Prince Cassian.”
“What’s the matter? Why do you look so agitated?”
“You told me to inform you when Miss Maya returns.”
“Is she here?”
“Yes, she just arrived a moment ago.”
“Is she alright?”
“Yes, she seemed fine.”
Cassian felt relieved to know that Maya had been fine; he had been very worried since she had taken longer than she had said. Abril placed her hand on his shoulder and said, “See, you had nothing to worry about, she’s fine.”
“Yes, you were right.”
“You must be eager to see her.”
“That’s not the case.”
“It seems like it is, so why not go see her?”
“I’ll accompany you to the dining room.”
