Chapter 109 Departure and New Schemes
Third–Person POV:
Margaret’s voice dripped with contempt.
Then she added, “A gutter bird who thinks she’s something just because she landed on a high branch.”

She’d originally been willing to have a proper conversation with Lillian. But after seeing Lillian’s attitude, Margaret decided there was nothing left to discuss.
Iris nodded along. In her mind, Lillian was exactly that–a gutter bird who thought she could be something more just because she’d gotten lucky.
Margaret glanced at her daughter. “Keep pushing Hilda’s situation. We need that bond locked in as soon as possible.”
No matter what, they had to cut the connection between Lillian and Finn. Without Finn backing her, Margaret refused to believe Lillian could keep acting so high and mighty.
ris nodded. “I know.”
Hilda had already agreed to go after Finn. As long as she was willing to lower herself, Iris was sure the bond would happen soon enough.
‘Don’t worry, Mom. It’ll happen. And once it does, we’ll tear Lillian apart.”
ris‘ voice turned venomous.
Every piece of gossip she’d endured in Gilneas City over the past few days replayed in her mind. All she wanted now was Lillian dead. But with Finn protecting her, it was complicated. So first, they needed to get Hilda and Finn together. Everything else came
after.
Margaret gave a short nod, then turned to Marcus. “Get ready. We’re heading to the Western Continent.”
Marcus nodded, though concern flickered in his eyes. “But Simon’s still in Julian’s hands.”
The mention of Simon made Margaret’s expression darken even more.
ris‘ face soured at the name too.
Mother and daughter exchanged a look.
Margaret’s gaze hardened. “I know you hold a lot of resentment toward Simon. But I’m leaving for the Western Continent now. Simon is your responsibility.”
‘Mine?” Iris‘ chest tightened at the words.
Margaret’s tone was sharp. “Who else? If I stay in Gilneas City negotiating Simon’s release with Julian, our entire Western Continent operation collapses. And without that, your status as the Hayes Pack’s little princess won’t mean a thing.
“You think Eleanor would let you have an easy time in the Graves Pack it that happens?”
Iris went quiet.

Of course not.
Her position in the Graves Pack all these years had depended entirely on having a powerful Alpha mother backing her. Iris understood that better than anyone.
She weighed the options in her head, then finally nodded. “I’ll talk to Julian.”
“Talking isn’t enough. You need to get Simon back from him.”
Margaret’s voice carried the full weight of Alpha authority now. Under that pressure, Iris nodded reluctantly.
“Don’t worry. I’ll get him out.”
Margaret couldn’t see any path forward with Lillian.
Even though she was barely holding herself together, bruised and barely able to move, she had no choice but to head for the Western Continent.
Julian had brought Lillian straight back to Laurel Manor. He’d had Thomas deliver all the documents there. If meetings were necessary, they’d handle them by video call.
Clearly, Lillian’s insistence on dissolving their mate bond had pushed him to the edge.
Lillian was completely drained.
Back at Laurel Manor, knowing it was pointless to fight Julian’s control, she just went to sleep.
George called. Lillian kept her voice low. “Don’t try to reach me for a few days. I don’t want him finding out about my brother.”
Right now, Julian still believed George was connected to Finn. Lillian felt guilty about that–dragging Finn into her mess.
But she didn’t have a choice. She couldn’t afford to bring the Langley Pack into this. Julian was unpredictable enough as it was.
George said, “Got it.”
Lillian added, “Let my brother know. I’m hanging up now.”
The door opened just as she ended the call.
Julian stood in the doorway, holding a bowl of soup. His deep, unreadable eyes fixed on her face.
His gaze was too intense–like staring into deep water with no way to see the bottom.
Lillian frowned. “What now? Gonna pour another bowl down my throat and send me back to the hospital?”
Julian ignored the sarcasm, walking over to sit on the edge of the bed. “Relax. The nutritionist made this. It’s to help you recover.”
“Recover for my period?”
Lillian raised an eyebrow, her gaze turning even more mocking.
