When she said that, Iris broke down completely, tears flooding her cheeks.

Her remark about “never having had a pup, so she doesn’t know how to raise one” struck Julian like a sharp blow to the temple.

He snapped, “Enough!”

Iris‘ sobbing cut off abruptly.

She stared at him, choked up, unable to hold back the tears no matter how hard she tried.

Eleanor’s breath grew ragged and uneven. “Why are you shouting? Did we say anything untrue? Who else would take the pup besides Lillian?

“Your brother is gone. If anything happens to that pup while it’s with her, none of us will want to go on living.”

Eleanor began crying too.

With the pup missing, it felt as if her whole world were crumbling.

She still hadn’t recovered from losing her son six months ago. Now, if she lost her granddaughter as well.

She would never be able to face Ethan’s memory. She wouldn’t want to live.

Julian shut his eyes briefly.

Eleanor insisted, “No matter what, we must make sure she doesn’t harm the pup. Whatever she wants, we’ll give it to her.”

“Now you’re willing to give in?”

Julian shot her a cold look.

Just then, one of the security team called out, “We found something. This person took the pup.”

All eyes turned to the monitor screen.

The footage showed a tall man in a baseball cap carrying the pup away.

Even with the cap on-

It didn’t fully conceal his face. From what was visible, he appeared to be a Draenei.

Eleanor said, “A Draenei?”

Hearing the word, Julian stiffened.

Something seemed to shatter inside his mind at that moment.

Iris‘ voice trembled. “A Draenei? Isn’t that the one who works for Lillian…”

She trailed off mid–sentence, then looked at Julian with tear–filled eyes.

Eleanor put it together instantly. “See? I told you it was Lillian. You didn’t believe me. It’s her.

“She had a Draenei with her before. It really is her. What does she even want?”

As the Draenei’s face appeared on screen, all Julian could hear were Eleanor’s accusations and Iris‘ weeping.

Because the one who took the pup was a Draenei, Lillian was immediately assumed to be behind it.

Iris said, “I’m calling the police. I’m calling them right now.”

She pulled out her phone, hands shaking as she tried to dial.

But before she could finish, someone snatched the phone from her grip.

It was Julian.

Iris stared up at him, trembling. “Julian, my daughter is going to die. She was taken by someone who doesn’t know the first thing about raising pups. She really will die.”

“I already alerted the police before I arrived.”

“I will give you a clear answer about whether she took the pup or not.”

She reached for her own phone to make the call, but Julian took it from her before she could dial.

Eleanor glared at him, furious. “What are you doing?”

“If it was truly her, I will bring the pup back myself.”

He bit out each word, hard and deliberate.

Eleanor’s chest tightened. “You’re still protecting her?

“This is not the time for you to shield her,” Eleanor shouted.

Before Julian could respond, she went on, “That pup isn’t even a month old, and she’s been missing for hours.

“Julian, if that pup dies, how will you ever face your brother?

Eleanor was completely unraveling now, genuinely terrified that something might happen to the pup.
