Cassian took Maya’s hand and asked her, “Are you thinking of going to Farell?”

“Don’t worry, I have a way to communicate with him; there’s no need for me to go personally.”

“I haven’t seen your brother in a long time. I hope he doesn’t hold a grudge against me.”

Maya didn’t respond to Cassian’s comment. He asked her, “Is your brother still mad at me?”

“Perhaps a little, but don’t worry, he’s not a violent person, or at least almost never.”

Cassian thought, It seems I’ll have to make an effort to make my brother–in–law accept me.

Cira was in her cave, surrounded by several of the monsters she had released from Hades. They had become her eyes and ears outside of that mountain, but since she hadn’t fully regained her power, a few monsters had broken free from her control, and she didn’t know their whereabouts. She just hoped it wouldn’t become a problem in the near future, at least until she recovered all her power.

The voice of the demon inside her spoke again in her head.

“Why don’t you let me take control? If you do, you will regain all your power and even more.”

“I already told you no.”

“Then go back to Laios. If you do, you will be able to absorb the energy overflowing from the crack that leads to Hades there.”

“Isn’t that the same as giving you control of my body?”

“Not exactly. Before, there were monsters and more princes and princesses of Hades who were looking for a physical body, but apparently, they are no longer there. If you go, there won’t be anything that wants to consume you.”

“Why aren’t they there?”

“I don’t know. I just know that they have left. I can feel it; they are in the depths of Hades. So why don’t you take this opportunity?”

“And how do I know you’re not tricking me?”

“If what I’m telling you were a lie, I would have said it a long time ago to make you go.”

“I’m too weak; I won’t be able to reach Lajos.”

“You just need to absorb the monsters here. That way, part of your power will be replenished, although I warn you it won’t be pleasant.”

Cira was tired of being trapped in darkness. Even if it was painful or unpleasant, she would try it. She would do anything to get out of that damn hole she was in.

“What do I have to do?”

“Just put your hand on them. I’ll do the rest.”

Cira did as he told her. She placed her hand on the closest creature and could feel how it started to absorb it. As she did, she felt something cold and dark entering under her skin and deep into her being. It caused her great pain; she let out a shriek. She felt as if her whole body was freezing and burning at the same time. It lasted for a while.

When the pain subsided, that voice in her head said, “I told you it wouldn’t be pleasant. You’ll need to absorb more than one if you want to reach Laios.”

Cira couldn’t. Her body still felt the pain. She shuddered at the mere thought of having to do it again. That voice in her head challenged her and said, “Will you give up?”

Cira wanted to do it, but she wouldn’t give up. She would leave that cave even if she had to go through it 100 times more. She wiped the tears of pain still running down her cheeks and said to herself, “I’ll do whatever it takes to get out of this place.”
