The surveillance footage clearly showed a Draenei taking the pup–but it wasn’t the same one who used to work for Lillian.
Then why would a Draenei be involved?
Wasn’t this supposed to be about her?
He took another long drag from his cigarette, the ember glowing briefly in the dim light. “If that pup isn’t back at the hospital by dawn,” he said, voice low, “I’m turning everything over to the enforcers.”
Lillian’s eyes narrowed. “What are you saying? You’d send me to the cages yourself?”
Hearing him threaten to involve the pack enforcers–and the cold certainty in his tone–was nothing short of a warning. He was pushing her, trying to force her to return the pup.
She let out a dry, humorless laugh. “If I had taken that pup, don’t you think I would’ve used her to get what I want? You know exactly what I’m after.”
Julian said nothing.
Severing the bond–that was Lillian’s only goal.
If she really had the pup, the first thing she would’ve done was threaten him with it to break their tie.
But she hadn’t.
For a moment, seeing the resolve in her eyes, Julian hesitated.
Then he remembered: her miscarriage had been real.
If she blamed Iris for that, taking the pup wouldn’t be beyond her.
Lillian held his gaze, speaking each word deliberately. “Did I use the pup to threaten you?”
Julian remained quiet.
“No,” she continued. “I didn’t. So why would I take her? To raise her myself?”
Her voice turned icy. “I’m not that generous. I wouldn’t raise Iris‘ pup even if you paid me. I wouldn’t take in that pup any sooner than I’d raise a stray mutt.”
Her hatred for Iris ran that deep.
Even if the pup was innocent, Lillian’s loathing extended to anything connected to her.
When Julian heard her say she wouldn’t raise Iris‘ pup “any sooner than a stray mutt“, something tightened in his chest.

The figure in the footage wore a baseball cap; it was hard to make out clearly. It was a Draenei, but not necessarily Lillian’s.
“The one in the video had a cap on,” Julian admitted roughly. “It wasn’t easy to tell if it was your former worker.”
“So you’re not even sure it’s someone who worked for me,” Lillian said coldly. “Then why are you interrogating me?”
“Who else could it be?” Julian fired back.
The room fell into heavy silence.
Who else could it be?
So anytime something happened to Iris, it had to be Lillian’s fault.
Exhaustion settled over her. She didn’t want to fight about this anymore.
Turning away, she walked to the couch and sank into it, falling into total silence.
Seeing her like that made Julian restless. “You want the bond ended, don’t you?”
Lillian looked up slowly.
“Return the pup,” he said, each word deliberate. “Then we’ll end it.”
