Sealing a Promise

Alessandro found the butler in the hallway and told him that Abril had already woken up and to bring her something light to eat.
Then he went to look for Sirius, who was in the library reading books, trying to find a way to help the princess. When he saw Alessandro, he was very surprised, since he hadn’t left the princess’s side at all since she had been asleep.
“Has something happened?”
“Abril has woken up.”
“That’s good news.”
“Yes, it is, although what she said left me a bit concerned.”
“And what did the princess say?”
“She already knows she possesses magic. She said her mother told her and gave her some earrings to help her control her magic until she knows how to do it.”
“It’s not really that strange. I’ve heard that sometimes if a wizard’s spirit is strong enough, it can continue to exist without a physical body. It all depends on how much mana the wizard has and if there’s something keeping them in this world.”
“Abril’s mother died when she was a baby.”
“Surely her spirit clung to her daughter; it’s not very strange, actually.”
“I’d like you to check on her and make sure everything is okay with her magic.”
“I will do so.”
When Alessandro returned to the room, he found Cassian keeping her company. Sirius approached the Princess and asked her, “How are you feeling, Princess?”
“Hungry.”
“Your food will be here soon. Be patient, they won’t take long,” Alessandro replied.
Sirius took the Princess’s hand, and after checking that her pulse was back to normal, he checked
that her magic was under control. He was very surprised to find that everything was fine.
“How is she?” Alessandro asked while looking at Abril.
“She’s fine, her magic is stable.”

Alessandro seemed relieved to hear Sirius confirm that Abril was okay.

Sirius felt out of place in that room, so he said to Cassian, “Prince Cassian, there’s something I’d like to discuss with you. Could we step out for a moment?”
“Of course.”
After Sirius and Cassian left, a maid entered with a tray of food. After delivering it, she left them
alone.
Alessandro took the spoon to feed her, but Abril said, “I can manage on my own.”
“I know, but I want to do it. Open your mouth.”
Abril obeyed and opened her mouth. Alessandro fed her as if she were a small child. When the soup was finished, he peeled an apple for her and cut it into pieces. While doing so, Alessandro asked her, “Did your mother tell you anything else about your magic?”
“Yes, she sealed my magic so my father wouldn’t use me as a weapon. She did it to protect me.”
When Abril said that, Alessandro felt miserable because he had thought of doing the same with her, using her to win the war. Abril continued speaking.
“Apparently, one of the seals has broken, which is why my magic went out of control.”
“How did one of the seals break?”
“I think it was when we made love. For a moment, our heartbeats became one. I think it was at that
moment.”
Abril took a piece of apple and put it in her mouth. Alessandro paused, trying to process what Abril was telling him.
She continued saying, “I always thought I was alone, but I was wrong. My mother has always been with me. I think that’s one of the reasons why, despite everything I went through when I was young, I didn’t die. She was taking care of me even when I couldn’t see her. You know, I had never seen my mother’s face because there was no portrait of her in the palace, but I could see her while I was unconscious. She was very beautiful, with blonde hair, as beautiful as threads of gold, and her eyes, I seem to have inherited them from her.”
Alessandro, seeing Abril so happy to have met her mother, said to her, “I’m so glad you got to meet
her.”
“I am too, and I’m glad my mother sealed my magic when I was born because if she hadn’t, my father would never have let me leave the kingdom of Laios. He thought he was getting rid of

Abril gave him a soft kiss on the lips and said, “That doesn’t matter anymore, because now I’m happy being by your side. I love you.”
“You love me?”
“Yes, I didn’t want to admit it because I was afraid that if I gave you my heart, I would end up hurt, but it’s useless to keep denying what I feel for you. I love you, Alessandro.”
Abril’s words were like daggers piercing Alessandro’s heart, making him feel happy and also miserable for everything he had done to her up to that moment. For having thought of her the same way King Venobich had, for not taking care of her and loving her as she deserved, he set aside the tray that was between them, took her face in his arms, kissed her, and then apologized.
“You are too good and kind; I’m not worthy of your love; I don’t deserve it.”
“Of course you are, and I’m happy that it is you. I’m happy to be your wife.” Abril asked him timidly, “Aren’t you happy that I love you?”
Alessandro pressed his forehead against Abril’s and, looking directly into her eyes, replied, “Of course I am. I’d be an i***t if I weren’t.”
Abril lifted her face, kissed him, and said, “Our marriage was something we were forced into, but it’s up to us how we live it, whether we’re happy or not. I’ve decided to give you my heart, I’ve decided to love you. What about you? Will you accept my feelings?”
Abril waited anxiously for Alessandro’s response. He kissed her and whispered between kisses.
“Yes, I choose to be with you, to love you, and to be happy by your side.”
Abril smiled, her smile was beautiful and full of happiness. Alessandro had never been in love, but he was sure that what he felt at that moment must be it. The happiness he felt seeing her smile, being by her side. She was beautiful, not only on the outside but also on the inside. With her light, she had broken down his walls and entered his heart. It was useless to keep denying what was so obvious. He was in love with her, which is why he had been so afraid of losing her, because he
loved her.
“I’ll take care of you, I’ll make you happy.”
“I want to make you happy too, and may our future be filled with happiness.”
“And there will be. I’ll make sure that we are very happy.”
Alessandro tucked a strand of hair behind her ear and said, “I promise to love you, protect you,
dream of you, live for you, do anything for you.”

Everything is Better When We’re Together
Despite having been sleeping for three days, Abril still felt drowsy. She gave a big yawn, and
Alessandro asked her.
“Are you okay?”
“Yes, I just feel a bit drowsy.”
Alessandro looked worried, and Abril told him.
“This time it’s just sleeping, my magic isn’t escaping.”
“Really?”
“Yes, now I can feel my magic, although I don’t know how to control it, but the earrings help me
with that.”
“How could your mother give you those earrings?”
