Chapter 188 One Call
Chapter 138 One Call
Third–Person POV:
Just as Julian was about to grit out something else, his phone rang
Iris‘ name lit up the screen.
The moment he saw it, Lillian caught it too.
Julian hung up immediately.
Lillian raised an eyebrow at him. “Living peacefully? You still think that’s possible?”
That Iris, as far as Lillian was concerned, was seriously twisted.
Back when she’d married into the Graves Pack, it probably wasn’t just Ethan she’d had feelings for.
She’d wanted Julian too.
Otherwise, what other reason could there be for losing that first pup?

Thinking about it now, the only thing that made sense was that she’d been into both brothers from the start.
He’d barely hung up when the hospital called again.
Lillian’s voice went cold. “Answer it. Either Iris is dying, or the pup is.”
Hearing that, Julian’s temples throbbed even harder.
This woman’s mouth was vicious these days.
Julian finally let go of her waist.
He stepped aside and took the call. “I already told you–if there’s a problem, treat it. Stop calling me about it.”
Lillian couldn’t stand anything involving Iris or her pup anymore.
So he’d made it clear to the hospital earlier.
No matter what happened to the pup, the answer was simple: save it.
And Iris—he’d been keeping his distance from her lately.

James was the specialist the hospital had recommended. They said only him had a real shot at saving the pup.
The pup was too small.
And the condition was complicated. No one else felt confident attempting the surgery,
But with James, they might not even need to operate,
Hearing they needed to find James, Julian pinched the bridge of his nose. “I’ve already got people looking. It’s not gonna happen overnight
It was his brother’s pup. Of course he cared.
But some things took time–especially with someone as notoriously difficult as James. First they had to find him. Then they had to convince him.
Every step took time.
“We need to move faster. The boy’s condition is getting worse.”
Julian nodded, “Got it.”
In the background, Iris‘ cries grew louder, more desperate.
Julian hung up.
When he turned around, Lillian was gone from the doorway.
Julian let out a bitter laugh. “Unbelievable.”
One phone call, and she was already this worked up.
And she claimed she didn’t have feelings for him anymore? Getting upset over a call about Iris said otherwise.
All this drama…
If she really wanted to break the bond that badly why did she still care? The feelings were obviously still there.
Julian walked inside.

He found Helen asking Lillian what she wanted for dinner. Lillian’s response was flat. “I don’t trust anything from the Graves Pack kitchen anymore.”
After Catherine had sent someone to poison her yesterday, who knew who might try something today?
Living in a pack like this was just asking for trouble.
Lillian leaned back on the couch, her tone indifferent. “Besides, I ate plenty at lunch. I’m not hungry.”
The words “ate plenty at lunch” made Julian’s expression darken instantly.
Lunch. With Finn.
Just how much had Finn fed her that she could say she “wasn’t hungry” now?
“So. You had a good time eating with Finn?”
Julian strode over and dropped onto the couch beside her. Before she could move, he pulled her onto his lap and wrapped his arms around her, trapping her there.
Lillian struggled on instinct.
“Let me go!”
Julian’s voice dropped low against her ear. “Tell me. Did eating with Finn make you happy?”
Lillian was so furious she wanted to slap him again.
But Julian had taken enough hits today. He caught her wrist before she could.
“You know I can’t bring myself to hurt you, so you think you can do whatever you want?”
His tone was light, but there was something dangerous underneath.
Anyone else who’d slapped him like that would’ve been destroyed by now.
