Scarlet
I can t believe that I’m going to be Sloane’s Beta. I’m so excited. Graduation can’t come soon enough. I can’t WAIT to see that asshole Gabriel’s face when I challenge him for the position of Beta. He is so unworthy of that title
But, all of that has to wait. Sloane hasn’t told Alpha Waylon and Luna Judith that she accepts her position as their heir, so she certainly hasn’t told them about me yet.
And since she’s out schmoozing with BWFive tonight, I get to show up early to the pack and see what gossip I can find out for her. I’m sure slimy Gabriel will try to stick his nasty tongue down my throat again. Eww.
I sigh. I really was hoping that Will was my mate. But he’s not, and I have to let that go. It’s not easy, but I want my fated mate. As great as Will is, there’s a reason the Moon Goddess chooses your mate for you. He may be amazing, and I know he’s perfect for someone, but he’s not perfect for ME. I’m not so arrogant that I think I know better than the Moon Goddess. But that doesn’t mean I’m not disappointed. I was so positive that we were mates, that I never really paid attention to anyone else.
As I pull up to Alpha Waylon’s pack lands, I realize it doesn’t matter if I had paid attention. I obviously haven’t met my mate at school. I haven’t met him in my pack or Sloane’s, so who knows where he will be. Alpha Roman didn’t meet Luna Samara until he was in his mid-twenties.He tells anyone who asks that it was worth every minute he was alone to have Samara in his life now. So, I will be patient. I will trust the Moon Goddess, and I will wait.
1 pull up to the packhouse and wave at Alpha Waylon and Luna Judith who are waiting for me. Davina starts shifting around in my head, but she’s not acting concerned, so l step out of the car and grab my bag.
“Hi!” I say as Davina starts trying to push forward.
Davina, what are you doing?’
She doesn’t answer me, but she doesn’t settle either.
‘Is something wrong?’ I ask her.
‘No. I don’t know, she says.
“Is everything okay?” I ask Alpha Waylon as I walk up to them.
“Yes, of course. We’re glad you’re here. We were hoping we you’d want to have dinner…”
I spin around as the scent of dark honey and tobacco fills my nose. It smells rich and earthy and delicious.
I drop my bag as Davina begins growling.
“Beta Scarlet?” Alpha Waylon says.
I ignore him as the scent gets stronger.
When he races around the side of the packhouse, I stop. Ican’t believe it. I HAVE met him. Ljust wasn’t eighteen yet.
“Mate!” he growls.
“Mate!” Davina says and leaps at him, wrapping our body around him and shredding his clothes as his mouth finds ours in a passionate, dominating kiss.
He growls possessively and so does Davina. It takes me a moment to realize he’s walking us inside.
“Do I need to worry that you don’t want this?” he says, as l nip at his throat.
“Does it seem like I don’t want this?” I growl, ripping what’s left of his shirt off.
He growls an even more possessive growl. “Then you’re mine, Scarlet.”
“And you’re mine, Daniel.”
Sloane POV
“Scarlet met her mate? Who?” I ask, frowning.
“Daniel,” Grandpa Waylon says.
I frown. “Why is that a problem?”
“Well, it was more that we weren’t sure that he gave her time to agree to the mate bond. They sort of… attacked each other,” Grandma Judith says.
I snort. “Well, that sounds like Scarlet.””Wasn’t she hopeful that Alpha Will would be her mate?”
Grandpa Waylon asks.
“She was, but she also has faith in the Moon Goddess and the mate bond. Where is she now?” I ask.
“Uh, they haven’t left Daniel’s room since she got here.”
“Perfect, ‘ll see you tomorrow,” he says and he hops in his car, turning it on and revving it loudly before grinning and pulling away.
“Do you want me to block him from crossing our packlands, Sloane,” Grandpa Waylon asks as I watch Benedict drive off.
“No, it’s okay.”
“Perhaps we should talk,” my grandfather says.
I wait until I can’t see Benedict any longer. Then I tyrn to look at my grandparents.
“Yes. I think we need to talk.”
I follow them to Grandpa Waylon’s office, nodding and saying hello to the pack members as I walk through the packhouse. I notice Gabriel and Jack, Waylon’s Beta and Gamma, sitting together and talking quietly among
– themselves. I wonder if they’ve finally started to figure it out. Even if they have, it’s too late. They’ll both be demoted in a couple of weeks.
I step into my grandfather’s office and he closes the door.
“I hope you’re going to give me good news, Sloane,
Grandpa Waylon says.
I turn and look at my grandparents. “If by good news you mean that I accept your offer to take my place as the heir of this pack, then yes. I have very good news.”
My grandfather nearly collapses into himself. I rush forward to help him, but instead, he wraps his arms around me.
“Thank you. Thank you so much, Sloane.”I look at my grandmother, but she’s watching my grandfather. I wrap my arms around him and wait until he’s gotten control of his emotions.
“Well, I guess that makes it better that your friend Scarlet is going to be living here,” he says.
“Oh, Scarlet isn’t just going to be living here. She’s going to be my Beta,” I say, watching as both of my grandparents turn to stare at me with looks of total disbelief on their face.
