Forsaken by the Moon Goddess novel Chapter 30

Benedict

I’m flying so high I may never come down. I had the best date of my life, and I weaseled my way into seeing Sloane again tomorrow, in her new pack. I can’t wait to see how the pack members are responding to her. If they dốn’t know that she’s going to be their Alpha, I’m guessing they. aren’t really giving her a lot of time or attention. If they re smart, they won’t say anything that will get them kicked out when she takes over. Although, knowing Sloane, she wouldn’t do that… unless they said something to someone she loved.

I smile thinking about how protective she is of everyone around her. Sloane protects everyone, but who protects her?

‘We do,’ Marrok says.

‘Yeah, we do, Buddy!

When I get home, I’m still grinning from ear to ear when I step inside the packhouse.

“Incoming!” Bethany whispers and it’s the only warning have before my mother descends on me.

“How was your date, Benedict?” she hisses, somehow making ‘date’ sound like a despicable event.

“It was fantastic, mother. Thank you for asking,” I say, grinning at her. I watch her sourpuss mouth pucker.

Goddess, was she always like this?

“I’m assuming you got the slumming out of your system,” she snaps.

I whirl on her, releasing my aura out and using the strength of it to push her against the wall. “I have warned you multiple times to watch your mouth when it comes to Sloane Hartwell. What is it going to take for you to learn your lesson, mother?” I use the same disgusted tone she used when I call her mother.

“Bene, let her go,” Bethany says, tugging on my arm.

“What is the meaning of this!” my father booms from the doorway.

I whirl on him. “I warned you to keep you mate under control, Alpha,” I say, letting him know that I’m talking to him as one Alpha to another, not as father and son. “She nearly caused a rift between this pack and Alpha Roman’s.

Whatever her problem is with Sloane and Slade Hartwell, get it under control or I will,” I snarl, stepping up to my father and meeting him eye to eye, daring him to challenge me.

His lip curls and a low-level growl emits from his wolf, but he knows I’m right. My father could never withstand a war against Alpha Roman. And my mother has already offended him once.

“Beatrice, go to our room,” he says, not looking away from me.

“Benedict, you can’t be serious…” she begins.

He snarls, a sound much angrier than I’ve heard from him in the past. “NOW, Beatrice.”

When she passes by us, l ignore her, still facing off with my father.

“Do not speak to your mother like that again,” he growls.

“Don’t let her give me a reason to,” I growl back.

“Come on, Bene,” Bethany says, looping her arm through mine. She doesn’t try to pull me away, and I don’t move until my father looks away. He knows I’m right, but he also knows he’s no match for me if it comes to a battle.

When he looks away, I finally step around him, walking with Bethany up to our rooms. We’re quiet until we get to my room, then we walk in and I step away from Bethany, swiping my books and papers off my desk.

Bethany stays quiet, letting me have my moment to vent.

I take a deep breath, then scrub my hands over my face.

“Thanks, Beth,” I say.

“Are you okay?” she asks.

“There’s something there, Bethany. There’s a reason she’s so against Sloane and Slade,” I say. “Like what?” she asks.

“I don’t know. You’re the one who gets the insider information,” I say, turning and smiling at my sister.

“Well, don’t think that’s not why I’m here. I want the tea, brother dear. Spill.”

I grin at my sister. She may be the only person I trust to talk with about my date with Sloane.

“It was awesome,” I whisper.

“Yeah?” she asks, walking into my room and sitting on my loveseat.

“Yeah. And, by the way, she compared you to Scarlet.”

“What? Why? How?”

” mentioned that you’re fourteen going on thirty. She laughed and said you’re hilarious and that you remind her of Scarlet. How about that?” I say, falling onto the loveseat beside her.

“Wow, I’had no idea she thought so highly of me.”

“Sloane’s smart. She recognizes intelligence and compassion, and she appreciates it.”

Bethany begins fanning herself. “I feel so seen, and loved,” she says dramatically, making me snort. “Seriously, though, Bene. I’ve never seen you with the look on your face that you had when you got home. I was sodisappointed that mom was about to ruin it.”

“She didn’t ruin it. Nothing could ruin the fantastic night had. Honestly, Beth, it was the best night of my life.”

Bethany continues pacing. “Besides the fact that mom will shit a fucking brick when she finds out, Benedict, have you considered what will happen if Sloane IS your fated mate?”

The thought did occur to me. copied from j-o-b-n-ib-.c-om It’s why 1 pushed the boyfriend/girlfriend relationship now. I’m hoping that having a couple of weeks before her birthday will give me time to convince her that we should be together. I have no idea what that means if we are both Alphas of our own packs, but I have time to research it.

“don’t know yet, Beth. But I do know that I’ll figure it out.

I want her. Marrok wants her. We’ll figure something out.

We always do.”

She turns and looks at me. “If anyone can, it’s you, Benedict.”

And this is one of the many reasons that I love my sister so much.

“Are you seeing her again?” she asks, sitting back down.

“Of course, she and I are boyfriend and girlfriend now,” I say, grinning.

My sister smacks me hard enough to remind me that, while she’s younger than I am, she’s still an Alpha.

“And you didn’t think that was important information to tell me? What do you think ‘spill the tea’ meansBenedict?” she hisses.

“I told you about her being Waylon’s heir. I thought that was pretty good tea, Bethany,” I say, wrapping my arm around her neck and pulling her into a hug.

“Boyfriend and girlfriend is almost better. When are you seeing her again?”

“Tomorrow night,” I say, grinning.

She shoves me off her, then stares at me. “In Alpha Waylon’s pack?”

“That’s where she’s going to be,” I say, still grinning at how managed to get myself another date this weekend.

“Holy shit. You’re going to make it public?” she asks.

“If anyone hasn’t heard by Monday morning, they’ll know when I walk into campus and kiss Sloane in front of the entire student body.” 1

She smiles slowly, then raises her hand in a high five. ” Damn, my brother, you sure know how to make a statement.”

I slap her hand. “You’re damn fucking right I do.”
