Forgotten Wife Let the traitors kneel Down (by Patricia Maradiaga) novel Chapter 417

Dark Fire

Enzo stayed close to his sister Cira, waiting for her to get distracted. He had been watching her for too long, and she fixed her gaze on him and asked,

Are you up to something, brother?

Of course not. Why do you ask?

You’ve been watching me for a while, it’s obvious you’re up to something.”

I’m not plotting anything, sister, I wouldn’t dare do anything against you.”

Cira laughed as if he had made a joke and moved a little closer to him. Enzo could see the black aura emanating from his sister. It was dark and sinister. He felt a shiver run through his body and couldn’t help but tremble. Cira made him fearful, but he still held her gaze.

I don’t know what you’re plotting, but I advise you to stop if you don’t want to die. Remember, you’re alive because you’re useful to me, so don’t tempt me.

I’m not plotting anything, sister, you’re being paranoid.”

You’re wrong, I’m not paranoid, I’m just cautious.

Cira turned around upon hearing a loud growl. She searched with her eyes, and in the distance, she could see the fairy queen attacking her monster. She frowned and said with great annoyance,

That damn bitch is a nuisance. Doesn’t she plan to give up? It’s more than obvious that I’ve already won this war.

Enzo was about to say something when suddenly Cira looked elsewhere. Shortly after, she made a great leap, using the darkness to propel herself and headed to the battlefield. This took Enzo by surprise, and he wondered what was happening.

He mounted his horse and hurried after her. Cira wasn’t heading towards where the fairy queen was; she was heading somewhere else in the same direction the monsters were taking, as if they were chasing something or someone.

There were two youths trying to escape from the monsters. Cira was faster and blocked their path with a wall of black flames, just before they crossed the barrier that protected the fairy camp.

Well, well, I think I’ve found what I was looking for.”

Cira approached the two youths who were on the ground.

I thought I would have to turn this land to ashes to find what I came to seek. Who would have thought I’d find it on the battlefield?

Maya was unconscious, having hit her head on a rock when she fell. Cassian crawled to where she was and took her in his arms, gently tapping her cheek to bring her back to consciousness while saying,

Dark Fire

Maya, wake up, open your eyes, tell me you’re okay.

Cira moved a little closer to Cassian. He could feel there was something dark and cold beneath the human skin of that redhaired young woman. Although it was the first time he had seen her, by her appearance he realized that the young woman was Abril’s sister, Cira Venobich.

If you hand over the key to the Gate of Hades that is in your possession, I might let you live.

Cassian clung to Maya as Cira spoke. He searched with his eyes for a way to escape, but the longer they waited, the more monsters surrounded them.

Don’t even think about trying to escape. If you do, I’ll kill you and continue with the plan. I’ll search for the key to the Gate of Hades in the ashes.

I don’t have it.

I know, but you know where it is, since the key has been in your possession. You can’t hide the aura the key emits, as it has left its mark on your body.

I don’t

Cira launched a ball of black fire that grazed Cassian and Maya. Although it didn’t hit them, the heat from the fire burned their skin.

Think carefully about what you’re going to say. As you can see, I’m not exactly a kind person. I discard anything that isn’t useful to me.

Cassian tried to seek help, but there were only monsters around him.

Cira created another ball of fire in her hand and, with a twisted smile, said to him.

So, where is the key?

Enzo tried to reach Cira, but it was impossible. A multitude of monsters surrounded her and blocked his way. From where he was, he could see his sister focusing all her attention on what was in front of her. She was distracted, making it the perfect moment to attack.

Enzo used his magic to make Abril appear at that precise moment behind Cira, taking her by surprise.

Abril had been absorbed by a shadow. For a moment, everything turned dark, and when she opened her eyes, the first thing she saw was Cassian holding Maya in his arms and her sister intimidating him with a ball of black fire in her hand. Without thinking twice, Abril launched a ball of fire at Cira. Her silver flames burned Cira’s back, making her scream in pain.

Abril took advantage of the moment to go to where Cassian and Maya were and asked them.

Are you okay?

Cassian was very surprised to see Abril since he hadn’t seen her arrive, but as this was not the time to be astonished, he replied.

< Dark Fire

I’m fine, but I don’t know if Maya is okay. She hit her head when we fell.

Abril placed her hand on Maya’s head and used her healing magic. She soon opened her eyes. Cassian hugged her, relieved that she was okay.

When Cira realized it was Abril who had attacked her, she felt her blood boil with rage. She stood up, and a

distorted voice came from her throat.

You damn bitch, how dare you attack me?

Cira, stop, you won’t win this war.

A guttural laugh came from Cira’s throat.

You think I won’t win? Look around. My monsters are surrounding you. If anyone’s losing today, it won’t be

me.

Cira started moving closer, a sinister energy began to seep from her body, and with each step she took,

the grass beneath her feet withered, leaving a trail of blackened, cursed earth.

I’ve always wanted to kill you, but Father never let me. Now that he is dead, I’m the queen of Laíos, and there’s no one above me now, so I’m going to take your head as a trophy.

Black flames appeared in Cira’s hands, while Abril conjured silver flames in hers. Cassian saw that they

were similar yet different, like day and night; their powers confirmed this. Without taking her eyes off Cira,

Abril told Cassian and Maya.

Go.

Cassian stood up, drew his sword, and said,

I’m not leaving, I’ll fight with you.

No, this fight is between her and me. If you stay, you’ll just get killed.”

But

Cassian, please go and take Maya with you, I’ll be fine.

It doesn’t matter if this scum stays or leaves, his fate is sealed; he’ll die regardless.

Abril stepped forward and positioned herself between Cassian and Cira. She seemed to be shielding him,

and repeated.

Cassian, go, you’re in no condition to fight, if you stay, you’ll just be a distraction.

Cassian had injured a leg when he fell. He knew he wasn’t much help, but Abril’s bluntness stung a bit. He looked at Maya, who had woken up but was still somewhat dazed from the blow. He helped her to her feet, held her close, and said,

Be very careful.

Don’t worry, I’ll be fine. I don’t plan to lose, since your brother is waiting for my return.

Cassian took Maya in his arms and, with the little strength he had left, crossed the barrier. He hated himself for not staying, but at that moment they were just a burden to Abril.

You seem awfully confident for a damn useless person.”

Abril ignored her sister’s words of contempt and prepared to attack. This only infuriated Cira further; she ordered the monsters there to attack. They lunged at Abril, but none managed to touch her, as she turned

them to ashes with her silver flames.

I’m not useless anymore, Cira. I’m not the same weak and powerless girl you constantly tortured.

Abril launched a ball of silver fire, which Cira dodged easily and responded.

To me, you will always be a worthless bitch, good for nothing and whom I want to destroy.

Why do you hate me so much, Cira? I never did anything to deserve your hatred.

Do I need a reason to hate you? I don’t think so.”

Cira ordered more monsters to attack, but they turned to ash before touching her.

You are blinded by hatred and resentment, Cira. Darkness seems to have completely dominated you.

Cira let out a big laugh and said,

Darkness has never controlled me. Everything I do, I do because I desire it; I am fully aware of it.

How can you say that?

Compared to you, I enjoy causing harm and provoking pain. That has always been my delight. You used to ask me why I was so cruel to you; I think that would be a good reason. I hate you and torment you because

it brings me pleasure.

Cira ordered all the nearby monsters to attack. Abril cloaked herself in her silver flames, ensuring that no

monster could touch her, then extended her flames across the battlefield, destroying all the monsters in

her path.

Cira took advantage of that moment to lunge at her and tried to attack, but like the monsters, those

flames made her scream in pain. She could feel the demon inside her writhing in agony and amidst

screams begging her to flee, but Cira’s pride was stronger, so she did not retreat. Even when those flames

were making her go through hell, she persisted in attacking.

She tried to land a blow on Abril, but Abril intercepted it with ease.

Damn bitch, I’ll kill you.”

Cira kept attacking, but her blows lacked strength. Abril stopped them with her hands. She used her magic to return a blow, causing Cira to fall to the ground.
