She still couldn’t figure out why Julian was so obsessed with her health. Didn’t he realize that the heavy bleeding yesterday–right after he’d basically forced those supplements down her throat–might’ve actually been caused by all the “nourishing” stuff she’d been consuming during her heat?
Seeing that she genuinely wasn’t going to eat anymore, Julian didn’t push it. He just finished off everything she’d left on her plate.
After the meal, Julian was about to take Lillian and leave when Iris suddenly wheeled herself out in her chair.
“Lillian, wait,” Iris called after her.
Lillian stopped and turned, her gaze flat and cold as it landed on Iris.
Iris shifted uncomfortably under that look, but she couldn’t afford to back down now. If her mom had sent Marcus to track Lillian down, it had to mean her business on the Western Continent was in serious trouble.
That proud female Alpha would never swallow her pride otherwise.
Iris‘ stomach tightened. If Lillian left now and Marcus couldn’t find her later… No, she needed to stall her. Buy some time.
Lillian raised an eyebrow. “What?”
‘Can we talk?” Iris kept her voice soft, trying to sound reasonable.
Lillian’s eyelids lifted just slightly, and the look she gave Iris turned even icier–the kind of cold that crawled right under your skin.
Julian’s expression darkened too. “You’ve got nothing to talk about.”
He took Lillian’s hand, ready to walk.
Yeah, Iris had spent the last six months playing the part of the fragile, depressed Omega. Ever since she’d bonded with Ethan, she’d acted like the perfect sister–in–law.
But Julian had never cared about any of that–good or bad, it wasn’t his business.
Lillian and Iris hadn’t exactly parted on great terms. So what the hell did Iris want to “talk” about now?
And Lillian wasn’t exactly easy to calm down these days. Julian wasn’t about to let anyone mess things up between them again.
Just as he started pulling Lillian away, Iris‘ voice came again from behind.
“My mom–she just cares about me too much. If she crossed a line because of that, can you just let it go?”
Lillian and Julian both stopped.
Julian’s jaw tightened.
Crossed a line? That was what she called what happened yesterday at Inkwood Gardens?

Cold fury rolled off him in waves, but before he could speak, Lillian had already turned back.
“If I drained half the blood from your body, would you just ‘let it go‘ too?”
Iris went pale.
Her lips parted, but no words came out. Under Lillian’s sharp stare, she couldn’t find her voice at all.
Lillian gave a short, humorless laugh and started to turn away.

‘Then come after me!” Iris‘ voice cracked, desperate now. “If you’ve got a problem, take it out on me. Just–please–leave my mom
out of it.”
Panic clawed at her chest. Her mom’s business couldn’t fail. If it collapsed, her standing in the Graves Pack would crumble.
ris knew exactly why Eleanor, her mother–in–law, treated her so well: it was because her own mother was a powerful female Alpha. Her status, her influence–it all depended on those exports to the Western Continent.
f that got cut off completely, she’d be nothing in the Graves Pack. Eleanor might act like she adored her, but Iris wasn’t stupid. She <new how pragmatic Eleanor really was.
Lillian let out a cold laugh. “Nervous now?
‘Funny. Weren’t you the one throwing your weight around before, hiding behind your rich, powerful Alpha mother?”
That had always been Iris‘ biggest shield. Her mother. Margaret.
And Lillian’s move right now? Yeah, on the surface it looked like she was going after the Graves Pack. But the real target was Margaret. That was where Iris‘ real wound was, and Lillian knew it.
ris flinched. “I—”
‘You gonna say you didn’t? That I’m just crazy, going after you and your mom for no reason?”
‘No, that’s not what I-”
‘So you did do it?”
ris‘ mouth opened, then closed.
Lillian had her cornered, and there was nowhere to go.
Luckily, Marcus appeared right then.
Margaret had been looking for Lillian since last night. Whatever was going on with the Western Continent, it had her desperate
Compared to yesterday at Inkwood Gardens, Marcus‘ attitude had done a complete one–eighty
