Chapter 190 The Agreement Reached
Third–Person POV:
It was true that Lillian had been making waves lately, and not small ones at that.
No matter how much drama she’d stirred up before, Julian had never once agreed to sever the mate bond. He’d even kept her locked down by his side all this time.
So when he suddenly let her return to Starfall Mountain, it could only mean one thing–he’d finally given up. A man like him didn’t change his mind easily. He hadn’t broken the bond even after the fire at Inkwood Gardens. So what changed now? Was it because of Iris‘ daughter dying?
“Iris‘ pup died,” Lillian said quietly, then glanced at Chloe. “And he… let me go, too.”
Chloe didn’t know how to respond.
Let her go.
It sounded so strange. Just because one of Iris‘ children died, Julian was giving up on Lillian. What kind of reasoning was that?
“So he really is blaming you for the pup’s death,” Chloe stated flatly.
“Trouble really does find you when you’re minding your own business,” Lillian replied with a tired shrug. “That saying couldn’t be more true.”
As for causing trouble–Lillian had never been subtle about it. But when it came to the pup, she genuinely hadn’t lifted a finger. Still, the Graves Pack pinned it on her anyway. Basically, whatever Iris claimed, they swallowed whole.
“That’s insane,” Chloe muttered. “How can they trust her that much?”
“Let them,” Lillian said, her tone layered with something unreadable. “I hope they trust her forever.”
Something in her voice made Chloe’s mind buzz. “The way you say that… It’s like you’re almost glad about it.”
It sounded as though if the Graves Pack kept believing Iris, something worse was bound to happen.
Lillian offered a faint smile but didn’t elaborate.
“You full?”
Chloe nodded. “Finally. I was seriously starving–almost passed out earlier. That plate of pasta helped a lot.”
“Honestly,” Lillian said, shifting the subject, “the only reason Julian let me leave Laurel Manor today was so that when the police come for me, he won’t be implicated.”
Chloe’s expression tightened again. “He reported you to the police? Over Iris‘ pup, too?”
“Eleanor and Hilda did,” Lillian corrected. “But he didn’t stop them.”
Chloe gritted her teeth. “So that’s why he suddenly changed his mind about keeping you confined. What a cowardly move for an Alpha.” She was utterly fed up. “What did you ever see in him?”

It was infuriating. She’d heard of mama’s boy Alphas before, but those were usually the weak, powerless ones. For someone of Julian’s standing to fall in line with his mother’s whims?
It felt like petty family drama from some low–rank pack, not something a leader of his status should entertain.
“He wasn’t like this before,” Lillian said softly.
“Yeah, he wasn’t,” Chloe agreed, feeling defeated.
Watching everything play out between Lillian and Julian had honestly shaken her faith in the whole mate–bond system. How could things turn like this? It was hard to believe.
Chloe had seen with her own eyes how well Julian used to treat Lillian. But over the past six months, ever since Iris–his late brother’s mate–came into the picture, things had spiraled.
Meanwhile, back at Graves Group, Eleanor had been waiting in the reception room for a full hour before she called Lillian again.
Lillian picked up on the second ring.
“What if we don’t agree to your terms?” Eleanor demanded, skipping any greeting.
“Then I sue,” Lillian replied evenly. “I’ve already retained a lawyer.”
Eleanor scoffed. “Who in Gilneas City would dare take your case?”
The Graves Pack’s influence here was undeniable–no local attorney would risk crossing them. Eleanor didn’t believe for a second that Lillian had real legal backing.
“International counsel,” Lillian answered coolly. “Far more credible than anything you’ll find locally.”
That only fueled Eleanor’s anger. International lawyers. In the past, she wouldn’t have believed it.
But now… now she did. Because Lillian had Finn backing her. That fool must have a screw loose, Eleanor thought bitterly, helping
her this much.
Just wait until the bond was officially severed. Once it was over, the Livingston Pack elders would have to step in. And once they did, Lillian’s comfortable days would be numbered.
