Finn drove Lillian back to Starfall Mountain himself. As she was stepping out of the car, his hand closed gently around her wrist. She turned to look at him, a question in her eyes. “What is it?”
“I’ll come by for dinner tomorrow,” Finn said, his voice low.
Lillian blinked. “What?”
“I’ll bring something good to eat.”
recovery
At the mention of good food, her expression brightened instantly. She’d been stuck in
mode lately, and Edmund had given the kitchen staff strict orders to keep her meals light and simple–everything bland, nothing too rich or exciting. The idea of a real treat made her lean in.
“Lunch or dinner?” she asked. Mornings were still a struggle for her.
“Lunch.”
“Okay. What are you bringing?”
“You’ll see tomorrow.”
Lillian nodded. “Alright.” A change in routine sounded perfect right now.
She was halfway out of the car when something occurred to her, and she glanced back at Finn. “You shouldn’t have held my hand at the auction today, you know.”
“Oh?” Finn’s eyebrow lifted slightly.
“People are definitely talking about us now. The gossip must be everywhere.”
She wasn’t blind to what Finn felt for her. But things were… complicated. Her situation was messy, and she knew it.
“Then break the bond with Julian,” Finn said, his tone straightforward.
Lillian sighed softly. She’d been trying to dissolve that bond for the last six months, and she was more determined than ever to see it through. Especially now, after what had happened with her mother–something the Graves Pack had a hand in. But hearing Finn say it so

bluntly…
She met his gaze and said, quietly, “You deserve someone better than me.”

She was already bonded. She came with baggage. She wasn’t what anyone would call a good match for someone like him.
The moment the words left her mouth, Finn’s eyes darkened. Something intense and unreadable flashed in their depths. Just as Lillian moved to step fully out of the car, his grip on her wrist tightened, not harshly, but enough to make her pause.
“That’s not on you,” Finn said, his voice firm. “Don’t talk yourself down like that.”
Lillian looked back at him, and for a second, her eyes stung. Not her fault? All those years in the Graves Pack, everyone had made her feel like everything was her fault. Like she couldn’t do anything right. And now here was Finn, telling her otherwise.
Finn’s gaze dropped to her wrist, where his fingers had left faint marks. He paused, then gently rubbed the spot with his thumb. His deep voice softened. “Life’s long, Lillian. You can’t spend all of it punishing yourself for one bad choice you made years ago.”
“Punishing myself?” Lillian started to protest. “I’m not ”
“Just thinking you’re not good enough is a form of punishment,” Finn cut in gently, before she could finish.
He’d seen it before–males who walked away from a broken bond and moved on without looking back. But females? They tended to chain themselves to the past, letting one old mistake dictate what they believed they deserved.
Lillian’s throat tightened. She didn’t know what to say.
Finn reached out and ruffled her hair lightly. “Go get some rest. Your brother’s already texted you twice wondering where you are.”
Lillian almost smiled. Edmund. But the feeling of having family who actually worried about her… it was still new, and it warmed something inside her that had long gone cold.
Julian had once told her that bonding with him would mean she had a home. In the end, that had been an empty promise. The Graves Pack had never felt like home,
From the day she’d stepped into their territory, just the thought of facing the elders or navigating their politics had made her want to hide.
Lillian finally stepped out of the car. Finn watched until she was safely inside before he said to

He pulled out his phone and sent a message to Edmund. “She’s doing okay. Got her home.”
Edmund had been deeply worried about his sister–so much so that he’d wanted to fly in from the Western Continent himself to watch over her recovery. It was only after Finn assured him that Lillian had settled back at Starfall Mountain for good that Edmund had reluctantly agreed to stay put.
