Near the end of the workday, Maggie’s phone rang,

This time, it was a message from Nolan.

“Monday, 2 a.m. Get ready.”

Seeing Nolan’s message didn’t surprise Maggie at all.

Franklin had been busy lately. She assumed he wouldn’t reply until the next day.

Unexpectedly, his response came almost immediately.

“Okay. I know.”

He didn’t mention a single word about when he’d be back in the U.S.

After that, there were no more messages.

Early Monday morning, Maggie went to the base.

Just as she’d expected, she wrapped up most of the work there within a week. However, something unexpected came up at the base, and she ended up staying an extra three or four days.

When she finally returned from the base to the city, she realized Franklin had sent her several messages.

The earliest one was from a week ago.

“I’m back in the U.S.”

She hadn’t replied. Franklin didn’t contact her again over the next two days.

“I’m heading to Los Angeles tomorrow for a business trip.”

The most recent message was from yesterday.

“I’m going to Dallas at noon tomorrow.”

After reading them, Maggie took a deep breath.

Tomorrow was the last day of their cooling off period.

She didn’t reply to the messages. Instead, she called Franklin directly.
