Julian closed his eyes for a moment, then opened them–a quiet decision settling in his gaze. He pulled out his phone and said to Lillian, his voice low and final, “If that’s how it’s going to be, don’t blame me for what happens next.”

As he spoke, Lillian watched him tap the emergency number into the screen.

He was really going through with it–calling the cops after everything.

Just before he could press call, Lillian’s phone buzzed in her hand.

A text from George flashed. “Miss, I’m parked outside. Should I come in and get you?”

“No.”

She typed back quickly, then slipped her phone into her jacket pocket.

When she looked up again, Julian still hadn’t dialed.

But in every way that mattered, he already had.

Lillian turned away from him and headed straight for the front door.

As she passed, Julian caught her wrist. His grip was firm, tense. “If you’re really innocent,” he said, each word deliberate, “I’ll make things right. I swear.”

Once inside, she’d be lucky to survive long enough to ever see Julian’s idea of “justice“.

“Don’t bother,” she said, the smile still lingering on her lips.

To Julian, that smile felt like a slap. His breath grew uneven, shoulders tightening.

Lillian said, “Calling the authorities right now would also help you smooth things over with the Graves Pack. I get where you’re coming from.”

The moment she uttered “I get where you’re coming from“, her smile grew even wider, laced with cold amusement.

Julian’s chest clenched even tighter in response.

“Where do you think you’re going?” he demanded, fingers pressing harder into her wrist.

Somehow, saying it now felt easier–lighter, even.

After everything that had gone down today, cutting ties felt almost simple.

Before Julian could respond, she pulled her arm free and walked out the door without looking back.

Outside, Eleanor’s earlier tantrum was evident–Lillian’s belongings were still scattered across the driveway.

She barely glanced at the mess as she made her way to the sleek sedan where George waited, engine idling softly.

Julian’s voice followed her, sharp with warning. “If you leave now, I won’t be able to protect you. You will end up in jail.”

He was threatening her, plain and simple–implying that in this city, staying with him was the only way she’d stay safe. That no one else could shield her from what was coming.

Lillian paused, then turned just enough to look at him over her shoulder, a faint, cool smile on her face. “You give yourself too much credit.”

Maybe once, the Graves Pack could have destroyed her without a second thought.

Back then, if they’d wanted her locked up–or thrown into a psychiatric ward–she wouldn’t have been able to stop them.

That was why, even at her angriest, she’d never pushed too hard to sever the mate bond.

He stood there, watching the empty street long after she was gone.

His phone rang–Thomas. “Alpha, you need to get to the office. Now.”

The company was already knee–deep in crises, and with the ongoing drama around Iris and the missing pup, everything felt close to breaking.

For a second, the image of Lillian walking away–calm, resolute, utterly done–flashed in Julian’s mind.
