Seeing that all the monsters had turned to ashes, the fairy queen mounted her winged horse and went to where Abril was. Abril looked somewhat pale and tired.
“You should rest. You’ve used too much magic, human queen.”
“I’m fine.”
Everyone present shared the fairy queen’s concern, as Abril didn’t look well, and they insisted she should go, rest. In the end, she had no choice but to do as they asked.
“This war is over, you can return to the palace. Your presence here is not required, my servants will take
care of you.”
The fairy queen used her magic to send Abril to her palace. Upon arrival, several fairies approached her
and took her to her room.
“Would you like us to prepare a bath, something to eat? Or would you like to rest?”
Abril felt tired and somewhat dizzy, so she replied.
“I wish to rest. You may leave.”
All the fairies left. Abril laid down on the soft and fluffy bed, feeling dizzy and nauseous. Her magic had been fully released, breaking all the seals. She thought this would mean she wouldn’t have problems using her magic anymore, but apparently, she was wrong because she felt extremely unwell.
Abril closed her eyes and quickly fell asleep. The next day, when she woke up, she was surprised to see Maya in her room, who gave her a smile and said,
“Good morning, Abril. Did you sleep well?”
Abril sat up in bed, suddenly felt nauseous, and laid back down.
“I don’t think I’m feeling very well.”
“Should I call a doctor?”
“Don’t worry, I think it’s because I got up too quickly.”
“Are you sure?”
“Yes, I just need to rest. Cassian was injured. How is he?”
“He’s fine, it wasn’t serious.”
“And how are you?”
Maya sat on the bed and said,
“I’m fine, actually, we were all more worried about you. We thought you might fall into a deep sleep again

like last time.”
Abril was frightened at the thought that she might have been sleeping for days.
“Wait, how many days have I been sleeping?”
“Relax, it’s only been a day.”
Abril sighed with relief.
“Is everyone else okay?”
“Yes, everyone is fine, although Ethan kept pestering us about wanting to make sure you were okay, that the fairy queen hadn’t harmed you. But even though the queen is cunning, she wouldn’t do such a thing: she greatly values and respects her allies.”
“You seem to know her well.”
Maya shrugged and replied.
“Just a little.”
“Although the war is over, in the end my sister fled.”
“Yes, that has everyone on the edge, especially your idiot brother.”
“Is Enzo still here?”
“Yes, apparently he wants to talk to you before leaving. He’s the enemy. I don’t get why he’s being treated like a guest.”
“We made an alliance with him, so he’s no longer our enemy, although I can’t really say he’s an ally either.”
“The fairy queen explained it shortly after sending you back to the palace. However, no one considers him an ally. He seems like someone who might attack you at any moment.”
“Honestly, I feel the same way; Enzo can’t be trusted.”
“I hope he leaves soon; it makes me uneasy having him around.”
“He’s really stubborn; he won’t leave until he’s talked to me. I’d better get up and go talk to him.”
Abril tried to get up, but felt dizzy again and laid back down.
“Maybe I need to rest a bit more.”
A week later, Abril’s condition hadn’t improved; on the contrary, her nausea had become even worse, and she could barely eat without vomiting. Everyone was very worried about her.
Maya was so worried that she dared to ask the fairy queen for help.
The fairy queen had just finished a meeting with some subordinates when Maya entered; she looked surprised and said.

“Your visit has taken me by surprise; I thought you hated me and didn’t want to know anything about me.”
“I don’t hate Her Majesty, the Queen.”
“If you don’t hate me, why do you want to avoid me?”
“It’s not that I want to avoid Her Majesty.”
The queen came out from behind her desk, approached Maya, and said,
“You say you don’t want to avoid me, but you’re still leaving this land and going far away; in my opinion, you are running away from me.”
“I’m not running away, I just want to be with the man I love, nothing more.”
“Love is fleeting; stay and become my successor.”
“No, even if it’s fleeting, I choose love.”
“You resemble her a lot, you’re just as stubborn.”
“Your Majesty, even though I may resemble your daughter, I am not her.”
The queen went to the window. From there, she could see the Nula mountains and the Bross forest, with winged horses flying through the sky. It was a beautiful view. She gave a big sigh and said,
“Why is it that my whole family refuses to take my place? Is this place so bad?”
“It’s not bad, Your Majesty; on the contrary, it’s wonderful. To be honest, I will miss this place when I leave.”
“Then stay.”
“No, even though I love this place, I still wish to be with the man I love and have a family with him.”
“I hope you don’t ever regret your decision.”
“I won’t. After all, this is my decision.”
“So, have you come to say goodbye today?”
“No, actually I’ve come to ask for your help. It’s been a week and Abril is still feeling unwell.”
“So that’s it. Don’t worry, she will be fine.”
“She can’t eat anything without vomiting, she feels dizzy and weak. I don’t think she’ll be fine.”
“Given her condition, it’s completely normal.”
“In her condition? Is she sick?”
“No, she’s pregnant.”
“What?”
“But how?”

“By being with…”
“That’s not what I mean. I know how babies are made. What I mean is, she was unconscious for a while,
which means her pregnancy is recent. Why have her symptoms started so soon?”
“Not all pregnancies are the same; some don’t even show symptoms. But I think she will have a hard time
in the first few months.”
“Does Abril know yet?”
“I suppose not.”
“Then, how did Your Majesty know?”
“It’s because I have a great and sensitive magic. I notice things that others don’t.”
“But why didn’t you tell her?”
“I didn’t think it was necessary to say it.”
“She was fighting while pregnant, and you knew and said nothing?”
Maya shouted, very upset, but the fairy queen responded calmly.
“She was taking care of the wounded, not battling monsters.”
“Even so…”
“Maya, I understand your frustration, but I needed her. If she hadn’t intervened, most likely we would all be
dead.”
The fairy queen, seeing Maya’s clear discontent, said to her,
“I will go and see your friend and try to do something to ease her discomfort.”
Even though Maya was still upset with the fairy queen’s actions, she couldn’t refuse her help since it would
only harm Abril, so she swallowed her pride and said,
“Thank you for your kindness, Your Majesty.”
Maya left and went back to Abril. She was still very upset with the queen for putting Abril in danger, even
though she knew she was pregnant.
When Maya entered the room, she saw Cassian, who had come to check on her.
He approached, gave her a gentle kiss on the lips, and asked,
“Where were you?”
“I went to see the fairy queen.”
Cassian got a little nervous every time Maya met with the fairy queen. Maya noticed his discomfort and said,

“Don’t worry, I’m fine.”
“Are you sure she didn’t do anything? Didn’t she try to get you to stay?”
Before Maya could answer, the fairy queen entered the room and spoke for her.
“I tried, but she refused. She’s quite fixated on you.”
Cassian instinctively pulled Maya into a protective embrace.
The fairy queen walked past them without much notice and approached Abril.
“How are you holding up?”
Abril looked pale and haggard. She answered honestly,
“Not great, I think I’m still feeling the aftereffects of using my magic.”
“Actually, that’s not the case. Didn’t Maya tell you?”
Maya said,
“I just got here. I haven’t had a chance to tell her yet.”
“Then I’ll tell you. You’re not experiencing side effects from using your magic. You just used too much at
once, and it startled your baby. That’s why your pregnancy symptoms started early; it’s the baby’s way of
letting you know it’s there and that you need to take care of yourself.”
Abril couldn’t believe what the queen was telling her.
“What? I’m pregnant?”
“That’s right, you’re expecting a baby. Congratulations.”
Abril caressed her belly, feeling a wave of happiness. She wished she could return soon to share the good news with Alessandro, to tell him they were going to be parents.
