From Betrayed Luna to Wolf Queen (Lillian) novel Chapter 180

Eleanor was already heading up the stairs again, intent on grabbing more of Lillian’s belongings to toss out onto the lawn. But just as her foot touched the first step, she froze at the sound of Lillian’s calm voice speaking into the receiver.

“I’d like to report a crime. Early this morning, I filed a missing persons report for a pup. We’ve just received confirmation that the pup is deceased.”

A brief pause.

“Yes, that’s correct. The pup was killed by the abductors.”

Eleanor stood speechless.

Julian was equally silent.

When it came to the pup, Iris would never have dared to involve the police herself. She’d only had the nerve to cry to Julian and Eleanor, hoping to turn them against Lillian.

Truth be told, she probably would have eventually called the cops… but right now, her only thought was how to use the tragedy to destroy Lillian in the eyes of the pack. Calling the authorities hadn’t even crossed her mind.

And now, Lillian had done it for her.

Lillian exchanged a few more words with the dispatcher before ending the call.

Eleanor was breathing heavily, her face flushed with rage. “You called the police? What gives you the right? You’re the one who took that pup! You’re the one who killed her!”

‘Don’t have the right?” Lillian replied coolly. “Well, someone had to do it. Since all of you seemed to have forgotten, I thought I’d help out. No good deed goes unpunished, I guess.”

The phrase good deed made Eleanor so furious she felt like she could spit blood.

Who wanted this kind of “help“?

She didn’t want it at all. Her poor granddaughter had only been in this world for a few days, and now she was gone

Lillian watched the naked hatred contort Eleanor’s features and said, “So, in your mind, I’m responsible for the pup’s death. I also struck you today. I assume there won’t be any… objections… to me severing the mate bond with your son?”

“Get out!” Eleanor screamed, her voice trembling with fury. “Get out of this house right now!”

How dare she be the one to bring up severing the bond? Who did she think she was? If anyone was going to end it, the Graves Pack would be the ones to do it. They would be the ones to reject her.

What gave her the right to say it first?

Lillian’s gaze shifted to Julian.

Then she said, her tone flat, “And you were about to hit me, too.”

Julian said nothing.

His expression was icy, anger simmering beneath the surface.

He was the one who should be outraged, but hearing Lillian state it so coldly….

It felt like a hand had reached into his chest and clenched his heart.

Just as Lillian turned to leave, Julian’s voice cut through the tension, cold and sharp. “Wait.”

Lilliar paused but didn’t turn around. “What?”

“What are you doing? Let her go!” Seeing Julian rise as if to block Lillian’s path, Eleanor became even more unhinged.

Julian moved forward, placing himself directly in front of Lillian. Without looking at his mother, he said, his voice low and dangerous, “Leave. Now.”

“Julian, what is wrong with you? Your brother’s pup is dead, and you’re still protecting her?”

Almost instinctively, he reached out, his fingers moving to trace the mark on Lillian’s face.

But Lillian stepped back immediately, without a moment’s hesitation.

She looked at him with cold, detached eyes. That silent, deliberate distance made the emptiness inside Julian yawn even wider.

“Was it really you?” Julian finally asked, his voice hoarse.

Somewhere deep down, a small, stubborn part of him still resisted the belief.

He didn’t want to believe that the Omega he’d chosen as his mate against everyone’s warnings could be capable of such cruelty.

But if not her… then who?

Lillian watched the conflict flicker in Julian’s eyes and said tonelessly, “You have to trust your own judgment.”

That single sentence, delivered without a shred of warmth, pushed Julian’s already wavering conviction over the edge into a dark abyss.

“You…” he began, but words failed him.

Lillian continued, speaking slowly and deliberately, “In this world, you might not be able to trust anyone else… but you have to trust yourself.”

Her words were measured, each one dropping like a stone.

The sarcasm laced beneath her tone was biting, though Julian, in his turmoil, failed to catch it in that moment.

The look in his eyes toward Lillian shifted, hardening into something cold and resolute.

Seemingly guided by her own words, he now fully believed–she had taken the pup. And she had killed her.
