Chapter 178 The Death of the Pup

ThirdPerson POV:

Eleanor was shouting, her voice shrill and venomous. “A woman as wretched as you deserves to be orphaned! Who knows–maybe your own rotten heart is what cursed your whole family to die!”

“And that pup of yours–it probably died because of the evil inside you. You’re just-”

“Slap”

A sharp crack cut through the heated air.

The sting bloomed across Eleanor’s cheek at the same moment her wrist was abruptly released. Off–balance, she stumbled and fell hard onto the floor.

The room fell into stunned silence.

Elear or clutched her face, staring up at Lillian in disbelief. “You… you hit me?

“Lillian, have you lost your mind? I’m your mother–in–law!”

Her whole body trembled with fury. She couldn’t process it–Lillian had actually slapped her.

At the sound of the impact, Julian shot up from the couch. His gaze locked onto Lillian, cold and hardened.

Lillian stood her ground, eyes like ice, fists clenched at her sides.

She looked down at Eleanor and spoke slowly, each word deliberate. “Mother–in–law? Did you forget? You were the one who always called me a ‘low–born Omega from some orphanage.

“And now you expect me to mind my manners and just take your abuse?”

Family had always been her deepest wound, ever since childhood. All those years in the system, she’d ached for a family of her own. And as for pups….

The loss of her pup was exactly what had driven the recent wedge between her and Julian.

She’d failed to protect her own child. The guilt ate at her, the self–blame, the desperate urge to escape the suffocating drama of the Graves Pack. And now Eleanor was throwing the pup in her face?

Someone was jabbing at her most raw, tender pain–and all that was left was Lillian’s defensive armor, sharp and unforgiving

Eleanor spat out, “Was I wrong? For all we know, your family and your pup died because you brought this curse on them. They’re dead because of you. They deserved-”

Before she could finish, Lillian snatched the nearest object a stainless steel insulated lunchbox and hurted it straight at Eleanor

Julian moved fast, blocking its path. It missed Eleanor but struck the floor beside her head with a heavy thud, loud enough to make her ears ring.

Eleanor went pale. Her hand shook as she pointed at Lillian. “You’re insane. You’ve lost it. You’re just a

Lillian had snapped, pushed beyond her limits.

Ever since reuniting with her brother and father, “family” had become her line in the sand. And the pup… that was a wound that hadn’t healed.

Eleanor, meanwhile, was convinced Lillian was responsible for the pup’s disappearance and was spiraling out of control.

Lillian grabbed a dining chair, lifting it-

But Julian wrapped his arms around her from behind, pulling her back. “Enough!”

Eleanor scrambled up from the floor, shrieking, “Julian!”

“Shut up!” Julian roared back.

The ar grew thick, charged with the hostility radiating from all three of them.
