Chapter 633: She Wasn’t Invited
That afternoon, once the tournament wrapped up, Franklin called. “All done? How’d it go?”
Isabella was already drinking from her water bottle, practically glowing. “First place! I made it to the next round!”
“Nice work.” Franklin laughed, then added, “Your grandpa’s home now. Come back to your great–grandma’s tonight for dinner.”
“Got it!” Isabella said.
They didn’t talk long. She hung up pretty quickly.
Afterward, Isabella turned to Maggie. “Mom, Dad wants us to come over to Great–grandma’s for dinner tonight. Let’s go, we can head over now.”
Isabella had been on speaker the whole time, so Maggie had heard every word. Franklin had told Isabella to come back to the house. He hadn’t
told her to bring Maggie along.
If he’d meant for Maggie to come too, he would’ve said something like “bring your mom with you.” But he hadn’t mentioned her at all.
“Mom has other plans tonight,” Maggie said. “You go ahead without me.”
Isabella was a little bummed, but she didn’t push it. “Should I just call Dad to come pick me up?”
“Go for it.”
Isabella called Franklin back and told him. “Got it,” he said.
He said he’d handle it, but he didn’t come himself. The one who showed up to take Isabella back was her driver.
Isabella had made it to the next round, so there was another match the following day.
Maggie figured Franklin would be the one going with her, but that evening Isabella turned up at the Miller house again. “Dad’s busy tomorrow. Can you come to my match, Mom? Please?”
Maggie had actually planned to meet with a client alongside Johnny the next morning, but hearing that, she said yes without hesitating and stepped away to call him.
“Johnny, Isabella made it to the next round and has another match tomorrow. I need to be there with her in the morning, so I won’t be able to make the client meeting.”
Johnny wasn’t exactly Isabella’s biggest fan, but Maggie was being a mom and that was that. He wasn’t going to give her a hard time about it. “Don’t worry about it, I can handle it solo. Go be with the kid.”
Then, almost as an afterthought: “But why are you always the one taking her to these things lately? Where’s Franklin?”
“Heard he has something going on tomorrow.”
Johnny’s expression said everything, but he let it go. They chatted for another minute, then hung up.
The next morning, right as Isabella was getting ready to compete, Johnny sent Maggie a photo.
In it were Franklin and Julia, along with a few people Maggie didn’t recognize. From the clothes and the background, it was pretty clear they were all at a golf course.
A second message came right after: “Just caught a few words with some of the people who came with Franklin. Apparently Wilson Tech recently

hit a new tech breakthrough and they’re in the middle of developing a new module. Franklin set up today’s round to help them attract
investors.”
So the thing Franklin had been “busy” with was Julia.
Maggie got what Johnny was implying.
She read it and typed back: “Noted.”
Johnny was genuinely irritated. He pocketed his phone, and when he spotted Franklin starting to walk over like he was about to say hi, he let his expression go flat, made a point of looking the other way, and turned to the people beside him. “Come on, let’s head to the other side.”
Everyone around them could tell Johnny was blanking Franklin on purpose. It was awkward enough that nobody quite knew what to do.
Franklin just smiled a little, didn’t push it, and turned to the group he’d been hoping to introduce to Johnny. “You all go ahead. We’ll find
another time to talk.”
The other guys visibly relaxed. They nodded at Franklin and followed after Johnny.
